As the demand for large flexible displays such as tablet computers continues to rise, there is an increasing need for cost-efficient colorless and optically transparent polyimide film that can meet the desired performance, particularly optical transmittance. In this study, we investigated a detailed procedure for achieving optimal optical transmittance using two different combinations of monomers: 6FDA+BAPB and 6FDA+BPA+TFDB. We employed a design of experiment method to systematically synthesize polymers, allowing for the optimization of optical transmittance. In addition, we were able to achieve uniform thickness in the films by using a doctor blade. By comparing the price and optical transmittance of four different monomer combinations, we obtained fundamental data on the production of polyimide films that can be customized to meet the specific price and performance requirements of manufacturers. This approach enables users to select the most suitable polyimide film based on their desired price and performance parameters while achieving optimal optical transmittance.
Poly(ο-hydroxyamide)s as polybenzoxazoles precursors were synthesized by polycondensation from 2,2'-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane and various bis-acids. And the polymers were modified to acid-sensitive polyamides by introducing tetrahydropyran in order to impart photosensitivity. A study of optical transmittance at 365 nm, according to the chemical structure of bis-acid, revealed that the polymer derived from 4,4'-oxydibenzoic acid showed better optical transparency than those from other bis-acids. This tendency of optical transmittance could be explained by formation of charge transfer complex. In case of the polymer derived from 4,4'-oxydibenzoic acid, the electron accepting characteristic of bis-acid is reduced by introduction of electron donating group, -O-. Thus, optical transmittance increased due to the diminished formation of intramolecular charge transfer complex. In addition, the optical transmittance increased with increasing the THP content in the polymer. This is attributed to the reduced intermolecular interaction by the loosening of the packing density of the polymer chain.
To understand the cause of the high light transmittance of the human eye, the optical effects of the collagen fibers of the stroma layer, which constitute the majority of the cornea, were analyzed. These collagen fibers, approximately 20 nm in diameter, have a regular arrangement. Accordingly, the optical properties of the collagen fibers and the fiber layer were analyzed by simulation. A standing wave was formed in the incident space by the overlapping incident light and the light reflected by the plate. In addition, it was confirmed that when the collagen fibers are arranged in a layer, the light transmittance periodically changes, depending on the number of fiber layers. The standing wave was formed in the incident space, and the light's intensity distribution was changed by the nanoscale collagen fibers in the section with the collagen layer, which affected the transmittance. To explain this phenomenon, the collagen fiber was defined as a second light source, and an attempt was made to describe the simulation results in terms of overlap of the incident light with the light emitted from the collagen fiber.

Novel self-illuminated smart windows were fabricated consisting of Cu-doped ZnS (ZnS:Cu) powder and polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC). This smart window shows not only switchable transparency but also self-illumination without any attachable luminous body. Its electro-optical characteristics, transmittance, and luminance were investigated in relation to various applied voltages and composition ratios. The optical transmittance and luminous intensity increased with increasing applied voltages. However, the optical transmittance decreased with increasing ZnS:Cu powder content. One of the self-illuminated smart windows, which was fabricated with 9 wt% of ZnS:Cu, achieved the optical transmittance of 60.5% (at 550 nm) and the luminance of 11.0 cd/m2 at 100 V. This smart window could be used as a normal switchable smart window in daytime and light-emitting signage at night.
A significant enhancement of the magneto-optical Faraday rotation and extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) in the cascaded double-fishnet (CDF) structure with periodic rectangular apertures is theoretically predicted by using the extended finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The results demonstrate that the transmittance spectrum of the CDF structure has two EOT resonant peaks in a broad spectrum spanning visible to near-infrared wavebands, one of them coinciding with the enhanced Faraday rotation and large figure of merit (FOM) at the same wavelength. It is most important that the resonant position and intensity of the transmittance, Faraday rotation and FOM can be simply tailored by adjusting the incident wavelength, the thickness of the magnetic layer, and the offset between two metallic rectangular apertures, etc. Furthermore, the intrinsic physical mechanism of the resonance characteristics of the transmittance and Faraday rotation is thoroughly studied by investigating the electromagnetic field distributions at the location of resonance. It is shown that the transmittance resonance is mainly determined by different hybrid modes of surface plasmons (SPs) and plasmonic electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) behavior, and the enhancement of Faraday rotation is mostly governed by the plasmonic electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) behavior and the conversion of the transverse magnetic (TM) mode and transverse electric (TE) mode in the magnetic dielectric layer.
In this study the optical properties, such as relative transmittance and reflectance of PDP were analyzed with 3D optical code. Because of the electrode structure, the reference model shows 21.3 % higher transmittance than the test model and the reference model shows 16.6 % higher reflectance than the test model. The calculated reflectance of reference and test models is compared to the measured reflectance and the difference between calculation and measurement is 4.9 %.

The fiber optical temperature sensing device was developed by using a Fiber Bragg Grading (FBG) sensor and a linear transmittance optical filter. The temperature change causes change in the FBG sensor reflectance wavelength and the reflectance wavelength from FBG sensor is transmitted to a linear transmittance filter so that the optical signal value is determined by the wavelength. The temperature can be measured by the optical signal value by passing FBG reflectance wavelength to the linear transmittance filter. Using the developed system, temperature ranges from $10^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$ were measured and the measured data were almost linear.
This research is conducted to create a functional hydrogel ophthalmic lens containing nanoparticles. Carbon nanoparticles and PEGMEMA are used as additives for the basic combination of HEMA, MA, and MMA, and the materials are copolymerized with EGDMA as the cross-linking agent and AIBN as the thermal initiator. The hydrogel lens is produced using a cast-mold method, and the materials are thermally polymerized at $100^{\circ}C$ for an hour. The polymerized lens sample is hydrated in a 0.9 % saline solution for 24 hours before the optical and physical characteristics of the lens are measured. The refractive index, water content, contact angle, light transmittance, and tensile strength are measured to evaluate the physical and optical characteristics of the hydrogel lens. The refractive index, water content, contact angle, UV-B light transmittance, UV-A light transmittance, visible light transmittance, tensile strength and breaking strength of the hydrogel lens polymer are 1.4019~1.4281, 43.05~51.18 %, $31.95{\sim}68.61^{\circ}$, 21.69~58.11 %, 35.59~84.26 %, 45.85~88.06 %, 0.1075~0.1649 kgf and 0.1520~0.2250 kgf, respectively. The results demonstrate an increase in refractive index, tensile strength and breaking strength and a decrease in contact angle and light transmittance. Furthermore, the visible light transmissibility is significantly increased at PEG 10 %. It is clear that this material can be used for high-performance ophthalmic lenses with wettability, ultraviolet ray blocking effect, and tensile strength.
ZnO shows the properties of wide conductivity variation, high optical transmittance, and excellent piezoelectricity. Using these properties of ZnO, the material applications were extended to sensors, SAW filters, solar cells, and display devices. This paper investigated transmittance influencing factors for thin film ZnO grown by RF magnetron sputtering. The growth rate and structural investigation were carried out in conjunction with optical transmittance characteristics of thin film ZnO. The glass substrate temperature of $175^{\circ}C$ exhibited a preferential crystallization along (002) orientation. Transmittance of ZnO film deposited at the substrate temperature of $175^{\circ}C$ showed higher than 92%. An active sputter gas was investigated with a variation of $O_2$ partial pressure from 0 to 10% in an Ar atmosphere. ZnO film grown in 100% Ar gas shows that a reduced transmittance of 82% at the short wavelengths and decreased resistivity value. As the partial pressure of $O_2$ gas increased, the optical transmittance was increased above 90% at the short wavelengths, however, resistivity was drastically increased to higher than $10^4{\Omega}$-cm.

Ion implantation in polymeric materials can induce dramatic chemical modifications, such as bond breaking, cross linking, formation of new chemical products, which have strong influences on the macroscopic properties of the materials. In this study ion implantation was performed onto polymer, PC(polycarbonate), in order to investigate change of the optical transmittance property focusing ultraviolet ray range(200-400nm). PC was irradiated with N, Ar, Kr, Xe ions at the ion energy of 50keV and the dose range of 5 ${\times}$ 10$\^$15/, 1 ${\times}$ 10$\^$16/, 7${\times}$10$\^$16/ ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$. FT-IR, XPS, UV/Vis transmittance spectroscopy measurement technologies were employed to obtain chemical. structural properties and optical transmittance of irradiated polymer. The original PC(unimplanted) is quite transparent that it has more than 88% transmittance in the range UV-A(320∼400nm), but after ion implantation, surface colors were changed to the dark brown and the transmittance of UV ray decreased for all implantation condition, and the absorption edge was shift to visible range with increasing mass of implanted ion species and dose.
