Experimental Investigation of a High-repetition-rate Pr3+:YLF Laser with Single-frequency Oscillation

  • We demonstrate a Pr3+:YLF 639.7-nm laser with single-frequency output based on the Q-switched pre-lase technology, pumped by a fiber-coupled GaN blue laser diode. The pre-lase technology is realized by the step-type loss of the acousto-optical Q-switched device. The conclusions of the theoretical research are verified experimentally. The mode-suppression ratio was 44 dB at the single-frequency laser output. Detection by interferometer verified the realization of the stable single-frequency laser. In addition, the emission spectrum had a linewidth of 139.9 MHz, measured by Fabry-Perot interferometer. The single-frequency laser's single-peak power was over 19.7 W with 98.8-ns pulse duration, obtained under an absorption power of 1.74 W.

  • In the electronic, medical, aerospace and automobile industries, many products and parts are manufactured by joining. Recently, as these get smaller, micro joining is becoming more and more important. In this study, micro wire-to-micro wire parallel joining was performed using single mode fiber laser. Maximum power of the fiber laser is 100 W. The CCD(Charge- Coupled Device, CCD) camera to observe the specimen was made up. The objective was applied to micro joining system to make a small spot size of laser beam. In order to control the target position, micro-multi-axis-stage was set up. This paper presents results for the single mode fiber laser joining of micro wires.

A study on the lasing characteristics of diode-pumped, single-mode Nd:YVO4 green laser (다이오드 여기 Nd:YVO4 단일모드 녹색광 레이저의 출력 특성 연구)

  • A diode-pumped single-mode Nd:YV $O_4$ green laser was developed. Frequency doubling of the laser was achieved by using an intracavity KTP generated green beam (532 nm). By comparing the diode laser spectrum with absorption spectrum of the Nd:YV $O_4$ crystal, we found optimal operating temperature of the diode laser. From output power measured for various mirror curvatures and cavity lengths, we found the optimal matching of TE $M_{00}$ mode with the pump beam gives the best efficiency. When the pump power was 1.9 W, 80 ㎽ of TE $M_{00}$ mode green beam was obtained. We tried to get a single longitudinal mode lasing as the fluctuation of the laser power was caused by the shift of longitudinal modes and the beating between the modes. We tested the intracavity etalon method and birefringent filter method for single mode operation. The etalon method resulted in the best single mode output power of 60 ㎽. The power fluctuation of the single-mode laser was reduced to 1/10 of that of the multi-mode laser.

  • Simultaneous measurements of oxygen concentration and temperature using diode laser in the combustion environment are successfully accomplished. A single DFB type diode laser of 760 nm line centre frequency is used and the scanned-wavelength direct absorption spectroscopy method and wavelength modulation spectroscopy method are applied to measure absorption signals below 793 K temperature region. The experimental results show that oxygen concentration are measured within 1% accuracy and temperature are measured within 5% accuracy. This new method of simultaneous measurements of concentration and temperature with a single diode laser shows a great promise.

  • We developed LD Pumped Nd:$VVO_4$ microchip laser with the cavity length of 1mm. The microchip laser output was 87.5㎽ at the wavelength of 1063.9nm with the input power of 241㎽ at the wavelength of 809nm. The slope efficiency was 40.7% and the threshold input power was 31.1㎽. We have also defined input power limit for the single longitudinal mode operation theoretically. It was 2.5 times larger than that of threshold input intensity. According to the results of simulation, the Nd:YVO$_4$ microchip laser can be operated with the maximum output of 15㎽ for the single longitudinal mode up to the input power of 77.75㎽.

  • In this work, we have studied on time-resolved transient reflective image of single crystalline Si surface after single-shot fs-laser irradiation with varying the laser fluence under two different laser spot sizes. The temporal profiles of transient reflectivity changes as well as its maximum values at the early delay time were found to be strongly dependent on both the laser beam spot size and laser fluence. We have interpreted the dependence of transient reflectivity changes on the laser spot size in terms of a relaxation of the generated free carriers to the bulk silicon, which should be interacted with the plasma.

Properties of Y3Al5O12:Ce3+,Pr3+ Single Crystal for White Laser Lightings (백색 레이저 조명용 Y3Al5O12:Ce3+,Pr3+ 단결정 특성)

  • $Y_3A_{l5}O_{12}:Ce^{3+},Pr^{3+}$ single crystal phosphor was prepared by floating zone method. single crystal was confirmed to have a Ia-3d (230) space group of cubic structure and showed regular morphology. The optical properties, single crystal exhibited a emission band from green, yellow wide wavelength and 610nm, 640nm red wavelength vicinity. The luminance maintenance rate was decreased by phonon with increasing temperature, but high luminance is maintained more than powder phosphor. In addition, $Y_3A_{l5}O_{12}:Ce^{3+},Pr^{3+}$ single crystal phosphor was applied to a high power blue laser diode, we implemented high power white laser lightings. and it was confirmed that thermal properties over time, due to the effective heat transfer of complete crystal structure. We confirmed that excellent radiant heat properties than powder phosphor was applied to a high power white laser diode.

Fabrication of waveguide using UV Ar-ion laser direct writing (Laser Direct Writing 방법을 이용한 광도파로 제작)

  • The laser direct writing method using a UV Argon-ion laser is studied for fabrication of waveguide. The laser direct writing system is constructed with a vision camera, a xy-stage, a motion controller and the delivery components of a laser beam. The UV Argon-ion laser has wavelength range of $333.6\~363.8$ nm. A photo-active UV curable polymer for a planar light-wave circuit(PLC) of single mode is used. This polymer is irradiated by Argon-ion laser and developed by a solvent after a post-baking. The optimum laser direct writing condition is obtained experimentally by changing various process parameters such as laser power, writing speed and focal length. The propagation and coupling loss of a optical waveguide was measured as 1dB/cm and 0.6dB/cm, respectively. Also, the minimum width of waveguide of $100{\mu}m$(ZPLW-207) is obtained. Finally, the waveguides of line, bend and branch type are successfully fabricated.

Evanescent-field Q-switched Yb:YAG Channel Waveguide Lasers with Single- and Double-pass Pumping

  • A femtosecond-laser inscribed Yb:YAG surface channel waveguide (WG) laser with single-walled carbon nanotubes deposited on the top surface of the WG was passively Q-switched by evanescent field interaction. Q-switched operation of the 14-mm-long compact Yb:YAG WG laser was achieved near 1031 nm with two different pumping schemes (single- and double-pass pumping) with an output coupling transmission of 91%. The Q-switched pulse characteristics depending on the absorbed pump power were investigated for both pumping geometries and analyzed in detail based on theoretical modeling. The best performances (energy/pulse duration) for each configuration were 204.4 nJ/75 ns at a repetition rate of 1.87 MHz, and 201.1 nJ/81 ns at 1.75 MHz for single- and double-pass pumping, respectively.

  • Distribution of the local critical temperature and current density in YBCO coated conductors were analyzed using Low-temperature Scanning Laser and Hall Probe Microscopy (LTSLHPM). We prepared YBCO coated conductors of various bridge types to study the spatial distribution of the critical temperature and the current density in single and multi bridges. LTSLHPM system was modified for detailed linescan or two-dimensional scan both scanning laser and scanning Hall probe method simultaneously. We analyzed the local critical temperature of single and multi bridges from series of several linescans of scanning laser microscopy. We also investigated local current density and hysteresis curve of single bridge from experimental results of scanning Hall probe microscopy.
