  • Employment of the wave propagation approach with the combination of Pasternak foundation equation gives birth to the shell frequency equation. Mathematically, the integral form of the Lagrange energy functional is converted into a set of three partial differential equations. A cylindrical shell is placed on the elastic foundation of Pasternak. For isotropic materials, the physical properties are same everywhere, whereas the laminated and functionally graded materials, they vary from point to point. Here the shell material has been taken as functionally graded material. The influence of the elastic foundation, wave number, length and height-to-radius ratios is investigated with different boundary conditions. The frequencies of length-to-radius and height-to-radius ratio are counter part of each other. The frequency first increases and gain maximum value in the midway of the shell length and then lowers down for the variations of wave number. It is found that due to inducting the elastic foundation of Pasternak, the frequencies increases. It is also exhibited that the effect of frequencies is investigated by varying the surfaces with stainless steel and nickel as a constituent material. MATLAB software is utilized for the vibration of functionally graded cylindrical shell with elastic foundation of Pasternak and the results are verified with the open literature.

  • This paper has the object of investigating natural frequencies of thick plates on inhomogeneous Pasternak foundation by means of finite element method and providing kinematic design data lot mat of building structures. This analysis was applied for design of substructure on elastic foundation. Mat of building structure may be consisdered as a thick plate on elastic foundation. Recently, as size of building structure becomes larger, mat area of building structure also tend to become target and building structure is supported on inhomogeneous foundation. In this paper, vibration analysis or rectangular thick plate is done by use or serendipity finite element with 8 nodes by considering shearing strain of plate. The solutions of this paper are compared with existing solutions and finite element solutions with 4${\times}$4 meshes of this analysis are shown the error of maximum 0.083% about the existing solutions. It is shown that natrural frequencies depend on not only Winkler foundation parameter but also shear foundation parameter.

  • This article is the result of an investigation on the influence of a Pasternak elastic foundation on the stability of exponentially graded (EG) cylindrical shells under hydrostatic pressure, based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FOSDT) considering the shear stresses. The shear stresses shape function is distributed parabolic manner through the shell thickness. The governing equations of EG orthotropic cylindrical shells resting on the Pasternak elastic foundation on the basis of FOSDT are derived in the framework of Donnell-type shell theory. The novelty of present work is to achieve closed-form solutions for critical hydrostatic pressures of EG orthotropic cylindrical shells resting on Pasternak elastic foundation based on FOSDT. The expressions for critical hydrostatic pressures of EG orthotropic cylindrical shells with and without an elastic foundation based on CST are obtained, in special cases. Finally, the effects of Pasternak foundation, shear stresses, orthotropy and heterogeneity on critical hydrostatic pressures, based on FOSDT are investigated.

  • This research analyzes the dynamic stability of stiffened plates on elastic foundations using the finite element method. For analyzing the stiffened plates, both the Mindlin plate theory and Timoshenko beam-column theory were applied. In application of the finite element method, 8-nodes serendipity element system and 3-nodes finite element system were used for plate and beam elements, respectively Elastic foundations were modeled as the Pasternak foundations in which the continuity effect of foundation is considered. In order to verify the theory of this study, solutions obtained by this analysis were compared with the classical solutions in open literature and experimental solutions. The dynamic stability legions of stiffened plates on Pasternak foundations were determined according to changes of in-plane stresses, foundation parameters and dimensions of stiffener.

  • A study of the natural vibrations of beam resting on elastic foundation with finite number of transverse open cracks is presented. Frequency equations are derived for beams with different end restraints. Euler-Bernoulli beam on Pasternak foundation and Euler-Bernoulli beam on Pasternak foundation are investigated. The cracks are modeled by massless substitute spring. The effects of the crack location, size and its number and the foundation constants, on the natural frequencies of the beam, are investigated.

  • In this study, Pasternak foundation model, which is a two parameter foundation model, is used to analyze the behavior of laterally loaded beams embedded in semi-infinite media. Total potential energy variation of the system is written to formulate the problem that yielded the required field equations and the boundary conditions. Shear force discontinuities are exposed within the boundary conditions by variational method and are validated by photo elastic experiments. Exact solution of the deflection of the beam is obtained. Both foundation parameters are obtained by self calibration for this particular problem and loading type in this study. It is shown that, like the first parameter k, the second foundation parameter G also depends not only on the material type but also on the geometry and the loading type of the system. On the other hand, surface deflection of the semi infinite media under singular loading is obtained and another method is proposed to determine the foundation parameters using the solution of this problem.

  • The free vibration characteristics of cylindrical shells on inclined partial elastic foundations are investigated by an analytical method. The cylindrical shell is partially surrounded by the elastic foundations, these are represented by the Winkler or Pasternak model. The area of elastic foundation is not uniform and varies along the axial direction of the shell. The motion of shell is represented by first-order shear deformation theory(FSDT) to account for rotary inertia and transverse shear strains. The governing equation is obtained using the Rayleigh-Ritz method and a variation approach. To validate the present method, the numerical example is presented and compared with the present FEA results. The numerical results reveal that the elastic foundation has significant effect on vibration characteristics.

  • Bending, buckling and free vibration responses of functionally graded (FG) higher-order beams resting on two parameter (Winkler-Pasternak) elastic foundation are studied using a new inverse hyperbolic beam theory. The material properties of the beam are graded along the thickness direction according to the power-law distribution. In the present theory, the axial displacement accounts for an inverse hyperbolic distribution, and the transverse shear stress satisfies the traction-free boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the beams. Hamilton's principle is employed to derive the governing equations of motion. Navier type analytical solutions are obtained for the bending, bucking and vibration problems. Numerical results are obtained to investigate the effects of power-law index, length-to-thickness ratio and foundation parameter on the displacements, stresses, critical buckling loads and frequencies. Numerical results by using parabolic beam theory of Reddy and first-order beam theory of Timoshenko are specially generated for comparison of present results and found in excellent agreement with each other.

  • This paper is for the vibration analysis of thick plate with concentrated mass on a inhomogeneous pasternak foundation. the thick rectangular plate resting on a inhomogeneous pasternak foundation is isotropic, homogeneous and composite with linearly elastic material. In order to analyize plat which is supported on inhomogeneous pasternak foundation, the value of winkler foundation parameter(WFP) of centural and border zone of plate are chosen as Kw1 and Kw2 respectively. The value of Kw1 and Kw2 can be changed as 0, 10, $10^2,\;10^3$ and the value of SFP(shear foundation parameter) also be changed 0, 5, 10, 15 respectively. Finally, In this paper, vibration of retangular plate on the inhomogeneous pasternak foundation, natural frequency of this plate with Concentrated Mass are calculated

  • The current study presents a mathematical model and numerical method for free vibration of tapered piles embedded in two-parameter elastic foundations. The method of Discrete Singular Convolution (DSC) is used for numerical simulation. Bernoulli-Euler beam theory is considered. Various numerical applications demonstrate the validity and applicability of the proposed method for free vibration analysis. The results prove that the proposed method is quite easy to implement, accurate and highly efficient for free vibration analysis of tapered beam-columns embedded in Winkler- Pasternak elastic foundations.
