  • New diffuser film for LCD backlight is developed. A diffuser film was manufactured through coating UV curable monomer on a plastic film. The diffuser layer coated on plastic film showed excellent optical transmittance.

  • One novel electrode-architecture has been adapted to fabricate transparent OTFTs. The device has more than 70% transmittance, yet reminds high performance. Furthermore, we also use transfer line method to prove that the device performance enhancement indeed contributes from the reduction of the contact resistances. It is anticipated that the transparent OTFTs would be very suitable to be the driving circuits for liquid crystal displays (LCDs).

  • Ca/Ag double layer which is fabricated by thermal evaporation exists as the double layer of (Ca+O)/(Ag+Ca). In Ca layer, are crystalline Ca(OH)2 and amorphous Ca and in Ag layer, are crystalline Ag and amorphous Ca. And for the certain thickness of Ag, in the Ca/Ag double layer, the thicker Ca is, the higher transmittance is.

  • In this work, indium tin oxide (ITO) thin film was fabricated by indium-tin-organic sol including ITO nanoparticle. ITO nanoparticle showed ultrafine size about 5 nm and (222) preferred crystal structure. Also, ITO sol-gel thin film showed good optical transmittance over 83% and electrical resistance less than $7\;{\times}\;10^3\;{\Omega}$.

  • Gd-doped ZnO thin films were prepared with different growth temperatures by using a radio-frequency magnetron sputtering method. The deposited samples were characterized by using the X-ray diffractometer, the scanning electron microscopy, and the photoluminescence spectroscopy. All of the films show an average transmittance of about 85% in the wavelength range from 400 to 1100 nm.

  • Three types of near infrared spectrometer, a photo diode array type, a dispersive type and a FT type, were evaluated and compared the systematic difference in blood glucose measurement. The fundamental study was performed by adding glucose to buffer solution and bovine blood as the preceding study of non-invasive blood glucose.   • Thin films of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT) with various thicknesses were fabricated, and their optical and electrical properties were investigated. The SWNTs of various thicknesses were directly coated in the arc-discharge chamber during the synthesis and then thermally and chemically purified. The crystalline quality of the SWNTs was improved by the purification processes as determined by Raman spectroscopy measurements. The resistance of the film is the lowest for the chemically purified SWNTs. The resistance vs. thickness measurements reveal the percolation thickness of the SWNT film to be $\sim$50 nm. Optical absorption coefficient due to Beer-Lambert is estimated to be $7.1{\times}10^{-2}nm^{-1}$. The film thickness for 80% transparency is about 32 nm, and the sheet resistance is 242$\Omega$/sq. The authors also confirmed the relation between electrical conductance and optical conductance with very good reliability by measuring the resistance and transparency measurements.

  • The state of aggregation and optical contrast of poly(vinyl chlorich, )(PVC)!nematic liquid crystal(LC) composite film liave been studied for a wide range(30~70 wt% LC)of film composition. In addition. effects of temperature, frequency and voltage of the applied AV electric field on the film transmittance have heen measured for a film containing (6O wt % I, C, which showed maximum optical contrast. For this particular composition of film, tlw thn'shold voltage was smalkr than .40$V_{p-p}$ at I kHZ, $25^{\circ}C$, and the rise time and decay time were smalle, r than l0Oms at 100$V_{p-p}$, I kHz, and $25^{\circ}C$.
