  • In order to estimate an appropriate threshold and evaluate its performance for the data mixed with two different distributions, nine kinds of well-known classification accuracy measures such as MVD, Youden's index, the closest-to- (0,1) criterion, the amended closest-to- (0,1) criterion, SSS, symmetry point, accuracy area, TA, TR are clustered into five categories on the basis of their characters. In credit evaluation study, it is assumed that the score random variable follows normal mixture distributions of the default and non-default states. For various normal mixtures, optimal cut-off points for classification measures belong to each category are obtained and type I and II error rates corresponding to these cut-off points are calculated. Then we explore the cases when these error rates are minimized. If normal mixtures might be estimated for these kinds of real data, we could make use of results of this study to select the best classification accuracy measure which has the minimum error rate.

  • Active galactic nuclei (AGNs) typically show a non-thermal continuum locally represented by a power-law and many prominent emission lines in the UV and optical regions. AGNs are classified by two types, where Type I AGNs exhibit both broad and narrow lines and only narrow lines are observed in Type 2 AGNs. The unification models of AGNs invoke the existence of a molecular torus just outside of the broad line region. In the presence of a high column HI region associated with the molecular torus, we propose that significant fraction of broad line photons near Lyman series can be scattered by atomic hydrogen in the torus. In particular, $Ly{\alpha}$ being the strongest emission line, strong linear polarization may develop around $Ly{\alpha}$ through Rayleigh scattering. We adopt a Monte Carlo technique to investigate the polarized transfer of $Ly{\alpha}$ in a thick HI region with the shape of a torus. We consider the range of HI column density N_HI = 1020-23 with fixed geometric parameters of the torus such as the inner and outer radii and the height. We present the polarized spectra and angular distribution of Rayleigh scattered radiation around $Ly{\alpha}$. We find that the $Ly{\alpha}$ core part is polarized in the direction perpendicular to the symmetry axis whereas in the far wing part it is polarized in the parallel direction. It is concluded that the unification of AGNs implies that $Ly{\alpha}$ can be uniquely polarized through Rayleigh scattering.

  • Generally, the vibration characteristics of refractory ceramics are identified by assuming them as isotropic materials. However, in practice, refractory ceramics exhibit anisotropic properties as they are manufactured by pressing ceramic powders along a particular direction. Therefore, in this research, the frequency responses of a refractory ceramic brick along its width, length, and height directions were acquired using finite element analysis by assuming that the ceramics had tetragonal symmetry in their material properties. The validity of the numerical analysis results was verified by comparing them with those from experimental measurements. Based on the frequency response, the thicknesses of the refractory brick along three different directions were estimated using the impact-echo technique. The maximum difference between the estimated and actual thicknesses was observed to be less than 5 %. This result confirms the effectiveness of the impact-echo technique along with anisotropic property characterization to evaluate the thickness of the refractory ceramic.

  • The outcome of primary surgery for cleft lip is judged by its effects on the quality of oro-facial function and development. Many surgical techniques have been tried to obtain better results, however, Delaire introduced a technique of functional closure of the lip and nose, based on the findings of no true hypoplasia in the tissues either side of the cleft. In a seven-month-old Asian male patient with unilateral incomplete cleft lip, we carried out the primary closure by modified Delaire's technique. With no alveolar bone graft, the vertical incision on the nasal base was omitted in this patient because of his acceptable symmetry of nose. Also, a small Z plasty was added on the non-cleft side. The V-shaped incisions, whose notch was located on each side of the red vermilion, were designed and beveled incisions were performed for the rehabilitation of lip length and thickness, considering the postoperative wound contracture. We assured that this modification of Delaire's technique could be applied for various cases of primary closure of incomplete cleft lip.

  • $Eu^{3+}$-doped $MgMoO_4$ phosphor thin films were deposited on quartz substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering with changing various growth temperatures. The effects of growth temperature on the structure, transmittance, optical band gap, and luminescence of the phosphor thin films were characterized. All the phosphor thin films, irrespective of growth temperature, showed a monoclinic structure with a main (220) diffraction peak. The thin film deposited at a growth temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ indicated an average transmittance of 90% in the wavelength range of 500 ~ 1100 nm and band gap energy of 4.81 eV. The excitation spectra of the phosphor thin films consisted of a broad charge transfer band peaked at 284 nm in the range of 230 ~ 330 nm and two weak peaks located at 368 and 461 nm, respectively. The emission spectra under ultraviolet excitation at 284 nm exhibited a sharp emission peak at 614 nm and several weak bands. All the phosphor thin films showed high asymmetry ratio values, indicating that $Eu^{3+}$ ions incorporated into the host lattice occupied at the non-inversion symmetry sites. The results suggest that the growth temperature plays an important role in growing high-quality phosphor thin films.

  • Purpose: Most unilateral secondary cleft lip nose deformities have depressed nostril base and sill on the cleft side. To obtain a symmetric nose, correction of the recession on nostril is critical. The authors have worked out effective methods to elevate the nostril of the cleft side according to the extent of the depression. Methods: A total of 115 unilateral secondary cleft lip nose deformity patients with nostril depression were evaluated. Data were acquired from patients' charts and photography with special reference to the height difference of the nostrils between the cleft side and the non - cleft side. Patients were divided into three groups based on the difference and operated with various techniques : (1) mild degree(< 1 mm) with graft, (2) moderate degree(1 ~ 3 mm) with C - flap or suspension suture of septal cartilage (3) severe degree(> 3 mm) with graft, C - flap and suspension suture. Follow - up period averaged 21.3 months. Results: Forty - six patients(40 percent) were in mild group, and forty - two(37 percent) were in moderate. In twenty - seven patients(23 percent), nostril recession was more than 3 mm. The elevated nostril base and sill were maintained without height alteration during follow - up. Conclusion: The symmetry of the nostril base, especially projection of nostril sill influences successful correction of unilateral cleft lip nose deformity. Our tolerable techniques can be applied to most deformities with nostril depression and can present a new guideline.

  • The crystal structure of partially $Ag^+$-exchanged zeolite A, $Ag_{3.2}Na_{8.8}$-A, vacuum dehydrated at $360^{\circ}C$ and then exposed to 0.1 torr of cesium vapor for 12 hours at $250^{\circ}C$ has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Pm3m (a = 12.262(2)${\AA})\;at\;21(1)^{\circ}C$. The structure was refined to the final error indexes $R_1=0.068\;and\;R_2=0.072$ by using 338 reflections for which $I_o\;>\;3{\sigma}(I_o)$ and the composition of unit cell is $Ag_{3.2}Cs_{8.8}-A.\;3\;Cs^+$ ions lie on the centers of the 8-rings at sites of D4h symmetry. Two crystallographycally different 6-ring $Cs^+$ ions were found: 1.5 $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(2) are located inside of sodalite cavity and 4.3 $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(3) are located in the large cavity. The fractional occupancies observed at Cs(2) and Cs(3) indicate that the existence of at least three types of unit cells with regard to the 6-ring $Cs^+$ ions. For example, 50% of unit cells may have two $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(2) and 4 $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(3). 30% of unit cells may have one Cs+ ion at Cs(2) and 5 $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(3). The remaining 20% would have one $Cs^+$ ion at Cs(2) and 4 $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(3). On threefold axes of the unit cell two non-equivalent Ag atom positions are found in the large cavity, each containing 0.64 and 1.92 Ag atoms, respectively. A crystallographic analysis may be interpreted to indicate that 0.64 $(Ag_5)^+$ clusters are present in each large cavity. This cluster may be viewed as a tetrasilver molecule $(Ag_4)^0$(bond length, 2.84${\AA}$) stabilized by the coordination of one $Ag^+$ ion.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to compare the relative muscle activity on the erector spinae, gluteus maximus, and hamstring, using a non-visual feedback bridge exercise and a visual feedback bridge exercise with a tension sensor and clinometer. Methods: Twenty-two healthy subjects participated in this study. The study subjects performed bridge exercises without visual feedback, bridge exercises using a tension sensor, and bridge exercises using an inclinometer in the supine position, and the muscle activity of the left and right erector spinae, gluteus maximus, and hamstring muscles was measured while maintaining isometric contraction during the bridge movement. Muscle activity was measured by using surface an electromyography equipment. To standardize the measured action potential of each muscle, the maximum voluntary isometric contraction was measured. The bridge exercise was repeated 3 times for 5s each. Using repeated analysis of variance, we compared the significant difference in EMG activity for each muscle between the three experiments, and all statistical processing was performed using SPSS version 26. The statistical significance level was set at α = 0.05. Results: During bridging exercises, the asymmetry of the muscle activity of the erector spinae and gluteus maximus during visual feedback guiding was lower than that during no visual feedback. However, there was no significant difference. Moreover, the asymmetry of the muscle activity of the hamstring muscles was significantly lower during tension sensor visual feedback than that during no visual feedback (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that bridge exercise with visual feedback using a tension sensor and an inclinometer is effective in inducing symmetrical movement. When it is necessary to symmetrically adjust the weight load of both feet during the bridge exercise, it is effective to apply visual feedback using a tension sensor.

  • The paper reviews various classifications and surgical techniques for the treatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis. PubMed, EBSCO, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched using a combination of keywords. Articles related to classification, resection-reconstruction of the temporomandibular joint, and management of airway obstruction were considered and categorized based on the objectives. Seventy-nine articles were selected, which included randomized clinical trials, non-randomized controlled cohort studies, and case series. Though several classifications exist, most classifications are centered on the radiographic extent of the ankylotic mass and do not include the clinical and functional parameters. Hence there is a need for a comprehensive staging system that takes into consideration the age of the patient, severity of the disease, clinical, functional, and radiographic findings. Staging the disease will help the clinician to adopt a holistic approach in treating these patients. Interpositional arthroplasty (IA) results in better maximal incisal opening compared with gap arthroplasty, with no significant difference in recurrent rates. Distraction osteogenesis (DO) is emerging as a popular technique for the restoration of symmetry and function as well as for relieving airway obstruction. IA, with a costochondral graft, is recommended in growing patients and may be combined with or preceded by DO in cases of severe airway obstruction. Alloplastic total joint replacement combined with fat grafts and simultaneous osteotomy procedures are gaining popularity. A custom-made total joint prosthesis using CAD/CAM can efficiently overcome the shortcomings of stock prostheses.

  • This paper proposes a model that considers the parity-time symmetric structure as a state detection circuit for sensor applications using a stretchable inductor. In particular, to obtain a more practical computer simulation result, the stretchable inductor model was applied to this study model by referring to previously reported experimental results. The resistance component and phase component were controlled through the negative differential resistance circuit used in this study. In addition, the imbalance of the circuit caused by a change in the characteristics of the stretchable inductor could be compensated for using a negative differential resistance circuit. In particular, an analysis of the frequency characteristics of the sensor driving circuit of the parity-time symmetric structure proposed in this study confirmed that the Q-factor could be increased up to 20 times compared to the conventional resonant circuit.
