  • Recent development in visual sensor technologies has encouraged various researches on adding imaging capabilities to sensor networks. Video data are bigger than other sensor data, so it is essential to manage the amount of image data efficiently. In this paper, a new method of video traffic estimation is proposed for efficient traffic management of visual sensor networks. In the proposed method, a first order autoregressive model is used for modeling the traffic with the consideration of the characteristics of video traffics acquired from visual sensors, and a Kalman filter algorithm is used to estimate the amount of video traffics. The proposed method is computationally simple, so it is proper to be applied to sensor nodes. It is shown by experimental results that the proposed method is simple but estimate the video traffics exactly by less than 1% of the average.

  • The mobile and multimedia service on wireless network have been leaded from the improvement of telecommunication techniques. A typical multimedia service, a video transmission usually requires larger bandwidth than voice transmission. Many channel allocation algorithms for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFBMA) to use resources more efficiently, Previous channel allocation algorithms have developed with an assumption that the data traffic is constant bit rate (CBR). However, existing algorithms are not suitable to video traffic because it usually generates a variable bit rate (VBR) traffic. In this paper, we proposed a new channel allocation algorithm called a queue-based channel allocation. it is more suitable to transmit the video traffics. Also, a problem are notified in case of realtime generated video traffic and a corresponding heuristic solution was proposed.

  • Many recent studies have been conducted involving the transport of constant and variable bit rate MPEG-2 video in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks. In this study, the traffic control of supporting MPEG-2 video communications in ATM networks under unloaded or loaded network conditions, in which the generated traffic sources are bursty in nature, are considered. We analyse about MPEG-2 traffic and design a model, which makes use of the ATM OAM funcation in order to support the traffic control functions. To implement the model, we propose a scheme, which combines the performance management OAM function and the bandwidth allocation function. Especially, we design this scheme to control the VBR (Variable Bit Rate)MPEG-2 video traffic.

  • It is generally recognized that Video On Demand (VOD) service will become a promising interactive service in B-ISDN. We consider a hierarchical two level network architecture for VOD service. The first level consists of connected Local Video Servers(LVSs) in which a limited number of high vision programs are stored. The second level has one Central Video Server(CVS) containing all the programs served in the network. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the network traffic and to propose the storage policy for LVSs. For this purpose, we present an analysis of program storage amount in each LVS, transmission traffic volume between LVSs, and link traffic volume between CVS and LVSs, according to changing the related factors such as demand, the number of LVSs is also presented on the basis of the tradeoffs among program storage cost, link traffic cost, and transmission cost.

  • A variable bit-rate based video services have much limitation for bandwidth management, since its trarfic has a some variances in frame level. In particular, the bandwidth management for video which has characteristics of VBR traffic such a MPEG video could be more complicated. Also, it is difficult to manage the bandwidth effectively for proving a VCR function from VOD service, since we don't know the traffic variance exactly at that time. In this paper, we proposed the dynamic bandwidth allocation a scheme based on VBR traffic based stored video such as MPEG for interactive video service. This scheme can maximize the given total bandwidth through the prefetch based variable length bandwidth allocation scheme and dynamic bandwidth management scheme for multiple streams. Also, our scheme can be used for a MPEG-based bandwidth allocation scheme, and provides the method that can maximize the utilization of network resource for multiple stream by using a dynamic bandwidth management.

  • Traffic congestion is a severe problem in many modern cities around the world. Real-time and accurate traffic congestion identification can provide the advanced traffic management systems with a reliable basis to take measurements. The most used data sources for traffic congestion are loop detector, GPS data, and video surveillance. Video based traffic monitoring systems have gained much attention due to their enormous advantages, such as low cost, flexibility to redesign the system and providing a rich information source for human understanding. In general, most existing video based systems for monitoring road traffic rely on stationary cameras and multiple vehicle tracking method. However, most commonly used multiple vehicle tracking methods are lack of effective track initiation schemes. Based on the motion of the vehicle usually obeys constant velocity model, a novel vehicle recognition method is proposed. The state of recognized vehicle is sent to the GM-PHD filter as birth target. In this way, we relieve the insensitive of GM-PHD filter for new entering vehicle. Combining with the advanced vehicle detection and data association techniques, this multiple vehicle tracking method is used to identify traffic congestion. It can be implemented in real-time with high accuracy and robustness. The advantages of our proposed method are validated on four real traffic data.

  • The arrangement of I-picture starting times of multiplexed variable bit .ate (VBR) MPEG videos may significantly affect the cell loss ratio (CLR) characteristics of the multiplexed traffic. This paper presents an efficient I-picture arrangement method which can minimize the CLR of the multiplexed traffic when multiple VBR MPEG videos are multiplexed onto a single constant bit rate link. In the proposed method, we use the probability that the arrival rate exceeds the link capacity as the measure for the CLR of the multiplexed traffic. Simulation results show that the proposed method can find more optimal arrangement than existing methods in respect of the CLR.

Abstract All of the multimedia applications such as VOD, teleconferencing, and tele-lecturing invoke multimedia traffic like video or audio traffic. The most important characteristic of these multimedia traffic is the burstiness property. So, bandwidth management is becoming the major part of network management. In this paper, we propose a new and efficient bandwidth management technique called bandwidth smoothing for the multicasting on-line video applications. Our bandwidth smoothing technique reduces as much of the network bandwidth required to transmit on-line video traffic as previously proposed methods, and improves the server's resource utilization especially for the multicast on-line video services.

  • Recent studies on the Constant Bit Rate and Variable Bit Rate transmissions have mainly focused on the frame by frame encoder rate control based on the quantization parameter. With the existing approaches it is difficult to guarantee a consistent video quality. Also, the rate control overhead is too high for the real-time video sources. In this paper, a channel rate allocation scheme based on the control period is proposed to transmit a real-time video, in which the control period is defined by a pre-specified number of frames or group of pictures. At each control period, video traffic information is collected to determine the channel rate at the next control period. The channel rate is allocated to satisfy various channel rate constraints such that the buffer occupancy at the decoder is maintained at a target level. If the allocated channel rate approaches the level at which the negotiated traffic descriptions may be violated, the encoder rate is decreased through adjusting quantization parameters in the MPEG encoder. In the experimental results, the video quality and the overflow and underflow probabilities at the buffer are compared at different control periods. Experiments show that the video quality and the utilization of network bandwidth resources can be optimized through the suitable selection of the control period.

  • A fast and accurate integrated traffic object detection framework was proposed and developed, harnessing a computer-vision based deep-learning approach performing automatic object detections, a multi object tracking technology, and video pre-processing tools. The proposed method is capable of detecting traffic object such as autos, buses, trucks and vans from video recordings taken under a various kinds of external conditions such as stability of video, weather conditions, video angles, and counting the objects by tracking them on a real-time basis. By creating plausible experimental scenarios dealing with various conditions that likely affect video quality, it is discovered that the proposed method achieves outstanding performances except for the cases of rain and snow, thereby resulting in 98% ~ 100% of accuracy.
