Second, male and female students' prosocial behaviors showed positive correlations with grade, prosocial moral reasoning, empathy, self-esteem, parental and peer prosocial behaviors and support, teacher support and school life satisfaction. However, female students' prosocial behaviors had a negative correlation with parental marital conflict. Important variables predicting male students' prosocial behaviors were teacher support and prosocial moral reasoning. On the other hand, the important variable predicting female students' prosocial behaviors was self-esteem.

  • Children's sex, temperament, and empathy were studied as antecedents of preschoolers' prosocial development. Eighty eight 5-, and 6-year-old children, 41 boys and 47 girls, were sampled in two kindergartens. Children's naturally occurring prosocial behaviors were videotaped in their classrooms for 21 minutes in 3 days. Teachers rated the children's prosocial tendency using a questionnaire. Empathy was measured individually with a picture/story measure, and mothers provided information on children's temperament using a questionnaire. The two measures of preschoolers' prosocial behaviors, teacher ratings and free play observations, were moderately related. Girls were more prosocial in terms of helping/sharing/cooperation in both teacher-ratings and free-play observations. Preschoolers' adjustability was moderately related to the prosocial behaviors of children in both teacher-ratings and observations. Boys' verbal empathy was related to the observed prosocial behaviors.

The participants were 151 children(aged 5-6) and their mothers. The results were as follows: (1) Subordinate spheres of 'controlling' and 'playing' in mothers' child-rearing attitudes and children's prosocial behaviors showed significant positive correlations. (2) Children's self-regulation was positively related to their prosocial behaviors. (3) When children's self-regulation was controlled, mothers' child-rearing attitudes did not show any positive correlations with children's prosocial behavior. In conclusion, children's self-regulation mediated the association between mother's child-rearing attitudes and prosocial behaviors.

  • This study examines the relationships between elementary school students' multiple intelligences, prosocial behaviors, and school adjustments. The sample included 367 students from two elementary schools, and data were collected using the multiple-intelligence index, the prosocial behavior inventory, and the school adjustment index. A statistical analysis was conducted using t-test, a one-way ANOVA (Duncan's test), and a multiple regression analysis. According to the results, there were significant differences in the students' prosocial behaviors according to their multiple intelligences in terms of their sharing, kindness, cooperation, help, sympathy, and protection. In addition, there were significant differences in their school adjustments according to their multiple intelligence in terms of their adjustments to their teachers, friends, studies, and rules and events. The students' multiple intelligence was a significant predictors of their prosocial behaviors and school adjustments. In particular, their interpersonal intelligences, intrapersonal intelligences, and linguistic intelligences were significant predictors of their prosocial behaviors and school adjustments. These results suggest that elementary school students should be encouraged to develop their multiple intelligence to facilitate their prosocial behaviors and school adjustments.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between the employees' perception of organizational justice and their prosocial behaviors, focusing on the moderating effect of employees' individualism and collectivism. The survey has been conducted for 200 participants working in Korean companies. The results show that the perception of organizational justice is positively related with their prosocial behaviors. Also, employees' individualism and collectivism is significantly related with their prosocial behaviors. Specifically, individuals who are more collectivistic or less individualistic performed more prosocial behaviors than those who are less collectivistic or more individualistic. Finally, employees' individualism/collectivism has moderated the relationship between the perception of organizational justice and prosocial behaviors. When employees have strong sense of collectivism, they performed prosocial behaviors consistently regardless of the perception of organizational justice. That is, even though they perceive organizational justice as low, they perform prosocial behaviors in some degree. However, when employees have strong sense of individualism, their prosocial behaviors have been significantly determined by the perception of organizational justice. That is, when they perceive organizational justice as low, they rarely performed prosocial behaviors. But, as they perceive more organizational justice, their prosocial behaviors have been dramatically increased. The implication of those results and future research questions have been discussed.

The collected data were analyzed by SPSS12.0 program for frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan's test, multiple linear regression. The findings of this study are as follows :first, preschool children behaved prosocially more when their mothers or their fathers took warmth-acceptance of parenting behaviors. They showed lower prosocial behaviors when their fathers conducted more rejection-restriction or more permissiveness-nonintervention of parenting behaviors. Second, preschool children prosocially behaved more when their mothers and their fathers were more involved in parenting. Third, the most powerful predictor of prosocial behaviors was warmth-acceptance of parenting behaviors of their mothers.
