  • When we inject drugstuffs to a patient for a long time, it is important to control proper injection amount and flow rate. Since inproper injection amount and a flow rate would cause bad a recovery a patient, the relience of sensors which detect injection amount is an important factor for whole injection systems' performance. In this research, we've compared the suitability of three sensors for injection pump monitoring system. The three types of sensors, piezo film sensor, photo transistor made up with three transmitting photodiodes and receving photodiode, and photo array, were selected for comparing. Using suggested data processing technique and photo amy sensors, we could minimize the effect of interference, disturbance, illumanation change, and sensitivity change caused by sensor's position. According to the experiments, the photo amy showed the higher reliance than any other the three types of sensors. The developed systems could be the foundation of beginning home production of infusion pump system and available for the base model of whole monitoring and control systems.

  • A bottom-modified (4-position) naphthalimide derivative 1 with 1,8-naphthyridine as binding site has been designed and synthesized. Compound 1 is the first 1,8-naphthyridine-modified naphthalimide-based sensor that can detect $Hg^{2+}$ selectively with respect to ratiometric fluorescent change and blue shift in organic aqueous solution. The Job's plot and FAB mass indicate that 1 formed a 1:1 complex with $Hg^{2+}$. A top-modified naphthalimide derivative 2 with 1,8-naphthyridin as binding site has also been synthesized for comparison.

  • This paper presents the experimental study of the non-contact temperature measurement for the shadow mask of cathode ray tube using InSb sensor. At present, High resolution of CRT(Cathode Ray Tube) is needed broadly; therefore, the measurement of temperature distribution of shadow mask in CRT during operation is important to analyze the thermal deformation of shadow mask. Most of the studies could not measure the temperature distribution of shadow mask precisely. We studied the temperature dis- tribution of shadow mask using InSb photo sensor for 17" cathode ray tube (CRT). Experiments using ther- mocouple are performed to validate the results of non-contact measurement. The results agree well with those results of non-contact method using InSb sensor.nsor.

  • Applications of CdS films in this study are to exhibit a high conductivity when they are exposed at light with visible wavelength and sequentially to show a low conductivity in dark state. For this purpose, CdS films should have a high photosensitivity, still maintaining a high conductivity at a visible light. In this study, CdS films were prepared at room temperature on glass substrates by rf magnetron sputtering. In order to increase the photo-conductivity in visible light, various defect levels should be located within the CdS band gap. In order to nucleate the defect sites within the CdS band gap, CdS films were deposited on glass substrates at room temperature using various $H_2$/(Ar+$H_2$) flow ratios by an rf magnetron sputtering. Through the investigation of the structural and photoconductive properties of CdS films by an addition of hydrogen, the relationship between photo- and dark-resistance in CdS films was investigated in detail. 200-nm-thick CdS films for photoconductive sensor applications were prepared at various $H_2$/(Ar+$H_2$) flow ratios on glass substrates at room temperature by rf magnetron sputtering. Sulfur concentration in CdS films crystallized at room temperature with (002) preferred orientation depends directly on the hydrogen atmosphere and the surface roughness of the films gradually increases with increasing hydrogen atmosphere. Films deposited at 8% of $H_2$/(Ar+$H_2$) exhibit an abrupt decrease of dark- and photo-resistance, showing a low photo-sensitivity ($R_{dark}/R_{photo}$). Onthe other hand, films deposited at a hydrogen atmosphere of 42% exhibit a photo-sensitivity of $5\times10^3$, maintaining a photo-resistance of an approximately $2\times10^4\Omega$/square. The dark- and photo-resistance values of CdS films were related with a composition, surface roughness, and defect sites within the band gap.

  • This automotive headlight control system is newly proposed that, under my slope degree of the driving mad(flat up-hill, and down-hill) at night driving, the reflecting mirror of the headlight can be automatically controlled for safe driving. At first whether or not any vehicle is driven near is checked by photo sensor. Secondly, using the slope degree of the automotive feedbacked from the tilt sensor, the servo motor with the headlight is controlled to be turned right or down to the suitable angle. The servo motor is appropriately controlled according to road conditions. The proposed headlight control system is designed on the basis of the tested illumination intensity obtained according to any slope degree of roads. Finally, it is confirmed that the test model works very well in the given road conditions and environments.

  • The detector of the positron emission tomography (PET) is composed using a plurality of scintillation pixels and photo sensors. The use of multiple photo sensors increases cost and complicates signal processing. In this study, a detector with reduced cost and simple signal processing was designed using a small number of photo sensors. A scintillation pixel and a small number of photo sensors were used, and a optical guide was used to deliver light to all the photo sensors. A reflector is applied to the scintillation pixel and the optical guide to transmit the maximum amount of light to the photo sensor. A diffuse reflector and a specular reflector were used for the reflector, and a flood image was obtained by applying different thicknesses of the optical guide. An optimal combination was selected through comparative analysis of the acquired flood images. As a result, when specular reflectors were used for both the scintillation pixel and the optical guide, excellent flood images were obtained from optical guides of all thicknesses. For the optical guide, the optimal image was obtained when using a 3 mm thickness in consideration of the size of the image and the analysis of the point where the image of the scintillation pixel was formed.

  • In this paper, we investigated a novel UV sensor using evanescent field coupling between the side polished fiber and photo-functional polymer waveguide. It was found that resonant wavelength shifts occur due to variation in the refractive index of polymer planar waveguide for its photo-functional properties on exposed UV. Spiroxazine (photochromic dye) was used as the planar waveguide. The resonant wavelength responses were exhibited at 1.44 nm/mW, 1.64 nm/mW, and 1.78 nm/mW when UV irradiations were exposed for 20 seconds, 30 seconds, and 40 seconds, respectively. The recovery time of sensor was independent of UV exposure power and 90% recovery time was 100 seconds.

  • In this paper, we propose a general framework for sensor data fusion applied to control systems. Since many kinds of disturbances are introduced to a control system, it is necessary to rely on multisensor data fusion to improve control performance in spite of the disturbances. Multisensor data fusion for a control system is considered a sequence of making decisions for a combination of sensor data to make a proper control input in uncertain conditions of disturbance effects on sensors. The proposed method is applied to a typical control system of a flexible link system in which reduction of oscillation is obtained using a photo sensor at the tip of the link. But the control performance depends heavily on the environmental light conditions. To overcome the light disturbance difficulties, an accelerometer is used in addition to the existing photo sensor. Improvement of control performance is possible by utilizing multisensor data fusion for various output responses to show the feasibility of the proposed method in this paper.

  • It is important to measure the somatic informations for stockbreeding automatization. This study was carried out for the development of wireless measurement system of sphygmus in living animals. In meauring sphygmus counting with the single-channel telemety system, a LED-photo transistor sensor showed more sensitivity to the change of blood pressure than a piezo-electric sensor based pressure sensor. The LED-photo transistor sensor resulted ${\pm}1.29%$ of measurement error of sphygmus counting. In the process of transmitting and receiving the blood pressure signal for counting sphygmus, noises were mixed with, and the noises made the counting almost impossible. Auto-correlation analysis technique was applied to the signal data to extract the sphygmus information, and the technique was proved to be very effective.

  • This paper presents an automatic back-light brightness control system for mobile displays. One of the most important factors in mobile display is the power consumption due to the limited and movable power source. More than 80% of power of the LCD display is consumed by LED bark-light unit (BLU). The target brightness also becomes higher because of its moving picture and high resolution image, so there are some side effects for not only excessive power consumption but also ergonomic inconvenience in dark environment. To prevent this discomfort and reduce power consumption, this paper proposes automatic brightness control (ABC) technique in mobile displays. Developed system contains TFT-LCD panel with built-in photo sensor, driver IC capable of controlling photo sensor, and BLU. Since the photo sensor array built in panel detects automatically outdoor ambient light intensity, the power of BLU in dark environment is reduced. Developed ABC system showed reduced power consumption of 50% in dark environment. We believe that the proposed system is very useful to control power of mobile TFT-LCD.
