  • In order to discern and classify high-quality slides, our research proposes a classification method that utilizes a knowledge structure containing information on the presentation slides. After analyzing whether our knowledge structure captures the content's quality information, we developed a classification method based on the knowledge structure produced from the analysis results. With the proposed method, we compared results classified by quality of presentation slides. Through this comparison, we verified that the slides in the high quality group could be classified and were able to retrieve high quality slides. The results show that, by utilizing the cognitive model of a knowledge structure, our method can increase the effectiveness of classification when search or recommendation is conducted mainly with high-quality slides.

  • This paper discusses the design and implementation of a human-oriented interface based on computer vision that efficiently controls presentation slides. The user does not have to be confined to a keyboard or mouse any more, and can move around more freely because slides for presentation can be up and down using a general laser pointer that is used for presentation. Regions for virtual buttons are set on the slide so that the user can conveniently point the buttons using the laser pointer. We have proposed a simple and efficient method that computes the button areas in the image without complicated calibration. The proposed method has been implemented based on Microsoft PowerPoint ; moreover it can be applied to other PowerPoint-like presentation softwares. Our method for human-centered slide control enables the user to give audiences a more interactive presentation in a natural way.

  • In this paper, we describe an educational tool for presentation which shows teacher's whole handwriting process to learners named HPT(Handwriting Presentation Tool). We assume that presenting writing processes has rich educational information. We believe this information influences learners' understandings of the provided learning contents. Animation functions of popular presentation tools are not enough to represent this information. Our presentation tool enables the lessons with a new type of presentation slides which combine advantages of traditional blackboards and popular presentation tools.

  • Dr. Corley had various experiences as an outstanding structural engineer. His experience as the chief investigator for the collapse of World Trade Center and Oklahoma city building was so much useful to the lecture. His presentation had covered 3 different collapsed buildings like Oklahoma city, Pentagon and World Trade Center. He had shown to the audiences 2 videos and 76 slides by power point. The learned lessons from his presentation were: 1. The appropriate Building Code is very important. 2. The sound details are very important for the structure to resist the extreme outer force. 3. The continuous diagnosis and maintenance of the structure is important. 4. The reasonable attitude of the government against the accident is important. 5. The professional engineer must take a main role as a guard for the safety of the people.

  • The purpose of the study wast to determine the effect of slides exposure of different cultural architecture and interiors on students discriminating abilities of cultural differences among China, Japan, and Korea. Pre-test post-test experimental design was used. To measure students cultural discriminating abilities, a scale of 48 graphic items representing latticeworks of 3 countries was designed. For the treatment, 20 pictures showing representative architecture and interior spaces of each country thereby a total of 60 slides was selected. Subjects were 118 undergraduate students majoring in interior design. After measuring students' critical ability, the slide images were shown in country's order without explanation. After the exposure, post measures with the same instruments were done. To find the statistically significant difference, paired t-test was used. result indicated that the slide exposure have direct and positive influence on students cultural discriminating abilities. Therefore the model can be efficiently used in the educational setting to give student experience of cultural diversity.

  • This study was performed to compare manual liquid-based preparation with conventional Papanicolaou tests in view of the cytologic diagnoses and specimen adequacy. The specimens of 5,979 women from 33 local clinics and 1 general hospital were prepared by both manual liquid-based preparation and conventional Papanicolaou test. The cytologic diagnoses and specimen adequacy were evaluated in Department of Fathology in Kyoungpook National University School of Medicine. A conventional Papanicolaou test was always prepared first, after that residual material on the sampling device was rinsed into a liquid preservative, and then thin-layer slides were prepared using manual method of liquid-based cervicovaginal cytology. Conventional and liquid-based slides were read independently, and cytologic diagnoses and specimen adequacy were classified using the Bethesda System. Of the cases, 5,763 (96.3%,) had the same interpretation, and there was no significant diagnostic difference in 5,853 (97.8%) cases. When evaluating cases with more than one diagnostic class difference, the manual liquid-based preparation demonstrated a statistically significant overall improvement (2.1%) in the detection of squamous intraepithelial lesion and invasive cancer. Using manual method of liquid-based preparation, there was 14.1%, reduction in unsatisfactory slides through excellent cellular presentation. In conclusion, the manual liquid-based preparation produces standardized quality, superior sensitivity and improved adequacy as compared to the conventional method.

  • The discrete state theory on emotion postulated that there existed discrete emotions, such as happiness, anger, fear, disgust, and so forth. Many investigators who emphasized discreteness of emotions have suggested that discrete emotions entailed their specific activities in the autonomic nervous system. The purposes of this study were to develop a model of emotion-specific physiological response patterns. The study postulated six emotions (i.e., happiness, sadness, anger, disgust, fear, and surprise) as the basic discrete emotions. Thirty eight college students participated in the present study. Twelve slides (2 for each emotion category) were presented to the subjects in random order. During resting period of 30 s prior to the presentation of each slide, four presentation of each slide, four physiological measures (EEG, ECG, EDA, and respiration) were recorded to establish a baseline. The same physiological measures were recorded while each slide was being presented for 60 s (producing an emotional sate). Then, the subjects were asked to rate the degree of emotion induced by the slide on semantic differential scales. This procedure was repeated for every slide. Based upon the results, a model of emotion-specific physiological response patterns was developed: four emotion (fear, disgust, sadness, and anger) were classified according to the characteristics of EEG and autonomic responses. However, emotions of happiness and surprise were not distinguished by any combination of the physiological measures employed in this study, suggesting another appropriate measure should be adopted for differentiation.

  • Nowadays, power-point slides are the common form of presentation at meetings or lectures. However, when it comes to explanation and demonstration, it is difficult to do so effectively on a screen that is projected from a projector. This drawback might lower the level of quality of communication between the speaker and his audience. On top of this, the speaker is constrained to a certain amount of space. Based on this fact, in this work the constructed device can be used as an extension for the existing functions and makes up for the disadvantages of projected presentations by means of a web camera which enjoys ease of use and is economically priced. It would be also used as a virtual projection display for information of tourist cave in the field.
