Recently, the applications of corrugated plates(or folded plates) are increasing due to economic and structural advantages in certain situations. And, because of the higher strength of corrugated plates than flat plates, the usage of the corrugated plates is increasing. So there are many necessities for specifications of corrugated plates. For flat plates, there are many design details in almost specifications. However, there are no detail design guides such as shear strength except the bending strength and the normal strength. So, it is difficult for engineers to design structures consist of corrugated plates. Therefore, a provision is necessary for engineers to refer for designing corrugated plates. The conclusion of this study shows a formula that helps to determine the shear strength of corrugated plates under various geometric conditions ; the size of corrugation ; the curvature of corrugation and ; the thickness of the corrugated plate. Also, it shows that corrugated plates have higher shear buckling strength than flat plates.
The mixed convection heat transfer has been studied numerically for misaligned and parrallel arrays of two flat plates at 100.leg.Re.leg.700, 0.1.leg.B.leg.1.0, 0.2.leg.leg.PHI.$_{R}$.leg.1Gr=10$^{4}$ and Pr=0.71. For misaligned plates and parallel plates, the optimum plate spacings move to the narrow spacing as Reynolds number and .PHI.$_{R}$ increase and can be expressed by the correlation equations at Gr=10$^{4}$. The optimum plate spacings for parallel plates sharply move to the narrow spacing compared with misaligned plates. The maximum mean Nusselt number of parallel plates shows higher value than that of misaligned plates and can be expressed by the correlation equations at Gr=10$^{4}$.EX>.

The postbuckling behaviour of thin plates is an important phenomenon in the design of thin plated structures. In reality plates possess small imperfections and the behaviour of such imperfect plates is of great interest. To numerically study the postbuckling behaviour of imperfect plates explicit incremental or secant matrices have been presented in this paper. These matrices can be used in combination with any thin plate element. The secant matrices are shown to be very accurate in tracing the postbuckling behaviour of thin plates.
In this study, it is presented analysis results of bending problems in the anisotropic cantilever thick plates and the anisotropic laminated cantilever thin plates bending problems. Finite element method in this analysis was used. Both Kirchoff's assumptions and Mindlin assumptions are used as the basic governing equations of bending problems in the anisotropic laminated plates. The analysis results are compared between the anisotropic laminated cantilever thick plates and the anisotropic laminated cantilever thin plates for the variations of thickness-width ratios.
An approximate method for analyzing the bending problems of irregular-shaped plates is proposed. In this paper irregular-shaped plates are such plates as plate with opening, circular plate, semi-circular plate, elliptic plate, triangular plate, skew plate, rhombic plate, trapezoidal plate or the other polygonal plates which are not uniform rectangular plates. It is shown that these irregular-shaped plates can be considered finally as a kind of rectangular plates with non-uniform thickness. An opening in a plate can be considered as an extremely thin part of the plate, and a non-rectangular plate can be translated into a circumscribed rectangular plate whose additional parts are extremely thin or thick according to the boundary conditions of the original plate. Therefore any irregular-shaped plate can be replaced by the equivalent rectangular plate with non-uniform thickness. For various types of irregular-shaped plates the convergency and accuracy of numerical solution by proposed method are investigated.
Background: Absorbable plates are widely used in open reduction and internal fixation surgeries for facial bone fractures. Absorbable plates are made of polyglycolic acid (PGA), polylactic acid (PLA), polydioxane (PDS), or various combinations of these polymers. The degradation patterns of absorbable plates made from different polymers and clinical courses of patients treated with such plates have not been fully identified. This study aimed to confirm the clinical courses of facial bone fracture patients using absorbable plates and compare the degradation patterns of the plates. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted for 47 cases in 46 patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation surgery using absorbable plates to repair facial bone fractures. All surgeries used either PLA/PGA composite-based or poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)/hydroxyapatite (HA) composite-based absorbable plates and screws. Clinical courses were confirmed and comparisons were conducted based on direct observation. Results: There were no naturally occurring foreign body reactions. Post-traumatic inflammatory responses occurred in eight patients (nine cases), in which six recovered naturally with conservative treatment. The absorbable plates were removed from two patients. PLA/PGA compositebased absorbable plates degraded into fragments with non-uniform, sharp surfaces whereas PLLA/HA composite-based absorbable plates degraded into a soft powder. Conclusion: PLA/PGA composite-based and PLLA/HA composite-based absorbable plates showed no naturally occurring foreign body reactions and showed different degradation patterns. The absorbable plate used for facial bone fracture surgery needs to be selected in consideration of its degradation patterns.
Although being one of the most popular strengthening techniques in reinforced concrete beams, the use of steel plates bonded to the soffit raises problems of ductility. This study aims at investigating the influence of the use of perforated steel plates instead of solid steel plates on the ductility of reinforced concrete beams. A total of nine reinforced concrete beams were tested. In addition to an unplated beam, eight beams with perforated steel plates of two different thicknesses (3 mm and 6 mm) were subjected to monotonic loading. Effect of bonding the plates to the beams with anchor bolts and with additional side plates bonded to the sides of the beam with and without anchors is also investigated. The use of bolts in addition to epoxy was found to greatly contribute to the ductility and energy absorption capacity of the beams, particularly in specimens with thick plates (6 mm) and the use side plates in addition to the bottom plate was found to be ineffective in increasing the ductility of a concrete beam unless the side plates are attached to the beam with anchors bolts. The thickness of the plate was found to have little effect on the bending rigidity of the beam.
