  • We prove a norm inequality of the form $\left\$\mid$ \upsilon \right\$\mid$ \leq (r - 1) \left\$\mid$ u \right\$\mid$_p, 1 < p < \infty$, between a non-negative subharmonic function u and a smooth function $\upsilon$ satisfying $$\mid$\upsilon(0)$\mid$ \leq u(0), $\mid$\nabla\upsilon$\mid$ \leq \nabla u$\mid$$ and $\mid$\Delta\upsilon$\mid$ \leq \alpha\Delta u$, where $\alpha$ is a constant with $0 \leq \alpha \leq 1$. This inequality extends Burkholder's inequality where $\alpha = 1$.

  • In this paper we prove the inequality of subharmonic functions between a non-negative subharmonic function u and a smooth function $\upsilon$satisfying |$\upsilon(0)$\mid$\leq u(0), $\mid$\nabla \upsilon $\mid$ \leq$\mid$\nabla u $\mid$\leq c\Delta u $, where 0$\leq$c$\leq$1 is a constant. Here $\mu$is the harmonic measure on $\partial$D with respect to 0.

  • An experimental study has been performed on vortex pairing under fundamental and subharmonic forcing with controlled initial phase differences through hot-wire measurements and a multi-smoke wire flow visualization. For the range of St$_{D}$ < 0.6, vortex pairing was controlled by means of fundamental and subharmonic forcing with varying initial phase differences. Much larger mixing rate was achieved by two-frequency forcing with a proper phase difference than one frequency forcing. As St$_{D}$ decreased, vortex pairing was limited to a narrow region of the initial phase difference between two disturbances and higher amplitudes of the fundamental and its subharmonic at the nozzle exit were required for more stable pairing. As the amplitude of the subharmonic at the nozzle exit increased for fixed St$_{D}$ and fundamental amplitude, the distribution of the subharmonic mode against the variation of the initial phase difference changed from a sine function form into a cusp-like form. Thus, vortex pairing can be controlled more precisely for the former case. For St$_{D}$ > 0.6, non-pairing advection of vortices due to the improper phase difference was sometimes observed in several fundamental forcing amplitudes when only the fundamental was applied. However, when its subharmonic was added, vortex pairing readily occurred. As the initial amplitude of this subharmonic increased, the position of vortex pairing moved upstream. This was thought to be due to the fact that the variation of the initial phase difference between the fundamental and its subharmonic has less effects on vortex pairing in the region of fundamental-only vortex pairing.pairing.

  • We show that any F-harmonic map from a compact manifold M to N is necessarily constant if N possesses a strictly-convex function, and prove 'Liouville type theorems' for F-harmonic maps. Finally, when the target manifold is the real line, we get a result for F-subharmonic functions.

  • This paper deals with the Improvement of inverter output waveform with space vector modulation using the DSP-chip. The proposed scheme can be considered as a alternative of the conventional, subharmonic method. This scheme features a maximum output voltage that is 15% greater. The number of switchings is also 30% less than the one obtained by subharmonic modulation method(SHM) A performance function(PF) which is the time integral function of the inverter output voltage is introduced in this paper. An optimal PWM pattern is obtained by minimizing the distortion factor of performance function. The experiment was carried out with an TMS320C25.

  • In this paper, a planar active retrodirective four-element array with subharmonic phase conjugation mixers based on anti-parallel diode pairs (APDPs) is designed, and its application in the auto-tracking duplex communication link is presented. As compared to previous phase conjugation mixers using twice RF frequency for LO frequency, the proposed conjugation mixers need only half RF frequency so that it can be easily applied for millimeter-wave applications. The proposed architecture, which conventionally performs the function of the transmission of an incident signal back in the direction of its source, is modified in order to include a receive function. Experimental verification of these architectures is performed at 1GHz and the results from the prototypes are compared with a theoretical model.

  • A holomorphic function F defined on the unit disc belongs to $A^{p,{\alpha}}$ (0 < p < $\infty$, 1 < ${\alpha}$ < $\infty$) if $\int\limits_U|F(z)|^p \frac{1}{1-|z|}(1+log)\frac{1}{1-|z|})^{-\alpha}$ dxdy < $\infty$. For boundedness of the composition operator defined by $C_{fg}=g{\circ}f$ mapping Blochs into $A^{p,{\alpha}$ the following (1) is a sufficient condition while (2) is a necessary condition. (1) $\int\limits_o^1\frac{1}{1-r}(1+log\frac{1}{1-r})^{-\alpha}M_p(r,\lambda{\circ}f)^p\;dr$ < $\infty$ (2) $\int\limits_o^1\frac{1}{1-r}(1+log\frac{1}{1-r})^{-\alpha+p}(1-r)^pM_p(r,f^#)^p\;dr$ < $\infty$.

  • In this paper, we investigate the notion of q-pseudoconvexity to discuss and describe some geometric characterizations of q-pseudoconvex domains ${\Omega}{\subset}{\mathbb{C}}^n$. In particular, we establish that ${\Omega}$ is q-pseudoconvex, if and only if, for every boundary point, the Levi form of the boundary is semipositive on the intersection of the holomorphic tangent space to the boundary with any (n-q+1)-dimensional subspace $E{\subset}{\mathbb{C}}^n$. Furthermore, we prove that the Kiselman's minimum principal holds true for all q-pseudoconvex domains in ${\mathbb{C}}^p{\times}{\mathbb{C}}^n$ such that each slice is a convex tube in ${\mathbb{C}}^n$.

  • Nonlinear harmonic waves generated at cracked interfaces are investigated both experimentally and theoretically. A compact tension specimen is fabricated and the amplitude of transmitted wave is analyzed as a function of position along the fatigued crack surface. In order to measure as many nonlinear harmonic components as possible a broadband Lithium Niobate ($LiNbO_3$) transducers are employed together with a calibration technique for making absolute amplitude measurements with fluid-coupled receiving transducers. Cracked interfaces are shown to generate high acoustic nonlinearities which are manifested as harmonies in the power spectrum of the received signal. The first subharmonic (f/2) and the second harmonic (2f) waves are found to be dominant nonlinear components for an incident toneburst signal of frequency f. To explain the observed nonlinear behavior a partially closed crack is modeled by planar half interfaces that can account for crack parameters such as crack opening displacement and crack surface conditions. The simulation results show reasonable agreements with the experimental results.
