  • Laser chemical vapor deposition can be an effective technique for a rapid prototyping with ceramic materials, in particular. The objective of the study is to fabricate several 3-dimensional objects by stacking multi-layers as well as to find out some basic aspects of a rapid prototyping with laser chemical vapor deposition such as deposition characteristics with traversing speed of the laser, possible problems in stacking multi-layers etc. The limit speed of the laser that can grow a tilted SiC rod was found in this study, and laser directing writing that occurs over the limit speed was also investigated. Finally, a zigzag-shaped rod, a spiral-shaped rod, a wall and a square duct were successfully fabricated with laser chemical vapor deposition of tetramethylsilane

  • Rapid prototyping technology has been widely applied to the design process in the industry. This technology made it easy to generate a prototype which acts like a real product in logic. However, this technology has not been validated sufficiently as a usability test method. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis : There was no significant difference between a real product and its prototype. An experiment was designed to test it statistically. a microwave oven was selected and its prototype was generated using a rapid prototyping tool. Six subjects used the microwave oven and another six subjects used the prototype to perform five scenario tasks. As a result, there was significant difference between the real product and prototype in success rate, task completion time, and number of buttons pressed. The prototype was more difficult to operate than the real product. Therefore we should be careful when we apply rapid prototyping. technology. In the discussions, the causes of the difference were identified and some guidelines were suggested for who wants to apply rapid prototyping tool to the usability test.

  • The rapid prototyping process and development tool which enable the control law evaluation efficiently are needed to minimize the development cycle, cost and risk of aircraft flight control system. This paper describes a development process that integrates the designed control law into HETLAS to evaluate simulation effectively using nonlinear mathematical models. The desktop engineering simulator was developed using HETLAS for the piloted simulation evaluation of a various control modes and the procedure was developed, which quickly integrates the HETLAS into HQS(Handling Quality Simulator) and HILS(Hardware In the Loop Simulation) environments. This paper presents a rapid prototyping process using HETLAS that significantly shortens the integration process of the control law into the nonlinear math model, HETLAS, and allows the control law designs to be quickly tested in the piloted simulation and HILS environments.

  • Rapid prototyping is becoming an increasingly importnat techniuqe involved in the design cycles of modern industry. The majority of the rapid prototyping systems currently available use photo-reactive resins and waxes as the raw materials. The models produced by these systems often have relatively poor mechanical and physical properties and as such have a limited application to the production of advance prototypes but are excellently suited to the manufacture of engineering prototyes. This work identifies the need to produed near production grade advance prototypes from a variety of metals and a novel prototyping process based on the techniques of selective laser sintering and conventional machining is proposed. The integration of a carbon dioxide laser and a conventional machine tool to create the opto-mechanical by multi-layer sintering and some of the problems involved are also discussed.

  • Rapid prototyping becomes widely used in design and manufacturing of mechanical and aerospace engineering. Here a drag valve disk consisted of complicate configuration has designed by CAD, and prototyped by a stereolithography apparatus (SLA) to confirm the design configuration. Also the prototyped valve disk was used for checking if it could be applied for casting from the view point of accuracy, cost, and time. The rapid-prototyped disk by SLA was compared with a high-speed machined disk by MAKINO V55, and it is found that the prototyping of the disk by SLA appears more economical, more accurate and faster than by machining with MAKINO V55.

  • In this paper, we proposed a blind watermarking algorithm to apply to the rapid prototyping system. The 3D mesh model is used in the step of the CAD modeling before the making of the prototype system of the rapid prototyping system. STL type mesh modeling which is used in this system reduces the error of the system and improves the accuracy of the system. In the step of the CAD modeling, some transformations which do not change the model accuracy are used, but some transformations which change the model accuracy are not used because the mesh model error is related to the accuracy of the prototype system. Most watermarking algorithms embedded a specific random noise as the watermark information into the model. These kinds of the algorithms are not proper to the 3D model watermarking. The proposed algorithm can be used for the accurate prototyping system because it does not change the model after the watermark embedding This means it can be used for the copyright marking and the data integrity.

  • The potential for growth and the future impact of Rapid Prototyping that it will have on the product development cycle are enormous. Since making tools, precedes making parts, Rapid Tooling becomes widely used in automobile, aerospace, electronic, and other industries. In this study, master models formed by Rapid Prototyping of Stereolithography have been applied for vacuum casting to obtain silicone patterns which have transformed into epoxy models. The epoxy models have been measured to check dimension errors, and tested their functions. These checking and measurement have provided information on plastic injection possibilities and data for die design, Temporary die making with the materials of Aluminum/Epoxy and powder injection metal (PIM) has also been discussed in terms of hardness, surface roughness, and SEM microstructures.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to design Korean-themed online public education content in Korean medicine using rapid prototyping instructional systems design (RPISD). This study presents cases of developing and converting face-to-face general education programs designed to increase the interest in and understanding of Korean medicine for the public into online programs within a short timeframe. Methods: This qualitative study is design and development research, which used the RPISD model to analyze the available resources utilized in the rapid development of public educational content and propose systematization and optimization measures by analyzing the needs of clients, learners, and the environment. The <Treasured Mirror of Eastern Medicine(DUBG)Open Course> was developed according to the model procedure, which involved needs analysis, development of course materials and manuscript, and storyboard creation and its filming and editing. Usability tests were conducted at all stages, and the opinions of clients, instructors, experts, and instructional designers were accommodated and reflected at each stage. Results: Using the rapid prototyping model, <Treasured Mirror of Eastern Medicine(DUBG)Open Course> was organized into five classes of 20 minutes each. Each class was developed in Korean and included English, Chinese, and Japanese subtitles in addition to Korean under the cooperative instructional design among clients, subject-matter experts, instructional designer and learners. Conclusion: The cooperative instructional design of stakeholders is significant in developing Korean medicine public education content online through extensive interaction and feedback from stakeholders in the early stage of educational content development.
