Research records are essential records to explain the accountability of research throughout the life cycle of a research project. Thus, they need to be properly managed, preserved, and shared. This study analyzed the effectiveness and ability of applying DMP to research records management. This study also suggested the RRMP (Research Records Management Plan) for the research records management and preservation in scientific research institutes. RRMP is considered as up-front planning for the research records management and preservation before any records are created.

A research and management institution plays a middleman role between government departments and research institutes. Research records collected from research institutes are important not only as evidence for research tasks but also for knowledge and information sharing. In this study, the key research records collected by research management institutions are identified, and problems are analyzed to present efficient measures to improve key research management.

The study aims to investigate research trends in the UK records management field and compare the results with domestic research by analyzing research articles published in Archives and Records for the UK's research trends and The Korean Journal of Archival Studies (KJAS) for domestic ones. The study analyzed 318 articles published in KJAS and 142 articles published in Archives and Records since 2013, when the journal changed its title from Journal of the Society of Archivists, to investigate the distribution of authors, including the ratio of coauthorship and authors' affiliations. A set of 1,251 unique terms were extracted from KJAS, and 508 unique terms were extracted from Archives and Records for keyword co-occurrence network analyses. The result shows that the main research topics for KJAS include studies on (1) records management in general, such as archives, records, records management, and archival information service, (2) public records management, (3) personal or private records management, and (4) the techniques for records management, such as archival appraisal, selection, and disposition. In Archives and Records, (1) there are several case studies related to community and local archives, and (2) studies related to records management techniques, such as records description, appraisal, access, preservation, and service, have been performed continuously; furthermore, (3) studies on the digitization of oral history and audiovisual records are also one of the most researched areas.

To be able to present research authenticity, or to cope with patent related cases or any possible law suite for intellectual property, research records management is very important for evidence as well as for providing research information. But record keeping in engineering school laboratory is in an early stage, and lacks associated rules and best practices, which makes systematic research records management hard. This research investigated current practices of engineering school laboratories, analyzed related problems, and provides systematic methods for effective engineering research records management, such as modifying related regulations and process, systematizing the process of research records management, and educating researchers and building infrastructure.

This study, as the basic research for making research records management policies, aims to define research records and analyze the value and characteristics of research records from an archives and records management perspective. For these purposes, this study defines research records and their types by reviewing related studies. In addition, this study analyzed the following research records values: (1) evidence of research integrity and accountability with regard to research misconduct; (2) information for a succeeding study and an honorable failure; and (3) an asset for intellectual property rights and technology transfer. Finally, this study extracted the following characteristics of the research records: (1) each type of documents, data, and materials; (2) the archival bond between program and records; and (3) the continuity of production and use of the records. The findings from this analysis could be considered in revising related laws and policies.

The research and laboratory records management is the prerequisite for quality research. Quality research assurance system can work out on the sound basis of quality research records management. It is an important task that establishing a proper research and laboratory records system for obtaining quality of research according to the rapid growth of Research and Development area in Korea and the trend of electronic laboratory notebooks. The purpose of this study is to identify issues and find a direction for solutions related to the research and laboratory records management systems. For this after analysing previous studies and current status related to the research records management and GLP(Good Laboratory Practice) is benchmarked as a best practice for quality research, some suggestions for enhancement of research records management are given as a result.

This research presents research trends of records and archives management in korea and future development plan by analyzing the distribution of the thesis of the records and archives management journals in Korea according to subjects, issue periods, journals and researchers. The summary of the research is as follows. First, the core subjects of records and archives management research in Korea have been identified as law, establishment/policy, preservation and electronic records management, and it has been identified that the subject fields have come diverse thanks to the establishment of Public Records Management Act. Second, it has been proved that the productivity of research thesis of records and archives management in Korea increases as time goes by, and, especially, it improved by a big margin during 1997-2001. Third, the subjects of records and archives management are generally comprehensive, although there are differences in the subject fields among the thesis that have been researched.

Research records are a type of record with a range of controversies over the core elements of management, such as the definition and scope of research records, and who manages research records, despite the critical need for their management. Research records have been neglected in blind spots because it is difficult to manage them, but if well managed, they are evaluated as records with a highly potential value that can be used infinitely later. In particular, government-funded research institutes, as both research institutes and public institutions, take responsibility for systematic management of these research records. Therefore, as this study noted the necessity of research records appraisal for the systematic management of research records in government-funded research institutes, and conducted interviews with 11 records managers working at government-funded research institutes in Korea, the current status of research records management and appraisal of government-funded research institutes was identified. As a result, improvement measures for research records appraisal was suggested as follows. First of all, in the light of the current public records appraisal system, there is a problem of effectiveness in applying it to the research record appraisal system as it is. Therefore, this study suggested that an appraisal system appropriate for research records was needed, and proposed plans for improving the research records appraisal system in terms of purposes, authority, methods, time point, tools and criteria for appraisal.

In this study, twelve research papers on "records management and archives research areas" that were written from the 1980s to the 2000s were analyzed according to a timeline. The results show that the main subject areas during the 1980's were records and archives. During the 1990s, with the increase of electronic records, research areas expanded to information systems and related social environments. In the 2000s, more advanced technical and interdisciplinary subjects have emerged in the digital society. These results show that research areas in records management and archives still have much potential for growth and will expand in the near future.

The study aims at reviewing research trends of records classification and archival arrangement, analysing issues, and suggesting futures tasks in related research area. It starts with defining research categories of records and archives classification through analysing the term of 'classification' being found in the Public Records Management Act. Thirty five research papers which are covering classification of records and archives and published in 1980's are selected for contents analysis. Considering the analysis of domestic and foreign research, and the practical needs, it makes clear the issues and tasks for future research. The study concludes with emphasizing more empirical research for guiding records and archives management and reformulating archival theories in electronic environments.
