Leader-Follower Model Analysis on Mixed Strategy Nash Equilibrium of Electricity Market with Transmission Congestion (송전선 혼잡시의 복합전략 내쉬균형에 대한 선도-추종자 모형 해석)

  • Nash Equilibrium (NE) is as useful tool for investigating a participant's strategic generation quantity in a competitive electricity market. Cournot model may give a mixed strategy NE instead of a pure strategy when transmission constraints are considered. A mixed strategy is difficult to compute, complicated to understand conceptually, and hard to implement in an electricity market practically. This paper presents that a mixed strategy does not appear in Stackelberg leader-follower model even under a transmission congestion. A solution method is proposed for the leader-follower model under a nondifferentiable space of a strategy variable. Based on the pure strategy NE with a transmission line congested, the merit of leader-follower model is shown from a social welfare point of view.

  • A strategic plan for an immediate situation must be present in a business enterprise to deal actively and efficiently with the demand environment of new customer. The purpose of this paper is to provide research about the manufacturing strategy situations of the Korean manufacturing company. And this paper is a part of Modeling on Manufacturing Strategy. We emphasizes the importance of dynamism and complexity on the competitive environment, and classify the manufacturing strategy by trade-off model, cumulative model, sandcone model, strategic fit model, and competitiveness model.

Creative Imitation as Catch-up Strategy: A Business Model

  • Catch-up is a well-known and familiar terminology for innovation scholars in developing countries such as Taiwan, Korea and China. The strategy, however, is too difficult to perform in each industry. This study looks into a catch-up strategy that Apple and Xiaomi used and examines the results on the creative imitation of business model in the smartphone industry. It is quite surprising that even Apple is based on catch-up strategy. They wanted to catch-up Nokia. Our case study shows that these two companies quickly caught up with the leaders, and the common feature of their strategy is characterized as creative imitation of business model. Creative imitation of business model is different from creative imitation of innovation. Furthermore, this research confirms that the creative imitation of business model leads to aggressive creative innovation.

A Simplified Strategy for the Epipolar Geometry of Linear Pushbroom Imagery (선형 Pushbroom 영상의 에피폴라 기하모델 수립을 위한 간소화된 방법론)

  • In this paper, we proposed a simplified strategy for the epipolarity of linear pushbroom imagery. The proposed strategy is verified on "Gupta and Hartly" sensor model and "Orun and Natarajan" sensor model. It is also compared with the precise epipolarity model of each sensor model on SPOT and KOMPSAT imagery. For the quantitative analysis, 20 ground control points are used as independent checking points. Based on the results, the accuracy of the proposed strategy is not different from that of the precise epipolarity model of each sensor model (below 0.1 pixels). Under the worst circumstance, the proposed strategy is robust. We can assure that the proposed strategy will show high accuracy on most of sensor models based on the co-linearity equations.

  • This study presents a research model that demonstrates the dominant design technology strategy for developing and securing dominant design technology based on open innovation. For this purpose, this study developed a strategic model for the development and acquisition of design technology, production technology, and production system of propeller which satisfies the requirements of ship propulsion system required by ship owners and shipbuilders. By studying large propellers for ships, it is possible to embody a strategic model that can be used as a technology development strategy of dominant design that is effective in technology field of other industries. In this study, HSP (High Skewed Propeller) strategy of Hyundai Heavy Industries, which occupies the largest global market share (47.5%, 2007) for more than 30 years until now, is analyzed as a successful case to verify this strategic model. The development and acquisition strategy model of dominant design technology presented in this study consists of four stages : dominant design project strategy, dominant design engineering technology strategy, dominant design production technology strategy, and dominant design production system strategy. The strategic model summarizes the key activities at each stage. In addition, the steps and core activities of this strategic model were confirmed through the case study. As a technology development strategy of HSP products, Hyundai Heavy Industries utilized open innovation technology to cooperate with outside, that is, collaborative research and development with KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) research team, and succeeded in achieving technology development of dominant design of HSP products by linking it with HSP technology development and acquisition strategy.

Market Seeker Strategy and Market Leader Strategy Through Design (디자인을 통한 시장탐색전략과 시장선도전략)

  • This research verified efficiency of 2 design process models; 2-stage model and 3-stage model. 2-stage model means subjective and sensitive design process based on designer's creative mind. Contrarily, 3-stage model means objective, logical and consumer-oriented design process. Past researches have suggested inconsistent conclusions on efficiency of 2 design process models. This study suggested efficiency of 2 design process model based on the concept of market leader strategy and market seeker strategy. The study results imply that, in condition of high prestige brand, 2-stage model based on market leader strategy is more effective and contrarily in case of low prestige brand, 3-stage model based on market seeker strategy is more efficient. However, it is requested to perform various investigation about situations in which each design process model is more effective for the generalization of the study results.

  • There is a significant discrepancy between manufacturing strategy and quality management. This paper attempts to review the literature of manufacturing strategy model in quality perspective The objective of the paper is to clarify the quality aspect of manufacturing strategy models for a better understanding of the subject and to lay a foundation to integrate manufacturing strategy with quality management. The paper is organized as follows. First, the literature review on the issue is presented. The trade-off model, lean production model, cumulative model, sand cone model, quality staircase model are critically reviewed. Next, the discussion on the review model is brought. Finally, conclusions are presented.

  • This study is to search an optimal model on causal relationships of the motivations to learn and motivation strategy in chemistry education. The participants in this study are consisted of G and I high schools students (487) in Gwangju. They all answered to the questionnaire. Model I is hypothesized to be path model of the mediation between 'self-efficacy, achievement need, and entity theory of intelligence' and 'learning strategy and self-handicapping tendency of motivation strategy' by goal orientation to explore variables of study effecting the motivation strategy. And Model II is hypothesized path model of the mediation between goal orientation and 'learning strategy and self-handicapping tendency' by 'self-efficacy, achievement need, and entity theory' to explore variables of study effecting the motivation strategy. Based on these models, structural equation modeling techniques are used to evaluate for the path model among goal orientation(learning, performance approach, and performance approach goal orientation), self-efficacy, achievement need, entity theory of intelligence, self-handicapping tendency, and learning strategy in chemistry education. As the results, Model II is considered. Goodness-of-fit indexes of this model related modification models are identified and analyzed in phases.   • This paper addresses a damping control strategy of Static Synchronous Series Compensator(SSSC) and analysis model for stability study. The effect of injected voltage source generated by SSSC is modelled as equivalent load. This model is thought to be reasonable for the stability study because the dynamics of SSSC is very fast compared with that of power system. Damping controller of SSSC is based on Transient Energy Function method. The proposed control strategy is insensitive to the operating conditions like power flow level because control law depends on the phase angles. The proposed analysis model and control strategy was confirmed by WSCC 9 bus system and two area system. Especially, the robustness of proposed control strategy is demonstrated with respect to multiple operating conditions in two area system.

Strategy Equilibrium in Stackelberg Model with Transmission Congestion in Electricity Market

  • Nash Cournot Equilibrium (NCE) has been widely used in a competitive electricity market to analyze generation firms' strategic production quantities. Congestion on a transmission network may lead to a mixed strategy NCE. Mixed strategy is complicated to understand, difficult to compute, and hard to implement in practical market. However, Stackelberg model based equilibrium does not have any mixed strategy, even under congestion in a transmission line. A guide to understanding mixed strategy equilibrium is given by analyzing a cycling phenomenon in the players' best choices. This paper connects the concept of leader-follower in Stackelberg model with relations between generation firms on both sides of the congested line. From the viewpoint of social welfare, the surplus analysis is presented for comparison between the NCE and the Stackelberg equilibrium (SE).
