Stability analysis of bimodular pin-ended slender rod

  • Many novel materials, developed in recent years, have obvious properties with different modulus of elasticity in tension and compression. The ratio of their tensile modulus to compressive modulus is as high as five times. Nowadays, it has become a new trend to study the mechanical properties of these bimodular materials. At the present stage, there are extensive studies related to the strength analysis of bimodular structures, but the investigation of the buckling stability problem of bimodular rods seems to cover new ground. In this article, a semi-analytical method is proposed to acquire the buckling critical load of bimodular slender rod. By introducing non-dimensional parameters, the position of neutral axis of the bimodular rod in the critical state can be determined. Then by combining the phased integration method, the deflection differential equation of bimodular pin-ended slender rod is deduced. In addition, the buckling critical load is obtained by solving this equation. An example, which is conducted by comparing the calculation results between the three of the methods including the laboratory tests, numerical simulation method and the method we developed here, shows that the method proposed in the present work is reliable to use. Furthermore, the influence of bimodular characteristics on the stability is discussed and analyzed.

  • In this paper, we propose a signal processing board suitable for a semi-active laser tracking to detect an optical signal generated from the laser target designator by applying an analog trigger signal, the quadrant photodetector and a high speed ADC(analog-digital converter) sampling technique. We improved the stability by applying the averaging method to minimize the measurement error of a gaussian pulse. To evaluate the performances of the proposed methods, we implemented a prototype board and performed experiments. As a result, we implemented a frequency counter with an error 14.9ns in 50ms. PRF error code has a stability of less than 1.5% compared to the NATO standard. Applying the three point averaging method to ADC sampling, the stability of 28% in X-axis and 22% in Y-axis than one point sampling was improved.

노인의 균형증진을 위한 가상현실 기반 훈련의 몰입도에 따른 균형능력 비교 (Comparison of Balance Ability according to the Immersion Level of Virtual Reality-based Training for the Balance Enhancement of the Elderly)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to compare balance ability according to the immersion level of virtual reality-based training for the balance enhancement of the elderly. Methods: This study included 48 elderly people aged 65 years and older (male 16, female 32). According to the immersion level of applied virtual reality training, 16, 17, and 15 persons were randomly assigned to full immersion, semi-immersion, and control groups. The subjects who were assigned to the full immersion group and semi-immersion group received virtual reality training for 6 weeks at 20 min at a time, 3 times per week. The control group received no intervention. Balance ability was evaluated by measuring the stability limit and the tandem walking test before and after the intervention. Results: Results showed significant differences among the three groups in the limit of stability of all directions and the tandem walking test after the intervention. The results of the limit of stability showed a significantly higher value in the full-immersion group than in the control group, and the results of the tandem walking test showed a significantly lower value in the full-immersion and semi-immersion groups than in the control group. Conclusion: The results indicate that the head-mounted display equipment for applying full-immersion virtual training is the most effective in enhancing the balance ability of the elderly.

Fuzzy-sliding mode control of a full car semi-active suspension systems with MR dampers

  • A fuzzy-sliding mode controller is presented to control the dynamics of semi-active suspension systems of vehicles using magneto-rheological (MR) fluid dampers. A full car model is used to design and evaluate the performance of the proposed semi-active controlled suspension system. Four mixed mode MR dampers are designed, manufactured, and integrated with four independent sliding mode controllers. The siding mode controller is designed to decrease the energy consumption and maintain robustness. In order to overcome the chattering of the sliding mode controllers, a fuzzy logic control strategy is merged into the sliding mode controller. The proposed fuzzy-sliding mode controller is designed and fabricated. The performance of the semi-active suspensions is evaluated in both the time and frequency domains. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed fuzzy-sliding mode controller can effectively suppress the vibration of vehicles and improve their ride comfort and handling stability. Furthermore, it is shown that the "chattering" of the sliding mode controller is smoothed when it is integrated with a fuzzy logic control strategy. Although the cost function of the fuzzy-sliding mode control is a slightly higher than that of a classical LQR controller, the control effectiveness and robustness are enhanced considerably.

경비행기의 비행특성 분석 및 준경험적 분석 방법 비교 (A Comparison Study on the Semi-empirical Analysis Approach for the Flight Characteristics of a Light Airplane)

  • 본 연구에서는 MDO 프레임워크 개발을 위하여 다양한 준경험적 방법에 근거한 해석적 방법으로 경비행기인 창공-91의 비행운동 특성 파라미터를 추출하고 비행시험 방법을 기준으로 비교하여 평가하였다. 비교 대상의 준경험적 분석 방법은 Perkins 방법, McCormick 방법, 그리고 Smetana 방법이며, 각각의 방법을 통하여 주요 안정성/조종성 미계수와 동안정 계수를 산출하였다. 이에 대한 비교 기준은 비행시험을 수행하여 취득한 데이터로부터 출력오차방법을 활용하여 비행운동 미계수와 동안정 계수를 추출하였다. 아울러 경비행기의 비행특성을 우리나라 국토교통부의 항공기기술기준(KAS, Korean Airworthiness Standard)의 항목과 미 군용의 MIL-F-8785C의 기준으로 분석하여 평가하였다.

삼병렬 터널의 안정성 검토를 위한 모형실험 연구 (A Study for the Stability Investigation of Three Parallel Tunnels Using Scaled Model Tests)

  • 삼병렬 터널은 3개의 터널이 서로 나란히 배열되는 형태의 터널이다. 본 연구에서는 터널간 이격거리, 터널단면 형상, 지보조건, 지반조건 등이 서로 다른 7가지 삼병렬 터널 모형들에 대한 축소모형실험을 통하여 모형별 균열개시압력과 터널 주변지반의 변형거동을 조사하였다. 터널간 이격거리가 작은 모형일수록 낮은 압력 수준에서 필러의 파괴가 일어나고 터널의 내공변형량도 증가하여 터널의 안정성은 감소하였다. 터널단면의 형상이 아치형, 편평아치형, 사각형인 모형들 중에서 사각형 단면을 가진 터널의 안정성이 가장 작았으며, 천반곡률반경이 작은 아치형 터널이 편평아치형 터널보다 안정성이 우수하였다. 터널의 천장부에 모형 록볼트를 설치한 모형은 무지보 터널 모형에 비하여 균열개시압력이 클 뿐만 아니라 천단침하량도 적게 나타나 지보의 효과를 확인할 수 있었다. 이방성 암반내 터널 모형은 등방성 모형과 매우 다른 변형거동을 나타내었으며, FLAC을 사용한 수치해석 결과는 모형실험의 결과와 정성적으로 부합하였다.

  • In this paper, a robust $H_{\infty}$ a controller for semi-active suspension system is proposed. For the improvement of ride quality, the robust $H_{\infty}$ controller is designed to satisfy robust stability and road disturbance attenuation using an $H_{\infty}$ control design procedure. The performances of the design controller for some road conditions are evaluated by computer simulation and finally these simulation results show the usefulness and applicability of the proposed robust $H_{\infty}$ controller.

  • A new semi-continuous sliding mode control is proposed for electromagnetic suspension systems. The control input is derived from the reaching law and the Lyapunov stability criteria, which is composed of continuous terms and low switching term. It has a low switching gain and chattering fee characteristics. It is shown by the computer simulation that the proposed control has good tracking performance and robustness compared with the classical sliding mode control.

Geometrically nonlinear analysis of plane frames with semi-rigid connections accounting for shear deformations

  • The behaviour of beam-to-column connections plays an important role in the analysis and design of steel structures. A computer-based method is presented for nonlinear steel frames with semi-rigid connections accounting for shear deformations. The analytical procedure employs transcendental stability functions to model the effect of axial force on the stiffness of members. The member stiffness matrix, and the fixed end forces for various loads were found. The nonlinear analysis method is applied for three planar steel structures. The method is readily implemented on a computer using matrix structural analysis techniques and is applicable for the efficient nonlinear analysis of frameworks.
