Characterization of Ag Nanowire Transparent Electrode Fabricated on PVDF Film (PVDF 필름 위에 제작된 고전도도 Ag 나노와이어 투명전극 특성 연구)

  • In this study, we have successfully fabricated a highly conductive transparent electrode using Ag nanowires, based on piezoelectric polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) film, that can be applied as transparent and flexible speakers. The structural morphology of the Ag nanowires was confirmed by a detailed scanning electron microscopy. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy demonstrated that the transparent electrode fabricated by the Ag nanowires exhibited a transmittance of above 70%. The transparent electrode also showed very low sheet resistance with high flexibility. We have further developed an anti-oxidation coating layer by using a tetraethyl orthosilicate-poly trimethyloxyphenylsilane (TEOS-PTMS) slurry technique. It was confirmed that the transmittance and sheet resistance of the antioxidant film depends critically on the humidity of the film surface. We believe such Ag nanowire electrodes are a very promising next-generation transparent electrode technology that can be used in future flexible and transparent devices.

Tribological Behavior of Whiteware with Different Transparent Glazes

  • Tribological properties of whiteware with various transparent glazes, which have different composition and microstructure, were investigated. The wear resistance and friction behavior of the glazed whiteware are a very important aspect if the whiteware is used as tableware and for sanitation purposes. Generally, the wear property is influenced by the microstructure and surface morphology of the material. The whiteware specimens with two kinds of transparent glazes were fabricated by using the commercially available porcelain body. Furthermore, the commercial tableware, such as bone china, and traditional tableware were also examined as reference materials. All of the specimens showed that different pore structures might affect the mechanical and tribological properties. It seems that the wear resistance of whiteware is substantially related to the pore size and distribution of glaze rather than the hardness value of the specimen.

Optical Properties of Y3Al5O12;Ce3+,Pr3+ Transparent Ceramic Phosphor for High Power White Lighting (고출력 백색 광원용 Y3Al5O12;Ce3+,Pr3+ 투명 세라믹 형광체의 광학특성)

  • We prepared $Y_3Al_5O_{12};Ce^{3+},Pr3^{+}$ transparent ceramic phosphor using a solid state reaction method. By XRD pattern analysis and SEM measurement, our phosphors reveal an Ia-3d(230) space group of cubic structure, and the transparent ceramic phosphor has a polycrystal state with some internal cracks and pores. In the Raman scattering measurement with an increasing temperature, lattice vibrations of the transparent ceramic phosphor decrease due to its more perfect crystal structure and symmetry. Thus, low phonon generation is possible at high temperature. Optical properties of the transparent ceramic phosphor have broader excitation spectra due to a large internal reflection. There is a wide emission band from the green to yellow region, and the red color emission between 610 nm and 640 nm is also observed. The red-yellow phosphor optical characteristics enable a high Color Rendering Index (CRI) in combination with blue emitting LED or LD. Due to its good thermal properties of low phonon generation at high temperature and a wide emission range for high CRI characteristics, the transparent ceramic phosphor is shown to be a good candidate for high power solid state white lighting.

  • The basic characteristics of glass are highly fragile and brittle consequences the ultimate purpose of glass manufacturing is to make a transparent glass with complex shape. In order to solve this problem, mechanical properties of glass can be increased by crystallization of its amorphous glass. However, glass-ceramics has become opaque through crystallization process due to the distracted interface of glass by precipitated particles. This study has been investigated thermal processing conditions of LAS transparent glass-ceramic by using DTA (differential thermal analysis), in order to control size of precipitated particle and then fabricate transparent glass-ceramic. DTA indicated that crystallization peak area was declined with increased nucleation temperature. Subsequently, we have been established optimum temperature for crystallization depending on the nucleation temperature. The transmission and thermal expansion were measured after crystallization, and the size of precipitated particle was identified in range of 20~100 nm by FE-SEM. In addition, by setting the optimized crystallization condition, with high transmission and low thermal expansion glass was synthesized through this experiment.

  • To fabricate mono layer green sheet (MLGS) of transparent dielectric for PDP front panel, dispersion of transparent dielectric slurry and various properties of green sheets were examined as a function of amount and kinds of organic additives. Sedimentation height and viscosity of slurry were measured to determine proper types and amount of dispersant in non-aqueous system transparent dielectric slurry. Many MLGS having various ratios of the transparent dielectric glass frit, binder and plasticizer were fabricated. Finally we got the transparent dielectric layer of high transparency and free from residual pore might be remained in the gap between the electrodes.

Transparent Ceramics for Visible/IR Windows: Processing, Materials and Characterization

  • Visible and IR windows require a combination of high optical transparency and superior thermal and mechanical properties. Materials, fabrication and characterization of transparent ceramics for visible/IR windows are discussed in this review. The transparent polycrystalline $Y_2O_3$, $Y_2O_3-MgO$ nanocomposites and $MgAl_2O_4$ spinel ceramics are fabricated by advanced ceramic processing and the use of special sintering technologies. Ceramic processing conditions for achieveing fully densified transparent ceramics are strongly dependent on the initial powder characteristics. In addition, appropriate use of sintering technologies, including vacuum sintering, hot-pressing and spark plasama sintering methods, results in outstanding thermal and mechanical properties as well as high optical transparency of the final products. Specifically, the elimination of light scattering factors, including residual pores, second phases and grain boundaries, is a key technique for improving the characteristics of the transparent ceramics. This paper discusses the current research issues related to synthesis methods and sintering processes for yttria-based transparent ceramics and $MgAl_2O_4$ spinel.

Fabrication of Transparent Dielectric Green Sheet for Plasma Display Panel (PDP 투명유전체 형성용 Green Sheet 제조)

  • To fabricate green sheet of transparent dielectric for PDP front panel, dispersion of transparent dielectric slurry, density, and mechanical properties of green sheets have been investigated as a function of amount and composition of organic additives. Measurements of sedimentation and viscosity were employed to determine a proper dispersant and its amount for a well dispersed transparent dielectric powders in non-aqueous system. Green sheets, having various ratios of transparent dielectric powders to transparent dielectric powders+ binder+plasticizer and binder to binder+plasticizer, were fabricated. All the tape casting slurries showed shear thinning effect, that is, the apparent viscosity decreased with the increase of shear rate. It was found that the amount and composition of organic additives were main variables to affect densities and mechanical properties of transparent dielectric green sheets for PDP.

Hydrothermal Synthesis of Red-Emitting Y(V0.5,P0.5)O4:Eu Nanophosphors and their Application to Transparent Plasma Display Fabrication (적색발광 Y(V0.5,P0.5)O4:Eu 나노형광체의 수열 합성 및 투명 플라즈마 디스플레이 소자 제작으로의 응용)

  • Transparent plasma display can be realized by developing the synthetic chemistry of appropriate nanophosphors and generating nanophosphor-based transparent luminescent layers. For this goal, red-emitting $Y(V_{0.5},\;P_{0.5})O_4$:Eu nanophosphors were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal route at $200^{\circ}C$ for 48 h and the resulting nanophosphors were subsequently annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ at an ambient atmosphere. The crystallographic structure, morphology, and emission property of the as-synthesized and annealed nanophosphors were compared. Choosing 2-methoxyethanol as a dispersion medium and applying a standard sonication, well-dispersed nanophosphor solutions could be prepared. Using these dispersions, visible transparent nanophosphor layers were spin-deposited on glass substrates. By combining $Y(V_{0.5},\;P_{0.5})O_4$:Eu nanophosphor layer/glass substrate as a rear plate with a front plate used in a conventional plasma display panels (PDPs), mini-sized transparent red-emitting PDPs were constructed. Transmittance and luminance properties of two transparent test panels using as-synthesized versus $800^{\circ}C$-annealed nanophosphors were characterized and compared.

Electrical properties of Indium Zinc Tin tummy Transparent Conducting Oxide which doped impurities (Indium Zinc Tin turnary Transparent Conducting Oxide에서의 dopant 첨가에 따른 전기적 특성)

  • 본 연구에선 ITO에 사용되는 Indium의 양을 줄이기 위해 ITO와 유사한 성질을 보이는 조성인 Indium - Zinc - Tin Turnary compound를 연구하였다. 각 조성은 Indium - Zinc - Tin Turnary compound를 기본으로 하여 Zinc site에 이종원소인 Al2O3와 Ga2O3를 doping함에 따라 변화되는 전기적 특성을 살며보았다. 분석에 사용한 Ceramic pellet은 일반적인 Ceramic process를 거쳐 제작되었다. 각 조성의 전기적 특성은 TCR meter와 Hall effect analyser를 이용하여 측정하였고, X-ray diffraction measurements(XRD), Scanning Electron microscope(SEM)를 이용하여 결정학적 특성을 분석하였다.
