We developed a surface washing system for ginseng. The washing system was developed using different treatments and conditions and characterized in terms of product hardness, weight loss, and change in temperature and color. Optimal results were obtained using a surface washing system involving a washing conveyor speed of 1.0 L/min, a water pressure of $35\;kg/cm^2$, a washing nozzle angle of $40^{\circ}$, a washing height of 5 cm, a 1-sec reciprocating washing nozzle cycle, a dehydration wind velocity of 30 m/sec, and an internal drying temperature of $30-33^{\circ}C$. A surface washing system using a washing conveyor speed of0.8 L/min, a water pressure of $40\;kg/cm^2$, a washing nozzle angle of $40^{\circ}$, a washing height of 3 cm, a 1-sec reciprocating washing nozzle cycle, a dehydration wind velocity of 30 m/sec, and an internal drying temperature of $30-33^{\circ}C$ resulted in ginseng that was stained yellow.

Purpose: This study was done to develop data for a hygiene promotion program for elders living on rural islands. Method: Self-administered questionnaires were used to collect data. Results: Most of the elders reported brushed their teeth and washing their faces twice a day. For other types of washing, 98.8% of reported washing their hands after the toilet and 22.8% reported washing their anus after defecation. Most of the elders reported changing their underwear two to three times a month and cutting their nails more than four times a month. Itchiness was reported by 24%. There were significant differences according to age for teeth brushing, face washing, shampooing, bathing, washing hands after the toilet, and cutting nails. According to sex, there were significant differences in teeth brushing, face washing, washing hands after using the toilet, washing anus after defecation, changing underwear, cutting nails, and feeling itchy. The elders showed significant differences in bathing, changing underwear, and cutting nails according to subjective economic status. They showed significant differences in teeth brushing and changing underwear when they lived with their families. Conclusion: In order to develop a proper hygiene promotion program for the elderly, their age, sex, and physical condition should be considered as well as their environmental, economical, and geographical condition.

This study focuses on the optimal washing conditions for dry cleaning recommended fabrics to minimize dimensional changes using wet cleaning. We suggest water-based alternatives to a perchloroethylene based cleaning process. Wool and rayon fabrics were laundered under various washing conditions and then air-dried for 24hrs. All specimens were extended after spinning and shrunk after drying. This is probably because the fibers were swollen and extended by wetting. The wool fabrics were shown to be acutely influenced by washing temperature and mechanical force. The optimal washing conditions for wool fabric to minimize the dimensional change implied a normal washing temperature and minimized mechanical force. For rayon specimens, dimensional change by a hand wash showed a remarkable decrease compared with a machine wash. Rayon fabric seemed to be influenced by the quantity of water contained in the fabric after spinning and washing time. Therefore, the desirable washing conditions for rayon fabric are to reduce the time required for washing and to increase the spin speed.
Silk fabric treated with fluorocarbon resins (Asahi Guard AG-7005 and AG-E061) were washed and subsequently heat treated varying the washing cycles and the temperature. After the processing, the water and oil repellencies, and contact angle to water were evaluated. The water and oil repellencies decreased by the washing and recovered by following heat treatment. Also ESCA measurement was carried out to investigate the surface chemical composition of the treated fiber. The $F_1s$ intensity of the treated fabric decreased by the washing and recovered by the subsequent heat treatment. On the other hand, the $O_1s$ intensity increased by the washing and decreased by following heat treatment. From the results, it is clear that change of the water and oil repellencies of the silk fabric treated with fluorocarbon resin occurred by the washing and subsequent heat treatment. Considering a change of the water repellency of the silk fabric treated with fluorocarbon resin, it seems likely that the fluoroalkyl group of the fluorocarbon resin rotates from surface to inside of the fiber by the washing to adapt to the hydrophilic circumstance, and the orientation of the fluoroalkyl groups of the resin disturbed by the washing recovers the orientation to the fiber surface after the subsequent heat treatment.
A study on the removal of Pb ion from Pb-contaminated soil was carried out using ex-site extraction process. Tartaric acid (TA) and iminodiacetic acid sodium salt(IDA) as a washing agent were evaluated as a function of concentration reaction time mixing ratio of washing agent and recycling of washing agent. TA showed a better extraction performance than IDA. The optimum washing condition of TA and IDA were in the ratio of 1:15 and 1:20 between soil and acid solution during 1 hr reaction. The total concentrations of Pb ion by TA and IDA at three repeated extraction were 368.8 ppm and 267.5 ppm respectively. The recovery of Pb ion from washing solution was achieved by adding calcium hydroxide and sodium sulfide form the precipitation of lead hydroxide and lead sulfide and optimum amounts of sodium sulfide and calcium hydroxide were 7 g/$\ell$ for the TA washing solution and 4 g/$\ell$, 5g/$\ell$ for the IDA washing solution respectively. The efficiency of recycle for TA and IDA washing solution were 78.8% , 95.1%, and 89.2%, 96.6% at third extractions under $Na_2S$ and $Ca(OH)_2$, respectively.

In typical remediation practices, separate washing systems have to be applied to clean up the soils contaminated with both oil and heavy metals. In this study, we evaluated the efficiency of successive two-stage soil washing in removal of mixed-contaminants from soil matrix. Two-stage soil washing experiments were conducted using different combinations of chemical agent: 1) persulfate oxidation, followed by organic acid washing, and 2) Fenton oxidation, followed by inorganic acid washing. Persulfate oxidation-organic acid washing efficiently removed both organic and inorganic contaminants to meet the regulatory soil quality standard. The average removal rates of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), Cu, Pb, and Zn were 88.9%, 82.2%, 77.5%, and 66.3% respectively, (S/L 1:10, reaction time 1 h, persulfate 0.5 M, persulfate:activator 3:1, citric acid 2 M). Fenton oxidation-inorganic acid washing also gave satisfactory performances to give 89%, 80.9%, 87.1%, and 67.7% removal of TPH, Cu, Pb, and Zn, respectively (S/L 1:10, reaction time 1 hr, hydrogen peroxide 0.3 M, hydrogen peroxide:activator 5:1, inorganic acid 1 M).

Denim washing is processed with different washing techniques such as stone washing, chemical washing, sand washing, and bio washing. Cellulase bio washing can meet environmental regulations that enhance and rectify problems associated with traditional decolorization techniques; however, stone washing needs to be added to the processing because it produces a low decolorization effect. There is also the problem of additional strength reduction. To prevent these problems, a new enzyme for bio washing is required. This study examines the optimum laccase treatment conditions on denim and evaluated the characteristics of laccase-treated denims to establish a database of eco-friendly new decolorization process on denim using a new laccase enzyme. The results show that the optimum conditions of laccase on denim are a pH of 4.0, $30^{\circ}C$, 7% (o.w.f.), and 6 hours in 10 mM of buffer concentration. UV absorbance and HPLC identified isatin coexist with anthranilic acid in solution after laccase treatment on denim. Results of the surface color, the surface morphology and the tensile strength indicate that laccase treatment shows an excellent decolorization effect without fiber damage. The wet cleaning fastness and the perspiration fastness also improved.
PURPOSES : The purpose of this paper is to analyze the change in lane reflection performance through lane washing and sweeping on highway lanes. METHODS : This paper compared and analyzed the changes in lane reflection performance before and after lane washing and sweeping. The research method was as follows. First, we selected four research sites on the Gyeong-bu Highway. Second, the parameters affecting lane reflection performance are classified into luminance, brightness, and number of glass beads. Third, the change in reflection performance was measured after washing /sweeping at the same place after studying 60m of the unwashed/unswept area. Fourth, the measurement results were compared and analyzed before and after lane washing/sweeping. RESULTS : The results of this study are as follows. First, lane washing improved the luminance and brightness by 4.2~21.4% and 1.4~5.1%, respectively, and reduced the number of glass beads per wash by 0.2~1.2%. Second, lane sweeping improved the luminance and brightness by 2.3~8.5% and 0.8~2.3%, respectively, and reduced the number of glass beads per sweep by 0.8~4.9%. CONCLUSIONS : By comparing the results of lane washing and sweeping, it was found that compared to lane sweeping, lane washing improved the luminance and fewer glass beads were dropped.
The functionality such as deodorant, antibacterial, ultraviolet shielding of titanium dioxide self-actuated photocatalyst $Weltouch^{TM}$ treated polyester fiber was characterized in conditions without light. The deodorizing capacity was maintained more than 97% reduction irrespective of before washing and after 20 times repeated washing, and antimicrobial capacity was also retained more than 99.9% reduction. Titanium dioxide self-actuated photocatalyst was still maintained to the surface of polyester fiber without separation even after 20 times repeated washing. According to washing durability of polyester fiber, the reduction effect for ammonia was still retained even after 20 times repeated washing as much as before washing. The ultraviolet shielding capacity was still maintained at least 83% irrespective of before washing and 20 times repeated washing.
