  • In this paper, we propose a new fast carrier recovery algorithm for high-order QAM systems. The proposed algorithm detects carrier frequency offset from the phase differences among the received symbols directly and combines it with the conventional carrier recovery, so that it is possible to achieve the carrier recovery with wide tracking range and fast acquisition time. Simulation results show that the proposed carrier recovery method reduces acquisition time at large frequency offset and low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

  • We assessed whether the use of a symmetrical upper limb motion trainer in daily repetitive training for a 6-week period reduced spasticity and improved motor function in three chronic hemiparetic patients. Upper limb motor impairment and disability were measured by the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) and Manual Muscle Test (MMT), respectively. The electromyography (EMG) of the affected hand was recorded during isometric wrist flexion and extension. In all patients, FMA and MMT scores were significantly improved after the 6-week training. However, MAS scores of the affected wrist spasticity did not change considerably. Onset and Offset delays in muscle contraction significantly decreased in the affected wrist. The co-contraction ratio of flexor and extensor muscles significantly increased after the 6-week training. Onset and offset delays of the muscle contraction and co-contraction ratio correlated significantly with the patients' FMA. This study showed that repetitive, symmetric movement training can improve upper limb motor functions and abilities in chronic hemiparetic patients. Also, the EMG assessment of motor response is likely to provide insights into mechanisms and treatment strategies for motor recovery in chronic hemiparetic patients.

  • To analyse basic properties for making packing batt according to doubling condition, packing batt yarn, of $300^D$, $900^D$, $3600^D$ made from DTY yarn $150^D$/48 were produced from KTDI. The results are as follows: The birefringence of the sample yarn increased with increasing the annealing temperature and denier. The initial modulus of the sample yarn decreased with increasing the annealing temperature and denier. The higher than annealing temperature of $160^{\circ}C$, initial modulus of the sample are equilibrated. The strain recovery ratio of samples decreased with increasing the annealing temperature and denier. The lower than annealing temperature of $140^{\circ}C$, strain recovery ratio of the sample are decreased Where the $900^D$, $3600^D$ yarns are at $100^{\circ}C$ the specific bending rigidity value obtained is 0.65kgf/d but the twisted yarn (3,600) obtained 0.006 ($gfcm^2/tex^2$). However, where the heat temperature is $160^{\circ}C$, specific bending rigidity value obtained 0.003($gfcm^2/tex^2$).

  • Fuel cell systems are being supplied to households and buildings to reduce greenhouse gases. The fuel cell systems have problems of high cost and slow startup due to fuel processors. Greenhouse gas reduction of the fuel cell systems is also limited by using natural gas. The problems can be solved by using a hydrogen generator consisting of a reformer and pressure swing adsorption (PSA). However, part load operation of the hydrogen generator is required depending on the hydrogen consumption. In this paper, PSA operation strategies are investigated for part load of the hydrogen generator. Adsorption and purge time were changed in the range of part load ratio between from 0.5 to 1.0. As adsorption time increased, hydrogen recovery increased from 29.09% to 48.34% at 0.5 of part load ratio. Hydrogen recovery and hydrogen purity were also improved by increasing adsorption and purge time. However, hydrogen recovery dramatically decreased to 35.01% at 0.5 of part load ratio.

  • In this study the optimum conditions for recovery of valuable metal in Electric Arc Furnace Dusts were investigated. 2M of $H_2SO_4$, 1~5 of solid/liquid ratio, 0~180 min of leaching time has been established for leaching condition, and for electrowinning, each of Pt, C, Zn, Pb anode and Zn, Cu cathode was compared respectively at pH 2, 4 and 6. The result of elemental analysis of Zn crystal, a lagre quantity of Fe and H has been observed with Zn and other heavy metal, therefore, impurities removing process would be requir for enhancing purity of Zn. As the result, about 60% of Zn has been recovered under condition of 2 M of $H_2SO_4$, 1:2 of S/L ratio at 120 min, and Pt or Pb for anode, Zn for cathode has been shown the highest efficiency of electrowinning at pH 6.

  • Heat transfer characteristics of a heat exchanged for low temperature waste heat recovery using oscillating capillary tube heat pipe (OCHP) were evaluated against the charging ratio variation of working fluid and various working fluids. R-l42b, R-22 and R-290 were used as working a 2.6mm in outside diameter, 1.44mm in inside diameter with 101m length and 140 turns. Charging ratio of working fluid was 40% and 50%. water was used as secondary fluid. Inlet temperature and mass velocity for each secondary fluid were 297 K, 280 K and 9~27 $4kg/m^2s$, respectively. From experimental results, it was found that heat transfer performance of R-22 was higher than those of R-142b and R-290 and it was proportional to Figure of Merit for thermosyphon. As a result, it was thought that R-22 was the most reasonable working fluid of waste heat recovery for low temperature waste heat recovery.

R-l42b, R-22 and R-290 were used as working fluids. The heat exchanger was composed of heat pipe with capillary tube bundles, having a 2.6mm in outer diameter, 1.4mm in inner diameter with 101m long, and 40 turns. Charge ratio of working fluid was 40% and 50%. Water was used as secondary fluid. Inlet temperature and mass velocity for each secondary fluid were 297 K, 280 K and9~27 kg /$m^2s$,, respectively. • The performance of a carrier recovery is severely degraded because of amplitude fluctuations and random phases of the received signai caused by multipath fading in mobile radio channel. In this paper, we present two kinds of carrier recovery technique using pilot tone such as TCT(Tone Calibration Technique) and DTCT(Dual Tone Calibration Technique) and analyze these performance both in Rayleigh and Rician fadings. we also evaluate the BER performance of two carrier recovery systems in terms of design parameters such as pilot-to-singnal power ratio, and detection filter-to-pilot filter bandwidth ratio.
