Vertical earthquake motions can occur along with horizontal earthquakes, so that Structure should be designed to resist Seismic loads in all directions. Especially, due to the dynamic characteristics such as the vibration mode, when the vertical seismic load, the dynamic response of the Spatial structure is large. In this study, the seismic response of the lattice dome to horizontal and vertical seismic loads is analyzed, and a reasonable seismic load combination is analyzed by combining horizontal and vertical seismic response results. In the combination of the horizontal seismic load, the largest result is obtained when the direction of the main axis of the structure coincides with the direction of seismic load. In addition, the combination of vertical seismic load and horizontal seismic load was the largest compared with the combination of horizontal seismic load. Therefore, it is considered that the most reasonable and stable design will be achieved if the seismic load in vertical direction is considered.

A multi-span bridge model that is fixed in longitudinal direction at a single pier can be very vulnerable to the earthquake ground motion in longitudinal direction. If the seismic load exceeds the capacity of the pier, it can be severely damaged. However, such incident can be prevented if piers of movable support share the seismic load as setting up seismic load transmitting device. This study is performed to investigate seismic performance of continuous bridge model with seismic load transmitting devices which is proposed newly. It is found that continuous bridge model system with device is more effective about displacement control and seismic performance.
In the present study, exterior beam column sub-assemblages are designed in accordance with the codal stipulations prevailed at different times prior to the introduction of modern seismic provisions, viz., i) Gravity load designed with straight bar anchorage (SP1), ii) Gravity load designed with compression anchorage (SP1-D), iii) designed for seismic load but not detailed for ductility (SP2), and iv) designed for seismic load and detailed for ductility (SP3). Comparative seismic performance of these exterior beam-column sub-assemblages are evaluated through experimental investigations carried out under repeated reverse cyclic loading. Seismic performance parameters like load-displacement hysteresis behavior, energy dissipation, strength and stiffness degradation, and joint shear deformation of the specimens are evaluated. It is found from the experimental studies that with the evolution of the design methods, from gravity load designed to non-ductile and then to ductile detailed specimens, a marked improvement in damage resilience is observed. The gravity load designed specimens SP1 and SP1-D respectively dissipated only one-tenth and one-sixth of the energy dissipated by SP3. The specimen SP3 showcased tremendous improvement in the energy dissipation capacity of nearly 2.56 times that of SP2. Irrespective of the level of design and detailing, energy dissipation is finally manifested through the damage in the joint region. The present study underlines the seismic deficiency of beam-column sub-assemblages of different design evolutions and highlights the need for their strengthening/retrofit to make them fit for seismic event.

The seismic behaviors of the arch structure vary according to the rise-span ratio of the arch structure. In this study, the rise-span ratio (H/L) of the example arch structure was set to 1/4, 1/6, and 1/8. And the installation angle of the seismic isolator was set to 15°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90°. The installation angles of the seismic isolator were set by analyzing the horizontal and vertical reaction forces according to the rise-span ratio of the arch structure. Due to the geometrical and dynamic characteristics of the arch structure, the lower the rise-span ratio, the greater the horizontal reaction force of the static load, but the smaller the horizontal reaction force of the dynamic load. And if the seismic isolator is installed in the direction of the resultant force of the reaction forces caused by the seismic load, the horizontal seismic response becomes small. Also, as the installation angle of the seismic isolator increases, the hysteresis behavior of the seismic isolator shows a plastic behavior, and residual deformation appears even after the seismic load is removed. In the design of seismic isolators for seismic response control of large space structures such as arch structures, horizontal and vertical reaction forces should be considered.
In this study, earthquake loads are investigated statistically and compared with the nominal earthquake loads calculated according to the Turkish Earthquake Code, namely: "Specifications for Structures to be Built in Earthquake Areas". For this purpose, the "actual" mean load values estimated from statistical methods and the nominal load values computed according the Seismic Code are compared, with respect to some variations in the basic parameters, such as the importance factor, building height, site coefficient, seismic zone and seismic load reduction factor. In addition to the data compiled from different regions of Turkey, the published data and information in the foreign literature are also used in the determination of the earthquake load statistics. Although the dead and live loads acting on a structure are independent of the geographical location of the structure, environmental loads, such as earthquake loads are highly dependent on the location of the structure. Accordingly, for the assessment of statistical parameters associated with earthquake loads, twelve different locations which can represent the different seismic zones of Turkey as accurately as possible are chosen. As a result of the code calibration procedure considered in this study, it is observed that the load values obtained from the Turkish Seismic Code may overestimate or underestimate the actual seismic loads in some of the seismic zones.

In this paper, the seismic analysis model for seismically isolated KALIMER reactor structures is developed and the modal analysis and the seismic time history analysis are carried out for seismic isolation and non-isolation cases. To check the seismic stress limit according to the ASME Code, the equivalent seismic stress analyses are preformed using the 3-D finite element model. From the seismic stress analysis, the seismic margins are calculated for structural members. The limit of seismic load is defined to show that the maximum input acceleration ensures the structural safety for seismic load. In comparison of seismic responses between seismic isolation and non-isolation cases, the seismic isolation design gives significantly reduced acceleration responses and relative displacements between structures. The seismic margin of KALIMER reactor structure is high enough to produce the limit seismic load 0.8g.
The effect of a partially earth anchored cable system on the structural safety of a long span cable-stayed bridge under seismic and wind loads are examined during construction process. By assuming the FCM (free cantilever method) construction stages with structural vulnerability, a multi-mode spectral analysis and a multi-mode buffeting analysis are performed for specific seismic load and wind load, respectively. Results show that the wind load dominates the structural safety of a cable-stayed bridge during construction. And, the application of a partially earth anchored cable system can enhance structural safety under wind load since the maximum pylon moment in the model with partially earth anchored cable system is reduced by 49% under wind load. In contrast, the maximum pylon moment occurred by seismic load is only decreased by 8%.

In 2000, Standard Design Loads for Building was changed especially in seismic load. According to the change, seismic-resisting capacity of deteriorated apartment houses has to be reestimated. This research is to propose seismic-strengthening and improving methods of structural efficiency of RC deteriorated apartment houses. The analysis models were shear-wall system(36/58/79$m^{2}$) and beam-column system(11/19/25py) which were constructed in early 1980 and didn't consider seismic load. The definite methods are addition of shear walls and lightening of load. The story-drifts of shear wall systems exceed allowable story-drifts so that two methods was applied. The story-drifts of beam-columns system satisfy allowable story-drifts, thus the latter is applied. The seismic-resisting capacity of these systems was improved by the two methods. This research will be helpful to remodel deteriorated apartment houses.
This study investigates effects of partially earth anchored cable system on the structural safety for a long-span cable-stayed bridge under dynamic loads such as seismic and wind load. For a three span cable-stayed bridge with a main span length of 810 m, two models are analyzed and compared; one is a bridge model with a self anchored cable system, the other is a bridge model with a partially earth anchored cable system. By performing multi-mode spectrum analysis for a prescribed seismic load and multi-mode buffeting analysis for a fluctuating wind component, the structural response of two models are compared. From results, the partially earth anchored cable system reduce the maximum pylon moment by 66% since earth anchored cables affect the natural frequencies of girder vertical modes and pylon longitudinal modes. In addition, the girder axial forces are decreased, specially the decrement of the axial force is large in seismic load, while girder moment is slightly increased. Thus, the partially earth anchored cable system is effective system not only on reduction of girder axial forces but also improvement of structural safety of a cable-stayed bridge under dynamic loads such as seismic and wind loads.
