  • A novel reversible data hiding method using pixel value ordering and prediction error expansion in the sub-block is resented in this paper. For each non-overlapping $2{\times}2$ sub-block, we divide into two groups. In the min group, the lowest value is changed to embed a secret bit and the highest value is changed in the max group. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a good visual quality and high capacity. The proposed method can embed 13,900 bits on average, it is higher 4,553 bits than the previous method and the visual quality is maintained 31.39dB on average.

  • This paper proposes a fast and efficient Haar-like feature selection algorithm for training classifier used in object detection. Many features selected by Haar-like feature selection algorithm and existing AdaBoost algorithm are either similar in shape or overlapping due to considering only feature's error rate. The proposed algorithm calculates similarity of features by their shape and distance between features. Fast and efficient feature selection is made possible by removing selected features and features with high similarity from feature set. FERET face database is used to compare performance of classifiers trained by previous algorithm and proposed algorithm. Experimental results show improved performance comparing classifier trained by proposed method to classifier trained by previous method. When classifier is trained to show same performance, proposed method shows 20% reduction of features used in classification.

  • In recent years, the interests and needs of the Pedestrian Protection System (PPS), which is mounted on the vehicle for the purpose of traffic safety improvement is increasing. In this paper, we propose a pedestrian candidate window extraction and unit cell histogram based HOG descriptor calculation methods. At pedestrian detection candidate windows extraction stage, the bright ratio of pedestrian and its circumference region, vertical edge projection, edge factor, and PCA reconstruction image are used. Dalal's HOG requires pixel based histogram calculation by Gaussian weights and trilinear interpolation on overlapping blocks, But our method performs Gaussian down-weight and computes histogram on a per-cell basis, and then the histogram is combined with the adjacent cell, so our method can be calculated faster than Dalal's method. Our PCA reconstruction error based pedestrian detection candidate window extraction method efficiently classifies background based on the difference between pedestrian's head and shoulder area. The proposed method improves detection speed compared to the conventional HOG just using image without any prior information from camera calibration or depth map obtained from stereo cameras.

  • It was reported that the latest sensor technology allow an 65536 conductive polymer sensor array to be made with broad but overlapping selectivity to different families of chemicals emulating the characteristics found in biological olfaction. However, the supernumerary redundancy always accompanies great error and risk as well as an inordinate amount of computation time and local minima in signal processing, e.g. neural networks. In this paper, we propose a new method to reduce the number of sensor for analysis by reducing redundancy between sensors and by removing unstable sensors using the cosine similarity method and to decide on representative sensor using FCM(Fuzzy C-Means) algorithm. The representative sensors can be just used in analyzing. And, we introduce DWT(Discrete Wavelet Transform) for data compression in the time domain as preprocessing. Throughout experimental trials, we have done a comparative analysis between gas sensor data with and without reduced redundancy. The possibility and superiority of the proposed methods are confirmed through experiments.

  • The 8 rare earth elements were determined in the monazite concentrates by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. The spectral line overlapping interferences from the other elements were investigated and the correction methods of interferences were studied using line overlap coefficients. The coefficients were calculated from the ratios of the intensities measured at the diffracted angle (2${\theta}$) of the analytical lines of other elements to the intensity of pure rare earth oxide. The coefficients were used to correct the line overlaps by a regression analysis. The linearities of calibration curves from the corrected intensities were remarkably improved, and their standard deviations were decreased. The analytical results agreed with that of the inductively coupled plasma(ICP) spectrometry within an allowable error range.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop the design, pattern and size system of brief as a measurement garment in order to obtain more precise silhouettes and sizes of the body in 3D measurements. The results of this research are as follows: First, nylon/lycra materials which elasticity is equivalent to 18%(wale) and 27%(course), were selected as a material for briefs to minimize possible error in measurement and deformation of body shape caused by looseness or tightness in its measured parts. And T-back style design was selected, of which briefs neither deform human body nor cause overlapping or excessive tightness when was put on the measurement garment over it. Second, different darts for men and women were adopted into the pattern in consideration for the shape of hip. Third, the waist band of briefs was located between the waistline and abdominal girth line so that it didn't interfere with measurement, and using a wide band of 40mm minimized the tightness of the human body. In addition, the stitch lines and sewing procedure were simplified to minimize the deformation of body shape resulting from inseams and stitch lines. Finally, for the size of briefs, 6 cm intervals were set on the basis of the waist girth and 8 kinds for men and 6 kinds for women were selected in descending order of appearance rate by the interval sections. English T meaning T-back design and numbers representing the waist girth were marked in parallel for the name of size.

  • It is possible to count and perform quench correction on two ${\beta}$ -label samples so long as the maximum ${\beta}$-energies are sufficiently different. However, when 4he conventional technique is applied to the radioassay of a mixture of more than three nuclides, the reliability of the activities determined is considerably reduced, resulting from the large overlapping of liquid scintillation pulse height distributions of each nuclide. A technique that allows the activities of multiple ${\beta}$-labeled samples to be radioassayed was proposed by using the least square method. The technique was applied to mixture samples of $^3H,\;^{14}C,\;^{36}Cl$, and $^{90}Sr$. The analytical values were in good agreement with the reference values within 7% relative error.

  • Supplying high-resolution satellite image, we take much interest in the update and the revision of digital map and thematic map based on the satellite image. This study presented the possibility of the update and the revision to the existing digital map on a scale of l/5,000 and 1/25,000 to take advantage of the IKONOS satellite image. We performed geometric correction to make use of the ground control points of the existing digital map in IKONOS mono-image and created ortho-image by extracting digital elevation model from three dimensional contour data and altitude on the existing digital map. We revised changed features in the method of screen digitizing by overlapping orthorectified satellite image and existing digital map and flawed features of the unchanged area on the satellite images for positional accuracy analysis. As a result, rectification error is calculated at $\pm$3.35m by RMSE. There is a good possibility of update of digital map under the scale of 1/10,000. It is possible to the update of the large scale digital map over the scale of l/5,000, as if we used the method of stereo image and ground control point surveying.

  • Two-row overlap pile wall, currently under development for use in deep excavations, is a novel retaining structure designed to perform itself as a cutoff wall as well as a high-stiffness wall by constructing four overlapping piles arranged in zigzag manner at a time using a tetra-axis auger. This wall has a relatively complex cross-section, compared with other types of pile wall, which would make it difficult to determine design parameters related to cross-section. In this study, a flexural rigidity equation has been derived by analyzing both theoretically and statistically various wall cross-sections with different pile diameters and overlap lengths. The flexural rigidity equation was found to show the maximum error rate of 3%.

  • A field determination method for small D-T neutron source yield based on the oxygen prompt gamma rays was established. A neutron-gamma transport equation of the determination device was developed. Two yield field determination devices with a thickness of 20 mm and 50 mm were made. The count rates of the oxygen prompt gamma rays were calculated using three energy spectra processing approaches, which were the characteristic peak of 6.13 MeV, the overlapping peak of 6.92 MeV and 7.12 MeV, and the total energy area. The R-square of the calibration curve is better than 94% and the maximum error of the yield test is 5.21%, demonstrating that it is feasible to measure the yield of D-T neutron source by oxygen prompt gamma rays. Additionally, the results meet the requirements for field determination of the conventional D-T neutron source yield.
