  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to propose a multivariate CUSUM control chart that can detect the out-of-control state fast while monitoring the cross- and auto- correlated multivariate time series data. Methods: We first build models to estimate the observation data and calculate the corresponding residuals. After then, a multivariate CUSUM chart is applied to monitor the residuals instead of the original raw observation data. Vector Autoregression and Artificial Neural Net are selected for the modelling, and Separated-MCUSUM chart is selected for the monitoring. The suggested methods are tested under a number of experimental settings and the performances are compared with those of other existing methods. Results: We find that Artificial Neural Net is more appropriate than Vector Autoregression for the modelling and show the combination of Separated-MCUSUM with Artificial Neural Net outperforms the other alternatives considered in this paper. Conclusion: The suggested chart has many advantages. It can monitor the complicated multivariate data with cross- and auto- correlation, and detects the out-of-control state fast. Unlike other CUSUM charts finding their control limits by trial and error simulation, the suggested chart saves lots of time and effort by approximating its control limit mathematically. We expect that the suggested chart performs not only effectively but also efficiently for monitoring the process with complicated correlations and frequently-changed parameters.

  • With the development of computer storage and the rapidly growing ability to process large amounts of data, the multivariate control charts have received an increasing attention. The existing univariate and multivariate control charts are a single hypothesis testing approach to process mean or variance by using a single statistic plot. This paper proposes a multiple hypothesis approach to developing a new multivariate control scheme. Plotted Hotelling's $T^2$ statistics are used for computing the corresponding p-values and the procedure for controlling the false discovery rate in multiple hypothesis testing is applied to the proposed control scheme. Some numerical simulations were carried out to compare the performance of the proposed control scheme with the ordinary multivariate Shewhart chart in terms of the average run length. The results show that the proposed control scheme outperforms the existing multivariate Shewhart chart for all mean shifts.

  • Multivariate control charts for monitoring mean vector of several related quality variables with combine-accumulate approach and accumulate-combine apprach were investigated. Shewhart chart is also proposed to compare the performances of CUSUM and EWMA charts. Numerical comparisons show that CUSUM and EWMA charts are more efficient than Shewhart chart for small or moderate shifts, and multivariate charts based on accumulate- combine approach is more efficient than corresponding multivariate charts based on combine-accumulate approach.

  • We consider the problem of detecting special variations in multivariate $T^2$-control chart when two or more multivariate outliers are present. Since a multivariate outlier may reflect slippage in mean, variance, or correlation, it can distort the sample mean vector and sample covariance matrix. Damaged sample mean vector and sample covariance matrix have difficulty in examining special variations clearly, An alternative to detection outliers or special variations is to use robust estimators of mean vector and covariance matrix that are less sensitive to extreme observations than are the standard estimators $\bar{x}$ and $\textbf{S}$. We applied popular minimum volume ellipsoid(MVE) and minimum covariance determinant(MCD) method to estimate mean vector and covariance matrix and compared its results with standard $T^2$-control chart using simulated multivariate data with outliers. We found that the modified $T^2$-control chart based on the above robust methods were more effective in detecting special variations clearly than the standard $T^2$-control chart.

  • Multivariate control statistics to simultaneously monitor both means and variances for several quality variables under multivariate normal process are proposed. Performances of the proposed multivariate charts are evaluated in terms of average run length(ARL). Multivariate Shewhart chart is also proposed to compare the performances of multivariate exponentially weighted moving average(EWMA) charts. A numerical comparison shows that multivariate EWMA charts are more efficient than multivariate Shewhart chart for small and moderate shifts and multivariate EWMA scheme based on accumulate-combine approach is more efficient than corresponding multivariate EWMA chart based on combine-accumulate approach.

  • Purpose: A Control chart is one of the important statistical process control tools that can improve processes by reducing variability and defects. Methods: In the present study, we propose the local $T^2$ multivariate control chart that can efficiently detect abnormal observations by considering the local pattern of the in-control observations. Results: A simulation study has been conducted to examine the property of the proposed control chart and compare it with existing multivariate control charts. Conclusion: The results demonstrate the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed control chart.

  • Because of the equivalence between control chart procedures and hypothesis testing, we propose to use likelihood ratio test (LRT) statistic $Z_i^2$ as the multivariate control statistic for simultaneous monitoring means of the multivariate normal process. Properties and comparisons of the proposed control charts are explored and conducted for matched fixed sampling interval (FSI) and variable sampling interval (VSI) with two sampling interval charts. The result of numerical comparisons shows that EWMA chart with two sampling interval procedure is more efficient than the corresponding FSI chart for small or moderate changes. When large shift of the process has occurred, we also found that Shewhart chart is more efficient than EWMA chart.

  • Modern processes often monitor more than one quality characteristic that are referred to as multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) procedures. The MSPC is the most rapidly developing sector of statistical process control and increases interest in the simultaneous inspection of several related quality characteristics. Most multivariate detection procedures based on a multi-normality assumptions are independent, but there are many processes that assume non-normality and correlation. Many multivariate control charts have a lack of related joint distribution. Copulas are tool to construct multivariate modelling and formalizing the dependence structure between random variables and applied in several fields. From copula literature review, there are a few copula to apply in MSPC that have multivariate control charts, and represent a successful tool to identify an out-of-control process. This paper presents various types of copulas modelling for the multivariate control chart. The performance measures of the control chart are the average run length (ARL) and the average number of observations to signal (ANOS). Furthermore, a Monte Carlo simulation is shown when the observations were from an exponential distribution.

  • Social network services generate a considerable amount of social data every day on personal feelings or thoughts. This social data provides changing patterns of information production and consumption but are also a tool that reflects social phenomenon. We analyze negative emotional words from daily blogs to detect the change in blooger sentiment using multivariate control charts. We used the all the blogs produced between 1 January 2008 and 31 December 2009. Hotelling's T-square control chart control chart is commonly used to monitor multivariate quality characteristics; however, it assumes that quality characteristics follow multivariate normal distribution. The performance of a multivariate control chart is affected by this assumption; consequently, we introduce the support vector data description and its extension (K-control chart) suggested by Sun and Tsung (2003) and they are applied to detect the chage in blogger sentiment.
