  • The purpose of this study was to review the current language level of children from multi-cultural background and whether the language level of these children would be increased after participating in the 'We Start Language Intervention Program'. The subjects were 30 36-75-month old children attending daycare centers in Ansan city, South Korea. The results showed that the receptive and expressive language levels of children from multi-cultural families were low compared to those of other children, and that their expressive language level was evaluated more negatively than their receptive language level. After participating in the 'We Start Language Intervention Program', language test scores, language age and language percentile rank were all increased. It was also found that the developmental language level of multi-cultural children increased, and that of the children that had a language delay or language disorder decreased.

  • Relationships between immigrant mothers' Korean language ability and preschoolers' language development in multi-cultural families were studied with 91 mothers and their children. Language capacity of mothers and children was measured by receptive and expressive vocabulary test, sentence comprehension test and two kinds of reading tests. Results showed that mothers' level of comprehension was relatively low but their reading ability was higher than that of elementary school first-grade Korean students. Comprehension of children in multi-cultural families with non-immigrant counterparts showed a lower level of language ability. Mother's level of expressive vocabulary, receptive vocabulary and reading ability correlated with children's language development. These results indicate a relationship between children's delayed language development in multi-cultural families and mother's low proficiency in Korean language.

  • There are many researches on visual languages, but the most of them are difficult to support various collaborative interactions on a distributed multimedia environment. So, this paper suggests a collaborative visual language for interaction between multi-users. The visual language can describe a conceptual model for collaborative interactions between multi-users. Using the visual language, generated visual sentences consist of object icons and interaction operators. An object icon represents a user who is responsible for a collaborative activity, has dynamic attributes of a user, and supports flexible interaction between multi-users. An interaction operator represents an interactive relation between multi-users and supports various collaborative interactions. Merits of the visual language are as follows: supporting of both asynchronous interaction and synchronous interaction, supporting flexible interaction between multi-users according to participation or leave of users, supporting a user oriented modeling, etc. For example, an application to a workflow system for document approval is illustrated. So we could be found that the visual language shows a collaborative interaction.

  • A Multi-Robot Control language (MRCL) is proposed to effectively control the multi-robot. MRCL has not only single-robot, command, but multi-robot command with multi-task OS, XINU. Concurrent motion, coordinate motion, and simple collision avoidance motion are implemented. This language is expected to act as a intelligent supporting tool for multi-robot system. To verify the effectiveness of the MRCL, a simple puzzle matching example is illustrated.

  • We propose a multi-stage recognizer architecture that reduces the computation load and makes fast recognizer. To improve performance of baseline multi-stage recognizer, we introduced new feature. We used confidence vector for each phone segment instead of best phoneme sequence. The multi-stage recognizer with new feature has better performance on n-best and has more robustness.

  • In this paper, we are designed a hierachical system controller and builed a robot system for high precision assembly consisting in multi-arms and multi-sensor. For the control of a multi-arms robot system, the robot system are consisted of cell controller, station controller and device. The Operating System of a cell controller is VxWorks for real-time multi-processing. Using by C-language, we are proposed a multi-arms robot control language based a RCCL, and this control language is partially implemented and tested in multi-robot control system.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that are associated with a child's development within a multi-cultural family, taking into account the factors that influence the child's language ability and their play interactions with their mothers. First, there was no significant difference in the children's language ability based on the child's gender, or based on the language in which the mother communicated with her children. However there were significant differences depending on the children's age, the mother's native country, and the period of time the mother had lived in Korea. Second, there was no significant difference in the child-mother play interaction based on the children's age, gender, the mother's native country, the period of time the mother has lived in Korea, or the language in which the mother communicated with her children. However, the boys showed a more hostile attitude toward their mothers, in comparison to the girls. In conclusion, it can be said that there is an urgent need for comprehensive social support services and policies for the overall development of multi-cultural children, especially through programs for children and mothers.

  • In this paper, we developed integrated billing system for multi-language. It is very easy to customize for other language and also It has functions in integrated billing system. Whenever administrator insert UI message data for other language, we can make billing packages for its own country to service integrated billing policy.

  • Joint attention, language development, and the relationship between these two variables were compared in infants from multi-cultural and Korean families. Joint attention was observed in both the Early Social Communication Scale (ESCS) and in infant-mother free play. Language development was evaluated by means of the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventory-Korean. There were no group differences in initiating and responding to joint attention in ESCS. However, in infant-mother free play, joint attention episodes were less and shorter in duration with infants from multi-cultural families than in Korean infants. The size of both the expressive and receptive vocabulary was also smaller in infants from multi-cultural families than in Korean infants. In terms of Korean infants, mean duration of joint attention episodes in free play showed a significant positive correlation with the size of the expressive vocabulary and initiating joint attention in ESCS also showed a significant positive correlation with the size of receptive vocabulary. However, none of the measures of joint attention indicated a significant relationship with the size of either expressive or receptive vocabulary in infants from multi-cultural families.

  • Recently, speech recognition technology has dramatically developed, with the increase in the user environment of various mobile devices and influence of a variety of speech recognition software. However, for speech recognition for multi-language, lack of understanding of multi-language lexical model and limited capacity of systems interfere with the improvement of the recognition rate. It is not easy to embody speech expressed with multi-language into a single acoustic model and systems using several acoustic models lower speech recognition rate. In this regard, it is necessary to research and develop a multi-language speech recognition system in order to embody speech comprised of various languages into a single acoustic model. This paper studied a system that can recognize Korean and English as International Phonetic Language (IPA), based on the research for using a multi-language acoustic model in mobile devices. Focusing on finding an IPA model which satisfies both Korean and English phonemes, we get 94.8% of the voice recognition rate in Korean and 95.36% in English.
