  • Recently, the hydrological model Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) has been applied in many watersheds in South Korea. This study estimated parameters in SWAT for calibrating streamflow in long-term drought periods. Therefore, we focused on the continuous severe drought periods 2014~2015, and understand the model calibrated parameters. The SWAT was applied to a $366.5km^2$ Gongdo watershed by using 14 years (2002~2015) daily observed streamflow (Q) including two years extreme drought period of 2014~2015. The 9 parameters of CN2, CANMX, ESCO, SOL_K, SLSOIL, LAT_TIME, GW_DELAY, GWQMN, ALPHA_BF were selected for model calibration. The SWAT result by focusing on 5 normal years (2002~2006) calibration showed the 14 years average Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency (NSE) for Q and 1/Q with 0.78 and 0.58 respectively. On the other hand, the 14 years average NSEs of Q and 1/Q by focusing on 2 drought years (2014~2015) calibration were 0.86 and 0.76 respectively. Thus, we could infer that the SWAT calibration trial by focusing on drought periods data can be a good approach to calibrate both high flow and low flow by controlling the 9 drought affected parameters.

  • This paper introduces a constraint operator for the kinematic calibration of a parallel mechanism. By adopting the concept of a constraint operator, the movement between two poses is constrained. When the constrained movements are satisfied, the active joint displacements are taken and inputted into the kinematic model to compute the theoretical movements. A cost function is derived by the errors between the theoretical movement and the actual movement. The parameters that minimize the cost function are estimated and substituted into the kinematic model for a kinematic calibration. A single constraint plane is employed as a mechanical fixture to constrain the movement, and three digital indicators are used as the sensing devices to determine whether the constrained movement is satisfied. This calibration system represents an effective, low cost and feasible technique for a parallel mechanism. A calibration algorithm is developed with a constraint operator and implemented on a parallel manipulator constructed for a machining center tool.

  • In this paper, PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) sensor system that estimates position for moving objects in 2D plane is developed. PSD sensor is used to measure the position of an incidence light in real-time. To get the position of light source of moving target, a new parameter calibration algorithm and neural network technique are proposed and applied. Real-time position measurements of the mobile robot with light source is examined to validate the proposed method. It is shown that the proposed technique provides accurate position estimation of the moving object.

  • The main purpose of this study is to obtain linear models for the design of automatic flight controller in order to operate the Light Sport Aircraft as unmanned air vehicle. Flight test equipments installed on the aircraft to acquire flight test data are described and maneuvers for practical speed calibration are introduced. Parameters for the linear models of lateral and longitudinal motion are estimated by the Output error method as well as trim data analysis using the flight test data. Simulated data using the estimated parameters is shown to agree well with the measurement data. Estimated parameters obtained for several flight conditions can be used to improve the aerodynamic database of the simulation program.

  • Error correction effect for maladjusted stereo cameras with calibrated pixel distance parameter is presented. The camera calibration is a necessary procedure for stereo vision-based depth computation. Intra and extra parameters should be obtain to determine the relation between image and world coordination through experiment. One difficulty is in camera alignment for parallel installation: placing two CCD arrays in a plane. No effective methods for such alignment have been presented before. Some amount of depth error caused from such non-parallel installation of cameras is inevitable. If the pixel distance parameter which is one of intra parameter is calibrated with known points, such error can be compensated in some amount. Such error compensation effect with the calibrated pixel distance parameter is demonstrated with some experimental results.

  • Movement order program of robot operating program is generally made by teach-in method. Therefore in most cases it is sufficient as long as the robot system shows a reguired repeatability for the working conditions. But the trend in the robot application moves to the automatic generation of the working programs. A mathematical robot model similar to the reality is necessary for the analysis of the kinematic transformation of the robot system. The purposes of this paper are to make a better describing form and to suggest an automatic algorithm for kinematic parameter identification.

  • The process-based XBeach model has numerous empirical parameters because of insufficient understanding of hydrodynamics and sediment transport on the nearshore; hence, it is necessary to calibrate parameters to apply to various study areas and wave conditions. Therefore, the calibration process of parameters is essential for the improvement of model performance. Generally, the trial-and-error method is widely used; however, this method is passive and limited to various and comprehensive parameter ranges. In this study, the Generalized Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation (GLUE) method was used to estimate the optimal range of three parameters (gamma, facua, and gamma2) using morphological field data collected in Maengbang beach during the four typhoons that struck from September to October 2019. The model performance and optimal range of empirical parameters were evaluated using Brier Skill Score (BSS) along with the baseline profiles, sensitivity, and likelihood density analysis of BSS in the GLUE tools. Accordingly, the optimal parameter combinations were derived when facua was less than 0.15 and simulated well the shifting shape, from crescentic sand bar to alongshore uniform sand bars in the surf zone of Maengbang beach after storm impact. However, the erosion and accretion patterns nearby in the surf zone and shoreline remain challenges in the XBeach model.

  • Ta$_2$O$_5$, Nb$_2$O$_5$, SnO$_2$ and ZrO$_2$ in tin-slag samples were determined by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry using the dilution parameter method and the analytical results were compared with the data obtained by standard calibration curve method. Tin-slag samples and one standard sample having very similar composition to the tin-slags were diluted with a proper diluent (La$_2$O$_3$) to the ratio of 1: 1, 1 : 2, 1 : 3 and 1 : 4. After measuring the X-ray intensities of original and diluted samples, the values of dilution parameters were calculated by using the dilution parameter equation. Without any calibration curve, the analytical results were calculated from the equation including the dilution parameter term. The results were in good agreement with the reference data by the standard calibration curve method.
