Fault detection has to be proceeded by steady state filtering to get rid of transient effect associated with thermal capacity. Coefficient of variance (COV), ratio of standard deviation devided by moving average, was employed as steady-state filter. Engine speed and refrigerant pressures were selected as parameters representing system dynamics. The filtered values were registered as members of steady-state DB. They were found to show good functional relationship with ambient temperature. The relationship was fitted with a second order polynomial and the distribution bounds of the data around the fitted curve were expressed by visual inspection because of varying average and random data interval. Fault data were compared with the steady-state data obtained during normal operation. The fault data were easily isolated from the fault-free one. To make such isolation reliable, tests to construct good DB should be designed in a systematic way.

A correlation between the transient regime and steady state regime on the creep crack growth (CCG) for Grade 91 steel, which is used as the structural material for the Gen-IV reactor systems, was investigated. A series of CCG tests were performed using 1/2" CT specimens under a constant applied load and at a constant temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. The CCG rates for the transient and steady state regimes were obtained in terms of $C^*$ parameter. The transient CCG rate had a close correlation with the steady-state CCG rate, as the slope of the transient CCG data was very similar to that of the steady state data. The transient rate was slower by 5.6 times as compared to the steady state rate. It can be inferred that the steady state CCG rate, which is required for long-time tests, can be predicted from the transient CCG rate obtained from short-time tests.

An integrated adhesive wear model was proposed to determine the transient wear and steady-state wear of aluminium alloy matrix composites. The transient wear volume was described by an exponential equation, while the steady-state wear was governed by a revised Archard equation, in which both the transient wear volume and transient sliding distance were excluded. A mathematical method was developed to determine both the transient distance and the net steady-state wear coefficient. Experimental wear tests were carried out on three types of commercial A6061 aluminum alloy matrix composites reinforced with 10%, 15% and 20% alumina particles. More accurate wear coefficient values were obtained with the proposed model. The average standard wear coefficient, as determined by the original Archard equation, was found to be about 51% higher.

Moye's analytical solution was examined as a method for constant-head tests under steady-state conditions, and results were compared with transient-state analyses in in situ hydraulic tests. The sensitivity of hydraulic conductivities calculated using Moye's method increased with the length of the test section, which should be as large as possible under test conditions. Particularly in low-permeability media with less than 10-8 m/sec of hydraulic conductivity, hydraulic conductivity is lower than that under transient-state conditions and can be recalculated by adjusting the boundary between radial and spherical flow assumed in Moye's equation. Constant-head tests performed in the research borehole at the KAERI Underground Research Tunnel (KURT) indicated that transmissivities derived from the constant-head withdrawal test under transient-state conditions in low-permeability media were higher than those derived from steady-state tests, likely because the groundwater flow boundary was smaller than the "half of the test-section length"assumed by Moye's equation. When interpreting constant-head test results for crystalline rock, the hydrogeological properties of the medium may be better understood by considering assumed conditions accompanying analysis of the steady-state condition and comparing them with results for the transient-state analysis, rather than simply assuming properties based on steady-state analyses.

The multi type heat pump system may provide more energy savings and better environmental conditions than the single type heat pump system may do. In order to design a multi type heat pump system, it may be recommended to develop the system simulation program, which can predict the characteristics of the system such as unit capacities, power consumptions, and system COP's. In this study, the steady state simulation program of the multi type heat pump system was developed. The results from the simulation program were compared with those from the experimental tests which were performed in the environmental chamber, Cooling tests show 3.11% and 0.94% of error in capacity and COP, and heating tests show 3.30% and 1.90% of error in capacity and COP, respectively. Therefore, the steady state simulation program developed for this study can effectively be used for the design and the performance prediction of the multi type heat pump system.

Since Broms and Bennermark(1967) suggested the face stability criterion based on laboratory extrusion tests and field observations, the face stability of a tunnel driven in cohesive material has been studied by several authors. And recently, more general solution for the tunnel front is given by Leca and Panet(1988). They adopted a limit state design concept to evaluate the face stability of a shallow tunnel driven into cohesionless material and showed that the calculated upper bound solution represented the actual behavior reasonably well. In this study, two factors are simultaneously considered for assessing tunnel face stability: One is the effective stress acting on the tunnel front calculated by upper bound solution; and the other is the seepage force calculated by numerical analysis under the condition of steady state ground water flow. The model tests were performed to evaluate the seepage force acting on the tunnel front and these results were compared with results of numerical analysis. Consequently, the methodology to evaluate the stability of a tunnel face including limit analysis and seepage analysis is suggested under the condition of steady state ground water flow.
An inverse ferrofluid composed of micron sized polymethylmethacrylate particles dispersed in ferrofluid was used to investigate the effects of test duration times on determining the flow curves of these materials under constant magnetic field. The results showed that flow curves determined using low duration times were most likely not measuring the steady state rheological response. However, at longer duration times, which are expected to correspond more to steady state behaviour, we noticed the occurrence of plateau and decreasing flow curves in the shear rate range of $0.004\;s^{-1}$ to ${\sim}20\;s^{-1}$, which suggest the presence of nonhomogeneities and shear localization in the material. This behaviour was also reflected in the steady state results from shear start up tests performed over the same range of shear rates. The results indicate that care is required when interpreting flow curves obtained for inverse ferrofluids.
Creep tests of the TiC particulate reinforced Al composite have been conducted in the temperature ranges from 200 to $500^{\circ}C$. The steady-state cree rate of the composite depended strongly on the temperature and ap' plied stress. The stress exponent for the steady state creep rate of the composites was approximately 17.5 and the activation anergy was calculated to be 390KJ/mol. The steady-state creep equation could be written as $\acute{\varepsilon}_{ss}$$$(s^{-1})=1.5{\times}10^{-9}\;{\sigma}^{17.5}\exp(-390000/RT)$$. Fracture surface examination showed that the fracture mode of the particulate reinforced composite was ductile by plastic tearing of the aluminum matrix and TiC particle interfaces were offered as sites for crack.
The effects of antimony addition on the microstructures and creep behavior of AZ31 magnesium alloy have been investigated. Constant load creep tests were carried out at temperatures ranging from $150^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$, and an initial stress of 50MPa for AZ31 alloys containing antimony up to 0.84% by weight. Results show that small additions of antimony to AZ31 effectively decreased the creep extension and steady state creep rates. The steady state creep rate of AZ31 was reduced 2.5 times by the addition of 0.84% of antimony. The steady state creep rate of AZ31-0.84Sb alloy was controlled by dislocation climb in which the activation energy for creep was 128 kJ/mole. The microstructure of as-cast AZ31-0.84%Sb alloy showed the presence of $Mg_3Sb_2$ precipitates dispersed throughout the matrix. The main reason for the higher creep resistance in AZ31-Sb alloys is due to the presence $Mg_3Sb_2$, which effectively hindered the movement of dislocations during the elevated temperature creep.
A sub-channel solver, named ${\underline{S}}teady$ and ${\underline{T}}ransient$${\underline{A}}nalyzer$ for ${\underline{R}}eactor$${\underline{T}}hermal$ hydraulics (START), has been developed using the homogenous model for two-phase conditions of light water reactors. The code is developed as a fast and accurate TH-solver for coupled and multi-physics calculations. START has been validated against the NUPEC PWR Sub-channel and Bundle Test (PSBT) database. Tests like single-channel quality and void-fraction for steady state, outlet fluid temperature for steady state, rod-bundle quality and void-fraction for both steady state and transient conditions have been analyzed and compared with experimental values. Results reveal a good accuracy of solution for both steady state and transient scenarios. Axially different values for turbulent mixing coefficient are used based on different grid-spacer types. This provides better results as compared to using a single value of turbulent mixing coefficient. Code-to-code evaluation of PSBT results by the START code compares well with other industrial codes. The START code has been parallelized with the OpenMP algorithm and its numerical performance is evaluated with a large whole PWR core. Scaling study of START shows a good parallel performance.
