  • This study was conducted to examine the relationship between pre-service early childhood teacher's motivations of choosing a teaching profession, educational belief, and self-directed learning readiness. The sample included 308 early childhood education major students, and the data were collected using the Modified Orientation to Teach Survey (MOTS), Teaching-belief type scale, and self-directed learning readiness scale. A statistical analysis included correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows: 1) analysis of the relationship between pre-service early childhood teacher's motivations of choosing a teaching profession, educational belief, and self-directed learning readiness conveys that intellectual stimulation and self-directed learning had the strongest relationships while nature of work had the weakest. For educational belief and self-directed learning readiness, maturationism and interactionism showed significantly positive correlations while behaviorism displayed a negative correlation. Behaviorism had a significantly negative correlation with openness for challenge, a sub-factor of self-directed learning. 2) Analysis of the effect of pre-service early childhood teacher's motivations of choosing a teaching profession and educational belief on self-directed learning readiness indicates that pre-service early childhood teacher's motivations of choosing a teaching profession had a stronger effect on self-directed learning. These results suggest the following: successful performance as an early childhood teacher not only requires receiving institutionalized education but also self-directed learning while working as an early childhood teacher.

  • Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effects of flipped learning on paramedic students' self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy. Methods: A one-group pretest, posttest design was utilized for the 32 paramedic students who participated. The data were analyzed by employing paired t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient along with the SPSS 23.0 program. Results: The scores of self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy significantly increased after flipped learning classes (t = -3.90, p<.05; t = -5.92, p<.05, respectively). Conclusion: Flipped learning is an effective intervention for improving self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy in paramedic education. In the long run, the application of flipped learning will play a role in improving the paramedic students' educational environment and strengthening the overall abilities of students.

  • This study examined the effect service learning combined with self-directed study had on transferring skills from the university classroom to their practical application in local community centers. The subjects of this study were students who took service learning classes from September 1, 2019 to December 28, 2019. The research question in this paper is 'What is the relationship between service learning-based general classes and self-directed learning?'. That is, how do service learning-based general classes affect sub-elements of self-directed learning? We then tried to determine how the variables of individual learners can affect self-directed learning ability. The results showed that autonomy and problem solving were the greatest at r=.66. Openness and self-assessment (r=.60), autonomy and self-assessment (r=.55) had significant correlation. Learner autonomy had a significant correlation with facilitation and collaboration of service learning (**p<.01). According to this result of the study, it is possible for learners to deepen what they have learned at school and to practice and gain experience through community service. Further, practical problem solving and self-assessment through reflection are possible. Learners were able to inspire responsibility as members of society and increase self-esteem as democratic citizens.

The current study would investigate: 1) the pre-service English teachers' perception as a rubric developer and self-evaluator, 2) the number of analytic area that the participants included in their rubrics and the scoring scheme that they designed in their rubrics, and 3) the inter-rater differences between self-assessemnt and expert-assessment across analytic areas. Twenty-four EFL learners participated in the current study. The researchers analyzed the learners' own English poetry, their field notes which contained the process of their writing, their rubrics, scores of self-assessment, and expert raters' scores. The results revealed that learners showed positive responses on learner-directed assessment, that 'content' is the most important area, and that inter-rater difference is small across all analytic areas.

  • This is a descriptive investigative study which attempts to confirm the mediating effect of learning motivation in the relationship between self-directed learning, learning commitment, and learning persistence intention of university students in an online learning environment. The questionnaires were randomly distributed online and the agreed questionnaires were retrieved, with a total of 338 copies used for analysis. The following is the summary of the findings. First, there were significant differences in learning persistence intention according to general characteristics depending on age, major, part-time job, and academic level. Second, the results showed a positive correlation between self-directed learning, learning commitment, learning motivation, and learning persistence intentions of the subjects were statistically significant. Third, after checking the mediating effect of learning motivation in relation to self-directed learning, learning commitment and learning motivation, the learning motivation has a partial mediating effect on learning and 23% explanatory power, and the learning commitment was found to have a complete mediating effect on the impact of learning motivation on learning intentions with 21% explanatory power. Based on these results, it is necessary to provide a more diverse educational environment, such as operating a motivation semester program that can improve learning motivations along with learning commitment, and the use of a variety of contents that can focus the learner's interest or attention.
