  • A new type of dye-sensitized solar cells(DSCs) based on Ti-mesh electrode without using TCO layer is fabricated for high-efficient low-cost solar cell application. The TCO-less DSCs sample is composed of a [glass/ dye sensitized $TiO_2$ layer/ Ti-mesh electrode/ electrolyte/ metal counter electrode]. The Ti-mesh electrode with high conductivity can collect electrons from the $TiO_2$ layer and allows the ionic diffusion of $I^-/I_3^-$ through the mesh hole. Thin Ti-mesh ($\sim40{\mu}m$ in thickness) electrode material is processed using rapid prototype method. Electrical performance of as-fabricated DSCs is presented and discussed in detail.

  • Recently, due to the erosion damage that were generated increasingly at alloy metals of slide bearing by cavity of lubricating oil with tendency of high speed and high output of reciprocating engine, there is a need to study the process on the formation of cavitation erosion, and the characteristic of cavitation erosion at lubricating oil environments under various condition for marine ship. Therefore, the apparatus of cavitation erosion experiment used 20 KHz, $24 \mu m$ piezoelectric vibrator. The main results obtained through this test method are as follows: 1. The max. erosion rate at lubricating oil environments was related to the change of space, oil film thickness, and shown to tendency of gear oil>system oil>turbine oil>mixed oil environments with different viscosity. 2. The pitted hole by cavitation erosion at high viscosity oil environments became small and deep, and in addition to, they appeared to be wide and shallow at low viscosity.

  • In this work, TCO-less dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) using Ti-mesh layer is fabricated for high-efficient low-cost solar cell application. The Ti-mesh metal can replace TCO in the photo-electrode part of DSCs, thus the cell structure is composed of a glass/dye sensitized TiO2 particle/ Ti-mesh layer/electrolyte/Pt sputtered counter electrode/ glass. The efficiency of prepared TCO-less DSCs sample is about 1.45 % ((ff: 0.5, Voc: 0.52V, Jsc: 5.55 $mA/cm^2$).

  • A theoretical model for the evaluation of small surface fatigue crack initiated from a pit-type surface flaw is presented. The low frequency scattering model is developed based on the reciprocity principle for the elastic wave scattering. The effect of the flaw on the surface wave reflection from the crack is taken into account approximately by means of the stress intensity factor of cracks on a through thickness hole. The reflection coefficient of surface wave is derived for the prediction of small surface crack depth. Calculated results for pits with different sizes are illustrated.

  • This paper is studied on the Junctiion of the large tank and the cylinderical outlet such as a pressure vessel attached a pipe or nozzle theoretically. It is assumed that the diameter of tank is much larger than that of the nozzle, so it can be approximated that nozzle is attached to plate. The analysis procedure can be viewed as the solution of interdependent subproblems: (a) the stress analysis of the cylinderical shell(nozzle), (b) the plane-stress analysis of the plate membrane problem, and (c) the analysis of the transverse bending deformation in the plate. On the procedure of (a), the Flugge formula are used, and the variables are the length and the ratio of the thickness to the radius of cylinderical shell. The solutions of thess problems are interrelated in the total solution through continuity and equilibrium conditions at the interface of middle planes of the plate and cylinderical shell.

  • Since the material flow near the die part in CONFORM (Continuous Extrusion Forming) process is similar to that of side-extrusion, the side-extrusion model of tube shaped aluminum profiles was studied for the die design in CONFORM process. In this paper, the effects of process parameters in the side -extrusion through a two-hole die face, such as material flow, height and thickness of the tube, velocities of punch and lengths of bearing land were investigated using UBET program and DEFORM commercial FEM code. The optimum lengths of the bearing lands and punch velocities for obtaining the straight shape products required were determined.

  • Ge is a promising candidate to replace Si in MOSFET because of its superior carrier mobility, particular that of the hole. However Ge oxide is thermodynamically unstable. At elevated temperature, GeO is formed at the interface of Ge and GeO2, and its formation increases the interface defect density, degrading its device performance. In search for a method to surmount the problem, we investigated Ge oxidation through an inert capped oxide layer. For this work, we prepared low doped n-type Ge(100) wafer by removing native oxide and depositing a capping layer, and show that GeO2 interface can be successfully grown through the capping layer by thermal oxidation in a furnace. The thickness and quality of thus grown GeO2 interface was examined by ellipsometry, XPS, and AFM, along with I-V and C-V measurements performed at 100K to 300K. We will present the result of our investigation, and provide the discussion on the oxide growth rate, interface state density and electrical characteristics in comparison with other studies using the direct oxidation method.

  • Joints of single-layer latticed domes show various flexural behaviors according to their shapes and connecting methods. Ball joints are relatively easy to apply and build while their rigidities are relatively small and have disadvantage in long span. Welded joints have many advantages in rigidity, internal force and long span. However few experimental studies have been performed. In this paper, improved welded joint for the single layer latticed domes was proposed through both analytical and experimental analyses. Length of inserted plates, thickness of inserted plates and hole of sub steel pipes were selected as parameters for experimental comparisons and defining the effects of the selected variables.

  • For precise stress analysis of pressure vessel nozzle junction area, it should be modelized as a cylindrical shell with a cylindrical outlet attached on it, but because of its geometrical complexity, exact analysis and solution is very difficult to obtain. So, when the nozzle diameter is small compared to that of vessel, it is general to simplify the model as a flat plate with a cylinder. As the current nozzle shape is manufactured as "Through Type" to reduce the stress concentration around the nozzle junction part of pressure vessel, a theoretical analysis on the cylinder with finite length should be performed to accomodate this fact. In this paper, the general solutions which were obtained by applying Fulgge's theory to the finite length cylinder, membrane and bending theory to the flat plate were superposed to analyze the model. Each theoretical optimal values were obtained through the analysis of stress concentration caused by the variation of cylinder length and thickness, and these results were estimated by performing model experimentation.mentation.

  • Objective: Symptomatic chronic subdural hematoma(CSDH) is a well-known neurosurgical entity and most of the lesion is managed by surgical treatment. The authors analyze the surgical indication and the treatment results of twist drill craniostomy with closed-system drainage(TDD) for the symptomatic CSDH. Methods: From March 2001 through December 2003, 31 patients who were treated with TDD for the symptomatic CSDH and followed more than 6months were included. The radiologic criteria of TDD in this study were 1) homogeneous density of hematoma on computed tomography(CT), 2) no septation of hematoma on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), and 3) thicker hematoma more than twice thickness of skull. Surgical procedures were performed on the maximum thickness of hematoma on CT/MRI. Short and long Steinman pins were used to penetrate the skull and hematoma membrane. As the 5L catheter was inserted through the drill hole, it was kept for 1 - 7days for the drainage of CSDH. The patients of CSDH were followed with clinical symptoms and CT studies. Results: Most of all the 31 patients were improved. However, one patient was suffered from postoperative epidural hematoma and the other patients have received the secondary operation because of the recurrence of CSDH on 3 months after initial surgery. Conclusion: TDD is safe procedure for the symptomatic CSDH if the patients are selected appropriately.
