In order to development medicinal Artemisia herbs of high quality, Korean A. annua L. were investigated with its ecological and morphological characteristics, and basic statistical data of agronomic characteristics. This species, which is annual herb, is mainly distributed to marginal land, riverside, roadside, grassland. Ecological niche is low species in competition of the others. Its pollination is basically anemogamous, but is frequency pollinated by insects. This species is characterized as tap root, 1~3 pinnate compound leaf of ovate or narrowly ovate, stem is green, erect and solitary. Inflorescence is paniculate, receptacle is not hair. Capitulum, consist of ray floret and disk floret, is subglobose shape. Additionally, this species could be easily discriminated from related Artemisia herbs by the capitulum size. Ray floret is female, disk floret is bisexual. Flowering season is from August to October. Seed is achene unattached hair. Stem length ranged from 179 cm to 225 cm, and stem diameter and number of branch were $17.14\;{\pm}\;1.68\;mm$, $2.43\;{\pm}\;0.51\;mm$, respectively. Length and width of leaf were $14.5\;{\pm}\;0.5\;cm$, $15.0\;{\pm}\;1.0\;cm$, and leaf number of main stem were $48.06\;{\pm}\;10.57\;cm$, respectively. Fresh weight of aerial parts and root were $364.7\;{\pm}\;14.1\;g$, $32.6\;{\pm}\;5.1\;g$, and its dry weight were $136.6\;{\pm}\;10.0\;g$, $14.9\;{\pm}\;2.34\;g$, respectively.

A new gerbera cultivar 'Noble Pink' was released by the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science (NIHHS) in 2009. A cross was made between 'Himalaya' with white and semi-double and 'Vital' with pastel cream and single in 2006. After investigation of the characteristics for four years (from 2006 to 2009), it was selected specially for the use of cut flower. 'Noble Pink' is a vigorous cultivar with pastel pink flower color (RHS R48B), brilliant green disc floret and semi-double. The average flower diameter is 11.8 cm, large flower. And inner ray floret and disc diameter are 4.77 cm and 2.17 cm, respectively. It produces a large yield with continuous supply of cut flowers and has adequate peduncle height. We believe that 'Noble Pink' has a great potential for expanding cultivated area of domestic gerbera cultivars and increasing farmers-income.

A new standard red color gerbera (Gerbera hybrida Hort.) 'Red Auction' was developed from a cross of '01-120-195' and 'Misty red' followed by seedling and line selections at the Flower Research Institute, Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services (ARES) in 2008. Characteristics trials were conducted three times from 2006 to 2008. 'Red Auction' has semi-double type in good harmony with red color (RHS 45-A) ray floret and a good stable flower shape and strong peduncle. Its vase life was 11.3 days. The average yield of 'Red Auction' was 48.8 flowers per plant a year in greenhouse yield trials carried out from 2006 to 2008. This cultivar registered for commercialization in 2010.

A new bi-color mini gerbera (Gerbera hybrida Hort.) 'Sun Cap' was developed from a cross of '99-ga-2' and '99-na-3-1' followed by seedling and line selections at the Flower Research Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services (ARES) in 2007. Characteristic tests were conducted three times from 2004 to 2007. 'Sun Cap' has single type in good harmony with bi-color (Red/Yellow, RHS 45-B/9-A) ray floret and green center. It has good stable flower shape and strong peduncle. Its vase life was 13.5 days. The average yield of 'Sun Cap' was 102.6 flowers per plant a year in greenhouse. Yield trials were carried out from 2004 to 2007. This cultivar was registered for commercialization in 2009. 'Sun Cap' would be cultured under greenhouse condition in Korea.

A cross was made between "Royal" with orange and single and 'Himalaya' with white and semi-double in 2004. After investigation of the characteristics for 4 years (from 2004 to 2007), it was selected specially for the use of cut-flower. "Pink Swan" is a vigorous medium-sized cultivar with pink (RHS R48D), yellow green center and semi-double. The average flower diameter is 10.6 cm. And inner ray floret and disc diameter is 5.99cm and 1.83cm, respectively. It produces a large yield with continuous supply of flowers and has adequate peduncle height. We believe that "Pink Swan" has a great potential for expanding cultivated area of domestic gerbera cultivar and increasing farmers-income.

'Yellow Wing' is a vigorous cultivar with yellow (RHS YO14B), green center and spider type. The flower diameter is 10.6cm. And inner ray floret and disc diameter is 2.83cm and 2.03cm, respectively. It produces a large yield with continuous supply of flowers and has adequate peduncle height and brilliant color. We believe that 'Yellow Wing' has a great potential for expanding cultivated area of domestic gerbera cultivar and increasing farmers-income.

Detailed characteristics of the new cultivar were evaluated from 2005 to 2007. 'Party Time' has semi-double type large flowers in a good harmony with pink (RHS, 65-C) ray floret and brown center. It has a good, stable flower shape and strong peduncles, and its vase life was 12.7 days. The average flower yield of 'Party Time' was about 47.3 stems per plant a year in greenhouse yield trails carried out 2005 to 2007. 'Party Time' (Grant No. 2691) was registered to the Korea Seed and Variety Service (KSVS) for commercialization in 2009.

It has good, stable flower shape and strong peduncles, and its vase life was 12.3 days. The average flower yield of "Golden Time" was about 49.5 stems per plant/year in greenhouse trails during 2004 and 2007. This cultivar was registered to the Korea Seed and Variety Service (KSVS) for commercialization in 2009. Year-round production of this cultivar is possible in the greenhouse condition throughout the Korean climate.

'Honey Cream' has semi-double type large flowers in good harmony with pale yellow(RHS, 11-D) ray floret and green center. It has good, stable flower shape and strong peduncle, and its vase life was 12.3 days. The average flower yield of 'Honey Cream' was about 48.5 stems per plant/year in greenhouse trails during 2003 and 2006. This cultivar was registered to the Korea Seed and Variety Service(KSVS) for commercialization in 2007. Year-round production of this cultivar is possible in the greenhouse condition in Korean climate.

A new orange mini gerbera (Gerbera hybrida Hort.) 'Yetty' was developed from a cross 'Haiti' and 'Nova Zembra' followed by seedling and line selections at the Flower Research Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services (ARES) from 2001 to 2006. Three times evaluations were conducted from 2004 for the detailed characteristics of the new cultivar, 'Yetty' has single type mini flower in good harmony with orange (RHS 25-A) ray floret and browen center. It has good stable flower shape and strong peduncle, and its vase life was 14.8 days. The average yield of 'Yerty' was 98.5 flowers per plant a year in greenhouse yield trials carried out from 2004 to 2006. This cultivar registered for commercialization in 2007. 'Yerty' would be cultured under greenhouse condition in Korea.
