Literatural Study on Physiological Function of Nose (비(鼻)의 생리기능(生理機能)에 대한 연구(硏究))

  • The following results obtained through studies related on nose. 1. Nose is called mingtang(明堂) mianwang(面王), as it emphasize the meaning of viewing diagnosis(望診) and is called yuanpinzhimen(元牝之門), tianpinzhimen(天牝之門), qiqizhimen(七氣之門) as it emphasize the meaning of the entrance of atmosphere flow. Because it's position is the middle of face, we call tianzhongzhiyue(天中之嶽), zhongyue(中嶽). 2. As the organ of body, nose comes under the category of lung-iron(肺金), functionally comes under the category of heart-fire(心火). Functionally we can smell oder, organically nose is the pathway of respiration and to be resonator. 3. Wuzangliufu(五臟六腑) is arranged closely around the nose. The essence of wuzangliufu(五臟六腑) reflect nose, so nose becomes the standard of coloring diagnosis(色診). 4. We call nose is feihou(肺候), but it is not connected directly between the lung channel and nose. In case of lung symptom(肺證), first of all, nose become to appear the condition of lung, the lung channel and nose is close functionally. 5. The view of channels, nose is a connection with channels of yangming(陽明), bladder(膀胱), du(督脈) directly. By the connecting of each three channels, spleen stomach heart and kidney(脾胃心腎) are connected with indirectly. As the result of the relation, nose helps for body to breathe and to circulate qi(氣) and smell. And so the nature of wuzangliufu(五臟六腑) appear to the nose. 6. Particularly, the yangming channel(陽明經), and the bladder channel(膀胱經) are important. Because air-qi(天氣) reach to kidney lung through nose, ground-qi(地氣) reach to spleen stomach through mouth and yingwei(營衛) revolve through the bladder channel(膀胱經). As the result nose becomes the essential organ of circulation of yinewei(營衛), ascent and descent of qi(氣).

Implementation of Nose and Face Detections in Depth Image

  • In this paper, we propose a method which detects the nose and face of certain human by using the depth image. The proposed method has advantages of the low computational complexity and the high accuracy even in dark environment. Also, the detection accuracy of nose and face does not change in various postures. The proposed method first locates the locally protruding part from the depth image of the human body captured through the depth camera, and then confirms the nose through the depth characteristic of the nose and surrounding pixels. After finding the correct pixel of the nose, we determine the region of interest centered on the nose. In this case, the size of the region of interest is variable depending on the depth value of the nose. Then, face region can be found by performing binarization using the depth histogram in the region of interest. The proposed method can detect the nose and the face accurately regardless of the pose or the illumination of the captured area.

  • The behavior of nose-deck system during launch was examined by three dimensionless launching parameters, such as the relative flexural stiffness, the relative nose weight, and the relative nose length. The techniques of optimizing the launching nose were illustrated and equations of relationship between relative nose weight and relative nose length were derived under minimum conditions of the launching negative and positive moment. Equations of maximum positive and negative moment were suggested under the conditions. The optimum design method of the launching nose was proposed in launched continuous girder bridges. It was found that the ideal launching nose was to design that with the relative nose weight of 0.167 and the relative nose length of 0.836 to minimize absolute values of the positive and negative moment during launch.

  • The emphasis of this paper is to find out the changes in length of nose in line with speed improvement and changes of the tendency in the shape of the nose in line with time series based on the Shinkansen vehicle. The length of the nose on the lines of high speed tends to get longer, however there is no proportion between the speed and the nose according to optimal design that was designed to reduce micro-pressure wave and air resistance. The Shinkansen vehicles, according to the shape, can be classified in to an Advanced Paraboloid shape, a Sharp-nosed shape, a Flat-nosed shape and an Organic Double-edged shape and is gradually changing in the trend of diversity and distinction. Hereafter, the design of the nose will be developed better into the design that will comprehend identity of manufacturer, region and culture on the basis of optimized aerodynamic shape.

Numerical Study on Variation of Penetration Performance into Concrete by Penetrator Nose Shape (침투자의 노즈 형상에 따른 콘크리트 침투성능 변화에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • In order to destroy the hard target, it is essential to develop a penetration warhead with high penetration performance. To design a penetration warhead, this paper discusses the effect of nose shape factors such that nose shape, nose length, nose tip diameter, on the penetration performance of the penetrator. AUTODYN-2D has been used to conduct the computational analysis. The experimental result of Forrestal, and a simulation result have been compared to verify the reliability of computational analysis. Computational results show that the nose length have more influence on the penetration performance than the nose shape. Furthermore, simulation results show that the penetration performance can be improved by increasing the nose tip diameter to a specific value, when the nose length of the penetrator is uniform.

  • Deviated nose is highly challenging in rhinoplasty since the surgeon should consider both aesthetic and functional aspects of the nose. Deviated nose correction is surgically complex, and a thorough understanding of the mechanical and physiological changes of intranasal structures, including the septum and turbinates, is necessary for functional improvement.

Corrective Rhinoplasty with Combined Use of Autogenous Auricular Cartilage and Porcine Dermal Collagen in Cleft Lip Nose Deformity

  • Esthetic reconstruction of cleft lip nose deformity is a challenging task in surgical management of patients with orofacial cleft. The author reconstructed cleft lip nose deformity effectively using autogenous auricular cartilage and a relatively new graft material of porcine dermal collagen, $Permacol^{TM}$. After correction of the deformed lower third of the nose with patient's auricular cartilage, we applied $Permacol^{TM}$ to augment the entire nasal dorsum. Three patients were treated and followed for up to five years. All patients improved in nose aesthetics without any inflammatory or immunogenic reaction. The author suggests that the use of $Permacol^{TM}$ for nasal profile augmentation in the treatment of cleft lip nose deformity is an alternative surgical strategy with minimal surgical invasiveness. The author report long-term experience with combined use of auricular cartilage and $Permacol^{TM}$ in nasal reconstruction for cleft lip nose deformity.

  • We have designed a portable electronic nose(e-nose) system using an array of commercial gas sensors for recognition and analyzing the various odours. In this paper, we have implemented a portable e-nose system using an array gas sensors and personal digital assistants(PDA) for recognizing and analyzing volatile organic compounds(VOCs) in the field. Field screening for pollutants has been a target of instrumental development for number of year. A portable e-nose system can be substantial benefit to rapidly localize the spacial extent of a pollution or to find pollutants source. And, by using PDA, E-nose have a better function such as the easy user-interface and data transfer by internet from on- site to remote computer. We adapted the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm based on the back-propagation and proposed the method that could be predicted concentration levels of VOCs gases after classification by separating neural network into two parts.

Experimental study to assess the aerodynamic effects for conventional train passage on station platform (기존선 열차가 승강장을 통과할 때 발생하는 공기역학적인 문제들에 대한 기초실험 연구)

  • Measurements of wind flow and pressure fluctuations induced by train passing on station platform have been conducted. Test conventional trains have a different nose shapes - bluff nose and wedged nose. The bluff nose train influence peak value of pressure fluctuations on station platform three times more than the wedged nose train for train speed of 108 km/h. Also, air flow induced by the bluff nose train passing is three times more than the wedged nose train passing. Current study shows that the gust induced by the bluff nose conventional train may threaten a passenger's safety on station platform in proximity to train passage.

  • The purpose of this paper describes the changes of TGV & ICE series' nose shape by increasing train speed and according to the periodical characteristics. As the speed increases, the length of the nose shape trends to lengthen longer. But the nose shape length does not increase as speed improves by optimized nose shape to reduce aerodynamic drag and micro-pressure wave in tunnels. TGV & ICE series' nose shape can be classified into Advanced paraboloid type, Shape-nosed type, Organic double-edged type and Flat-nosed type by the advance research(the changes of Shinkansen vehicle' nose shape) of high speed railway. Because it trends to be diversified and characterized more and more. This paper analyzed and introduced as TGV & ICE series' nose shape by top 2 nation (Germany, France) and high speed railway in the past years(1980-2007) for their railway design trends by new positioning(Advance research).
