  • We have developed a Monte Carlo (MC) simulator for electron beam lithography in multi-layer resists and multi-layer substrates in order to fabricate and develop high-speed PHEMT devices for millimeter- wave applications. For the deposited energy calculation to multi-layer resists by electron beam in MC simulation, we modeled newly for multi-layer resists and heterogeneous multi-layer substrates. Using this model, we simulated T-gate or r-gate fabrication process in PHEMT device and showed our results with SEM observations.

  • A Ni/Ag/Stainless steel 310S(SS310S) multi-layer sheet has been fabricated by a combination of vacuum brazing, cold rolling and texture annealing processes. After heat-treating the thin Ni/Ag/SS310S multi-layer sheet at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2h, development of (100)<001>cube texture on Ni surface was revealed by (111) pole figure. Quantitative chemical analysis was made by EPMA for the cross-section of the Ni/Ag/SS310S multi-layer sheet. EPMA results showed that Ag diffusion into the Ni layer, which may suppress the cube texture development, was negligible. A small amount of Cr atoms were detected in the Ni layer. It showed that Ag can be used as a chemical barrier of alloying element atoms in Ni layer for the Ni/Ag/SS310S multi-layer sheet and a strong cube texture was developed for the Ni layer in the Ni/Ag/SS310S multi-layer sheet.

  • A multi-layer of the dye, natural colorant Berberine, was successfully developed by the self-assembly deposition from water-soluble cationic dye(Berberine chloride) and anionic polyelectrolyte PSS(Polysodium 4-styrenesulfonate) in aqueous solution via electrostatic attraction. The corresponding results on multi-layer were characterized by UV-Vis absorbance measurements. The growth of multi-layer formed by the sequential interaction was also determined. The findings measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometer showed that the bilayer deposition characteristic was linear and highly reproducible from layer to layer.

  • Although the development of transportation means has realized the right to mobility for the disabled who have difficulty in moving, it can be said that the improvement of the safety of passengers with disabilities that can occur in a car accident is lower than that of ordinary passenger seats. In particular, in the case of a rear-end collision that can occur suddenly, it is a reality that disabled passengers are vulnerable to head and neck injuries. Therefore, in this study, a multi-layer headrest foam that divides the headrest into three parts in the coronal plane was proposed to improve the head and neck injury index of disabled passengers in the vehicle in the event of a rear-end collision of a wheelchair transport vehicle. A range of stress scale factors was selected to give various compressive characteristics of the foam through low-speed rear-end collision analysis through a simple model, and GA optimization was performed by specifying the range as a parameter. Through the optimization result, the phase relationship between HIC and NIC was analyzed according to the compression characteristics of the layers. HIC responded most sensitively to the compression characteristics of the front layer and NIC responded to the compression characteristics of the mid layer, and the compression characteristics of the rear layer showed the lowest. A normal headrest and an optimized multi-layer headrest were placed in the validation model to analyze the low-speed rear-end collision sled test, and HIC and NIC were derived lower in the multi-layer headrest than in the general headrest. The compression behavior of the multi-layer headrest was also clearly shown, and it was verified that the multi-layer headrest was effective in improving the injury index of the head and neck compared to the general headrest.

  • Hull Mounted Sonar (HMS) is a long range submerged vehicle's hull-mounted passive sonar system which detects low-frequency noise caused by machineries of enemy ships or submerged vehicles. The HMS needs a sound absorption /insulation multi-layer structure to shut out the self-noise from own machineries and to amplify signals from outside. Therefore, acoustic analysis of the multi-layer system should be performed when the HMS is designed. This paper simplified the HMS multi-layer system to be an infinite planar multi-layer model. Also, main excitations that influence the HMS were classified into mechanical, plane wave and turbulent flow excitation, and the investigations for each excitation were performed for various models. Stiffened multi-layer analysis for mechanical excitation and general multi-layer analysis for turbulent flow excitation were developed. The infinite planar multi-layer analysis was expected to be more useful for preliminary design stage of HMS system than the infinite cylindrical model because of short analysis time and easiness of parameter study.

  • Multi layer bellows are being manufactured for commercial vehicle because of the characteristic of high durability compared with single iaγor bellows used to passenger vehicle. Finite Element Method (FEM) study and optimization about single layer bellows are actively progressed, but FEM study about multi layer bellows which have gap between layer is rarely processed. Therefore, this article presents finite element modeling of multi layer bellows for the improvement of simulation reliability. For the shape optimization of multi layer bellows, design of experiment and Taguchi method are used.

  • To declare conformance of multi-protocol Implementation Under Test(IUT), every layer of the multi-protocol IUT should be tested. According to ISO9646, single-layer test method is applied to testing the highest layer of multi-protocol IUT and single-layer embedded test method is used for the layers by layer all the protocols in a multi-protocol IUT. This paper proposes a new method for testing a multi-protocol IUT. The proposed test method assumes that a multi-protocol IUT is under test and that the interfaces between the layers cannot be controlled or observed by the tester. We apply the proposed test method to TCP/IP and compare the application results with those of the existing test turns out that the proposed test method significantly reduces the number of test cases as well as the number of test events while providing the same test coverage. In addition, the proposed test method shows the capability to locate the layer that is source of failure in testing multi-protocol IUTs.

  • Ti-Al-Si target and Cr-Si target are sputtered alternately to develop a multi-layered nitride coating on a steel mold to improve die-casting lifetime. Prior to the multi-layer deposition, a CrN layer is developed as a buffer layer on the mold to suppress the diffusion of reactive elements and enhance the cohesive strength of the multi-layer deposition. Approximately 50 nm CrSiN and TiAlSiN layers are deposited layer by layer, and form about three ㎛-thickness of multi-layered coating. From the observation of the uncoated and coated steel molds after the acceleration experiment of liquid metal injection casting, the uncoated mold is severely eroded by the adhesion of molten metallic glass. On the other hand, the multi-layer coating on the mold prevents element diffusion from the metallic glass and mold erosion during the experiment. The multi-layer structure of the coating transforms the nano-composite structured coating during the acceleration test. Since the nano-composite structure disrupts element diffusion to molten metallic glass, despite microstructure changes, the coating is not eroded by the 1,050 ℃ molten metallic glass.

  • The multi layer perceptron for segmenting objects in images only uses the input windows that are made from a image in a fixed size. These windows are recognized so each independent learning data that they make the performance of the multi layer perceptron poor. The poor performance is caused by not considering the position information and effect of input windows in input images. So we propose a new approach to add the position information and effect of input windows to the multi layer perceptron#s input layer. Our new approach improves the performance as well as the learning time in the multi layer perceptron. In our experiment, we can find our new algorithm good.

  • A novel multi-oxide layer structure for vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) structures is proposed to achieve higher single mode output power. The structure has four oxide layers with different aperture sizes and thicknesses. The oxide layer thicknesses are optimized simultaneously to reach the highest single mode output power. A heuristic method is proposed for plotting the influence of these variable changes on the operation of optical output power. A comprehensive optical-electrical thermal-gain self-consistent VCSEL model is used to simulate the continuous-wave operation of the multi-layer oxide VCSELs. A comparison between optimized VCSELs with different structures is presented. The results show that by using multi-oxide layers with different thicknesses, higher single-mode optical output power could be achieved in comparison with multi-oxide layer structures with the same thicknesses.
