  • This thesis is the research for methods to forecast of dynamic changes at retail stores in the ubiquitous era, and, through adopting RFID based technology, to minimize cost of operation of stores and bringing up better customer service. The core methods had been researched and studied are to build future-oriented stores by providing store system with better customer's convenience based on referring to case studies of future-oriented stores and efficient inventory management method enabling more profitable store, and adopting Smart Carts, Smart Shelf and e-POP and environment sensors as a method in order to provide more improved customer service.

Anthocyanin - A Natural Dye for Smart Food Packaging Systems

  • Interest in the use of smart packaging systems for food products has increased in recent years. Therefore, food researchers are focusing on the development of new indicator based smart packaging technologies by using anthocyanin-based natural dye. Anthocyanins are one of the plant constituents known as flavonoids and responsible for the bright and attractive orange, red, purple, and blue colors of most fruits, vegetables, flowers, and some cereal grains. Indicators of natural dyes such as anthocyanins could express the quality and shelf life of perishable food products. However, the sensitivity and stability for their use in smart food packaging should be established to reach the market proposals. This review article focuses on recent studies related to use of natural dyes based on anthocyanin for smart food packaging applications. This study offers valuable insight that may be useful for identifying trends in the commercialization of natural dyes or for identifying new research areas. This review also provides food and packaging scientists with a thorough understanding of the benefits of anthocyanin-based natural dyes for shelf life indicator when applied to package material specific foods and hence can assist in accelerating commercial adoption.

Development of a smart wireless sensing unit using off-the-shelf FPGA hardware and programming products

  • In this study, Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are investigated as a practical solution to the challenge of designing an optimal platform for implementing algorithms in a wireless sensing unit for structuralhealth monitoring. Inherent advantages, such as tremendous processing power, coupled with reconfigurable and flexible architecture render FPGAs a prime candidate for the processing core in an optimal wireless sensor unit, especially when handling Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and system identification algorithms. This paper presents an effort to create a proof-of-concept unit, wherein an off-the-shelf FPGA development board, available at a price comparable to a microprocessor development board, was adopted. Data processing functions, including windowing, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), and peak detection, were implemented in the FPGA using a Matlab Simulink-based high-level abstraction tool rather than hardware descriptive language. Simulations and laboratory tests were carried out to validate the design.

  • 본 논문에서는 물품관리의 효율성을 위해 모바일 RFID리더기와 스마트 모바일 기기를 이용한 스마트 선반 시스템을 제안한다. 이 시스템을 사용하여 관리자는 물품에 부착되어진 태그를 읽어서 실시간으로 물품의 상세정보를 열람할 수 있고, 선반에 부착되어진 태그를 읽어서 물품의 재고나 위치오류 상태를 파악할 수 있다. 이는 각 선반마다 RFID리더기를 부착시킨 형태의 기존의 스마트선반 시스템과 유사한 기능을 수행하면서도 구축비용과 물품 재질에 따른 인식 오류의 해결부담을 줄일 수 있는 효과가 있다.

  • 본 과제는 일반적인 선반 사용에 어려움과 불편함을 겪고 있는 노약자들을 위한 해결 방법으로 제안되었다. 스마트선반을 이용할 경우 스마트폰과 블루투스 연결을 하게 되며 앱과 연동하게 된다. 이때 초음파 센서가 선반과 장애자 사이의 거리를 측정하게 되며 거리 안에 들어오게 되면 스피커 모듈을 통해 알람이 울리게 되며, 시각장애인의 경우 선반의 위치를 알고 그 자리에서 원하는 선반의 층의 버튼을 누르거나 음성인식을 통하여 원하는 층을 말하게 되면 높은 위치에 있는 선반의 물건을 어렵게 꺼내지 않고도 원하는 위치에 올 수 있게 된다.

CBD의 부분 매칭 문제 해결을 위한 커넥터 설계 기법 (A Method to Design Connectors to Resolve Partial Matching Problems in CBD)

  • 효율적 재사용 기술인 컴포넌트 기반 개발(Component-based Development, CBD)이 보급화되고 있다. 특히 Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) 컴포넌트는 컴포넌트 내부의 구조 보다 컴포넌트 간의 연결 구조가 중요하다. 컴포넌트 사용자가 요구하는 기능과 적절한 인터페이스를 제공하는 컴포넌트를 식별하여 재사용하는 일은 CBD에서 핵심 작업 중 하나이다 만약 식별된 후보 컴포넌트가 제한된 활용성과 기능을 제공한다면, 컴포넌트 사용자는 어플리케이션을 개발할 때 컴포넌트들을 재사용할 수 없다. 후보 컴포넌트와 사용자가 요구하는 사항과의 불일치를 해결하기 위해 스마트 커넥터가 필요하다. 그러나 기존 연구는 컴포넌트 불일치 해결을 위한 커넥터의 종류는 정의되어 있지만, 컴포넌트간의 부분 매칭을 식별하기 위한 방법과 절차가 부족하다. 본 논문에서는 컴포넌트의 부분 매칭 문제를 식별하기 위한 분류 기법을 제시한다. 이 분류 기법을 이용하여 부분 매칭을 해결하기 위한 스마트 커넥터의 종류를 식별하고, 커넥터를 설계하기 위한 기법을 제안한다. 따라서 부분 매칭 문제를 갖는 컴포넌트도 어플리케이션 개발시 사용될 수 있다.

Frozen Bread Dough: a Smart Technology

  • Bread making is based on several simple unit operations, basically kneading, fermentation and baking; however, it is still a quite complex process and bread quality can be strongly affected by minor details. The market of bread production is roughly shared at 50-50 between the industry market and the artisanal market, even though the frontier between these two players is not very easy. Different strategies have been developped by the industry to extend the shelf life of bread or to interrupt the bread making process. Freezing for example has been used form the 50s to extend the shelf life of bakery products. It was first applied to fully baked products and then to frozen dough which appeared as an interesting strategy to interrupt the bread making protocol. This paper presents a review on key issues of the frozen dough technology.

  • Oysters are a highly consumed seafood throughout Korea, but they have a short shelf life because they support rapid microbial growth due to their of high moisture content and fragile muscle tissue. We examined natural food additives including lactic acid bacteria fermentation powder, rosemary extract, and lemon juice for their ability to preserve raw oyster Crassostrea gigas quality. Samples were stored at 4℃, and microbiological and physicochemical analyses were conducted. Among the natural additives tested, lemon juice was the most effective. Lemon juice was thus applied at different concentrations (50-300 ppm) to quantitatively assess its effect on total viable cell count, pH, glycogen, soluble protein, and turbidity. 200 ppm was confirmed to be optimal, and is projected to extend shelf life by 2 days compared to the control group.

  • ADRS는 프로그램 가능한 자동화 컨트롤러로써 스마트무인기를 위해 설계된 저비용의 재구성 가능한 비행시험 데이터 수집 시스템이다. 본 논문에서는 하드웨어와 소프트웨어 설계내용을 기술하였다. ADRS와 DFCC 인터페이스, ADRS와 센서 인터페이스에 대한 하드웨어 구성과 수정사항을 기술하였으며 ADRS 운용 소프트웨어와 데이터 저장에 대한 절차가 설명되었다. 마지막으로 스마트무인기의 지상시험과정을 통한 ADRS의 검증과정 및 결과가 제시되었다.

Comparison of Storability and Quality of Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annum L.) Grown in Two Different Hydroponics Media

  • This study compared the effects of cocopeat and perlite growth media on the storability and quality of sweet pepper fruit stored using modified atmosphere packages (MAP) and carton boxes. The fruits were stored at 8℃ for 35 and 30 days, respectively. Perlite-grown fruits had a significantly lower size at harvest due to the medium's inability to hold plenty of water during the growing stage. Contrary to what is expected for small fruits, the result shows box-stored perlite-grown fruits to have lower weight loss and a longer shelf life than cocopeat-grown fruits, while MAP fruits have indifference. Perlite fruits also had a higher quality in terms of dry matter, soluble solids, and vitamin C, while box-stored fruits had a better visual quality. As expected, respiration and ethylene production rates were high, and fruits had similar after-storage firmness values. Based on the findings, perlite-grown sweet pepper fruits may have a better quality and give preference in a box storage condition.
