This study was carried out by examining prior studies on the concepts of boundary and analysing the planes of residential apartments as a typical modern residential space, based on the comparison of traditional and modern residential spaces. It was shown, then, that the awareness of boundary in the modern residential space appeared to be structured in the residential apartment space according to the change in the social position and role of family members, unlike the spatial division of the traditional residential spaces based on the social class and sex.

  • In order to address housing issues, alleviate the concentration of urban populations, and resolve other issues regarding residential spaces, large residential complexes have been developed in Korea since the 1970s. The changes to the residential culture due to such development projects propagated rapidly, making the apartment complexes the most representative form of housing in Korea. In developing such large-scale complexes, plans for public open spaces, which play an important role in formulating the quality of residential environment, have been mostly the same, only utilizing the spaces remaining after planning other types of spaces. The current study looks at the case of Tama New Town development project, a Japanese new town development project that has a similar public open space system in large scale residential complex development projects in Korea. In doing so, the current study aims to identify the features of public open space plans. In the conclusion, the study first finds that various public open spaces must be reviewed and introduced in term of predicting social demands. Second, the study suggests the policy-makers should actively introduce pedestrian paths as a public open space. Third, the study deduces the planning implications of applying the principle of original landscape preservation.

Seoul citizens preferred gardens or parks in the complex or neighboring forests whereas local citizens preferred shared offices and medical centers. Households of three or more persons preferred a park/forest and two-person households preferred a honbap restaurant. • There is an agreement that sociocultural forces affect on the types of arts. There have been a little attempts to draw analogy between architecture and music. There are many objective and subjective factors for this to be true. If, however, the two arts are out of much the same social conditions, they show a degree of conformity in design and general organization. Our study shows the interrelationship between the Residential Space and structure of music. In order to clarify the interrelationship between architecture and music, the study examines ten Residential Spaces suggested by Yi-Jinkyung. The Residential Spaces are analyzed by using theory of Space Syntax. The structure of music is analyzed by tonality, counterpoint and harmony. The comparison between the Residential Spaces and music follows : From Renaissance to the 19th century, they have the same tendency to 1) openness & closure to the outer space and 2) the netting diagram in the inner space & Counterpoint 3) the tree diagram in the space & Harmony
