  • In this paper, we compute the images of homotopy groups of various classical Lie groups under the homomorphisms induced by the natural projections from those groups to irreducible symmetric spaces of classical type. We identify that those computations are certain lower bounds of Gottlieb groups of irreducible symmetric spaces. We use the lower bounds to compute some Gottlieb groups.

  • In this paper we prove that the alternating groups A_n, for n = p, p+1, p+2 and symmetric groups $S_n$, for n = p, p+1, where p$\ge$3 is a prime number, can be uniquely determined by their order components. As one of the important consequence of this characterization we show that the simple groups An, where n = p, p+1, P+2 and p$\ge$3 is prime, satisfy in Thompson's conjecture and Shi's conjecture.

  • In the present paper, we describe the action of isometry groups of 30dimensional weakly symmetric spaces and classify 3-dimensional connected weaky symmetric spaces. Further, we determine 3-dimensional weakly symmetric spaces in terms of the eigen- values of the Ricci transformation.

  • The concept of Cayley-symmetric semigroups is introduced, and several equivalent conditions of a Cayley-symmetric semigroup are given so that an open problem proposed by Zhu [19] is resolved generally. Furthermore, it is proved that a strong semilattice of self-decomposable semigroups $S_{\alpha}$ is Cayley-symmetric if and only if each $S_{\alpha}$ is Cayley-symmetric. This enables us to present more Cayley-symmetric semi-groups, which would be non-regular. This result extends the main result of Wang [14], which stated that a regular semigroup is Cayley-symmetric if and only if it is a Clifford semigroup. In addition, we discuss Cayley-symmetry of Rees matrix semigroups over a semigroup or over a 0-semigroup.

  • Let G be a group and $\mathbb{C}$ the field of complex numbers. Suppose ${\sigma}:G{\rightarrow}G$ is an endomorphism satisfying ${{\sigma}}({{\sigma}}(x))=x$ for all x in G. In this paper, we first determine the central solution, f : G or $G{\times}G{\rightarrow}\mathbb{C}$, of the functional equation $f(xy)+f({\sigma}(y)x)=2f(x)+2f(y)$ for all $x,y{\in}G$, which is a variant of the quadratic functional equation. Using the central solution of this functional equation, we determine the general solution of the functional equation f(pr, qs) + f(sp, rq) = 2f(p, q) + 2f(r, s) for all $p,q,r,s{\in}G$, which is a variant of the equation f(pr, qs) + f(ps, qr) = 2f(p, q) + 2f(r, s) studied by Chung, Kannappan, Ng and Sahoo in [3] (see also [16]). Finally, we determine the solutions of this equation on the free groups generated by one element, the cyclic groups of order m, the symmetric groups of order m, and the dihedral groups of order 2m for $m{\geq}2$.

  • In this paper, we are interested in left invariant flat affine structures on Lie groups. These structures has been studied by many authors in different contexts. One of the fundamental questions is the existence of complete affine structures for solvable Lie groups G, raised by Minor [15]. But recently Benoist answered negatively even for the nilpotent case [1]. Also moduli space of such structures for lower dimensional cases has been studied by several authors, sometimes with compatible metrics [5,10,4,12].

  • The main aim of this article is to study symmetric (v, k, ${\lambda}$) designs admitting a flag-transitive and point-primitive automorphism group G whose socle is PSU(3, q). We indeed show that such designs must be complete.
