Leverage Measures in Nonlinear Regression

  • Measures of leverage in nonlinear regression models are discussed by extending the leverage in linear regression models. The connection between measures of leverage and nonlinearity of the models are explored. Illustrative example based on real data is presented.

Kyphotic Angle Measurement Accuracy for Vertebral Osteoporotic Compression Fracture; Reliable Method for Kyphotic Angle Measurement

  • Objective : Having a reliable and reproducible measurement technique to measure the sagittal contour in vertebral fractures is paramount to clinical decision making. This study is designed to determine the most reliable measurement technique in osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture. Methods : Fifteen lateral radiographs of thoracic and lumbar fractures were selected and measured on two separate occasions by three spine surgeons using six different measurement techniques [Centroid, Harrison Posterior Tangent Methods and 4 different types of modified Cobb method]. The radiograph quality was assessed and the center beam location was determined. Statistical analysis including ANOVA for repeated measures was carried out using the SAS software [v 8.0]. Results : The inter and intraobserver variance of the Cobb method 4 and Harrison posterior tangent method were significantly lower than the other four methods. The intraobserver correlation coefficients were the most consistent using the Cobb method 4 [0.982]. which was followed by the Harrison posterior tangent [0.953] and Cobb methods 1 [0.874]. The intraobserver agreement [% of repeated measures within 5 degrees of the original measurement] ranged from 42% to 98% for each technique for all three observers, with the Cobb method 4 showing the best agreement [97.8%] followed by the Harrison posterior tangent method [937%]. Conclusion : The Cobb method-4 and Harrison posterior tangent methods, when applied to measuring the kyphosis, are reliable and have a similar small error range. The Cobb method 4 shows the best overall reliability. However, the centroid method and Cobb method using a fractured endplate do not produce an accurate result due to inter and intraobserver differences in determining the baseline.

Effects of curvature on leverage in nonlinear regression

  • The measures of leverage in linear regression has been extended to nonlinear regression models. We consider several curvature measures of nonlinearity in an estimation situation. The relationship between measures of leverage and statistical curvature are explored in nonlinear regression models. The circumstances under which the Jacobian leverage reduces to a tangent plane leverage are discussed in connection with the effective residual curvature of the nonlinear model.

운전자 작업부하를 고려한 최장 허용 직선길이 결정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Evaluating Length Limit in Tangent Section of Highway Based on Driver's Workload)

  • 본 연구에서는 직선도로와 일반도로 구간을 운전하는 운전자의 각성변화비교와 적정한 도로의 직선길이를 알아보기 위하여 10명의 피실험자를 대상으로 실제 운전 중에 운전자의 좌우측 전두엽과 후두염의 뇌파를 측정하였다. 수집된 Data를 FFT(Fast Fourier Transform)분석에 대해 상대 파워스펙트럼 값을 구하였으며 $\beta$파의 값을 중심으로 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 얻은 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째 운전자의 각성수준 치를 측정하여 새로운 최대 허용 직선길이 기준정립에 활용가능한 방법론을 제시하였다. 둘째 직선구간을 주행하는 경우 일반구간 주행보다 각성정도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다 특히, 운전 중 운전자의 각성을 가장 잘 설명하는 것으로 알려진 후두염에서는 현저한 각성의 감소가 일어났다. 일반구간은 0.821, 직선구간은 2.219로 직선구간에서 약 3배정도의 각성치가 낮아져서 운전자의 운전능력이 현저하게 떨어지는 것으로 평가되었다. 셋째, 운전자 각성수준은 직선도로 진입 후 4.2km지점에 0.428로 나타나 통계적으로 유의한 수준으로 각성이 크게 감소되었으나 3.6km가지는 운전자의 각성수준이 유의한 수준으로 감소하지 않고 있다. 넷째 따라서 20~30대 남성을 대상으로 한 실험조건에서 직선구간의 최장 허용 길이를 기존의 설계속도의 20배로 규정한 2.0km 값보다는 설계속도의 30배인 3.0km로 완화하여도 운전자의 운전능력에 부정적인 영향이 없을 것으로 판단되었다.

  • Let $0 < \alpha < 2$ and let $T_\alpha (\theta) = \alpha tan(\theta/2)$. $T_\alpha$ has an attractive fixed point at $\theta = 0$. We denote by $C(\alpha)$ the set of points in $I = [-\pi, \pi]$ which are not attracted to $\theta = 0$ by the succesive iterations of $T_\alpha$. That is, $C(\alpha)$ is the set of points in I where the dynamics of $T_\alpha$ is chaotic.

  • Wood-plastic composites (WPC) are gaining market share in the building industry because of durability/maintenance advantages of WPC over traditional wood products and because of the removal of chromated copper arsenate (CCA) pressure-treated wood from the market. In order to ensure continued market share growth, WPC manufacturers need greater focus on reliability, quality, and cost. The reliability methods outlined in this paper can be used to improve the quality of WPC and lower manufacturing costs by reducing raw material inputs and minimizing WPC waste. Statistical methods are described for analyzing stiffness (tangent modulus of elasticity: MOE) and flexural strength (modulus of rupture: MOR) test results on sampled WPC panels. Descriptive statistics, graphs, and reliability plots from these test data are presented and interpreted. Sources of variability in the MOE and MOR of WPC are suggested. The methods outlined may directly benefit WPC manufacturers through a better understanding of strength and stiffness measures, which can lead to process improvements and, ultimately, a superior WPC product with improved reliability, thereby creating greater customer satisfaction.

  • Track geometry consists of tangent and curved lines, which caused undesirable changes in initial track geometry by traffic loads. The bigger the changes are, the worse the riding comfort and running stability of train. This is so-called track irregularity and is the most important quality parameters of ballasted track. To be able to objectively assess track irregularity, track geometry should be able to be measured. Practically, railway companies use moving chord method, this method determine versine values via a chord. The versine is the vertical distance to curve measured in the middle of the chord. This type of method measures only versine of track irregularity curve by transfer function from specific property of measuring tool. In this report, review the characteristics of two types of measuring tools by comparing the measurements. The one is GRP-1000 system, optical surveying system with Total station and lazar prism trolly. This calculates track geometry by surveying absolute coordinates of two points each on both rail heads. The other is Trackmaster, measures versine with 2m of chord length.

교량의 선박충돌 에너지 산정 (Estimation of Ship Collision Energy with Bridge)

  • The kinetic energy during ship collision with bridge piers is released as the permanent deformations of structure and friction between the impact surfaces. So the ship collision energy is estimated from the equations of motions for ship-pier collisions which include the influence of the surrounding water, different impact angles and impact locations. The normal impact energy and tangent impact energy at a collision location and angle can be transformed into the normal impact force and friction force acting on the structure. Also the kinetic energy after collisions is calculated from the linear and angular impulse of ship collisions. The collision energy absorption system such as the protective structures for bridges is designed by evaluating the damage portions of ship and structure during the ship-structure collisions varying from the soft impact to hard impact and then the estimation of it will be suited for the design of protective measures.

연속 가압방식의 맥파 측정방법을 위한 시작점 검출 알고리즘 개발 (Novel Detection Algorithm of The Upstroke of Pulse Waveform for Continuously Varying Contact Pressure Method)

  • 본 논문에서는 연속 가압방식으로 측정된 맥파 신호의 분석에 적합한 시작점 검출 알고리즘을 제안한다. 연속 가압방식은 가압의 크기를 조금씩 증가시키면서 맥파 신호를 측정하는 방식인데 이를 이용하면 가압크기에 대응하는 맥파 신호의 분해능이 크게 향상되기 때문에 현재 상용맥진기의 맥파 측정방식인 단계별 가압방식의 정확성과 신뢰성 문제를 해결할 수 있다. 시작점 검출을 위해서 고속 푸리에 변환을 이용한 주기계산, Center-to-edges 방법의 피크 검출, 기저선 보정, 접선 교점 방법에 의한 시작점 검출, 분석 구간 설정을 순차적으로 적용한 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 30명의 피험자를 대상으로 실험한 결과 제안된 알고리즘의 정확도는 99.46%, 민감도는 99.51%로 나타났는데 이는 기존 알고리즘보다 정확도 4.82%, 민감도 2.46%가 향상된 결과이다. 본 연구에서 제안한 연속 가압방식의 맥파 측정방법과 맥파 시작점 검출 알고리즘을 사용한다면 맥파 특징점의 정확한 검출은 물론 허실맥이나 부침맥 등의 맥상 판별 정확성을 높일 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
