  • This study focused on the recycling technology and application of waste polyurethane scrap($5{\sim}7mm$) and waste urethane form from the footware scrap. Firstly we suggest the waste polyurethane can be used as a component of medium for hydroponic rose culture. Secondly, recycled thermoplastic polyurethane(RTPU) was produced and blended it with high impact polystyrene(HIPS). And also, in order to extend application of recycling field, the former was produced with adding the amine foaming agent to RTPU/HIPS alloy. The main purpose of this study is to diverse of the recycling of the waste polyurethane.

  • The preparation of oil absorbent using waste polyurethane was studied. And the effects of shape, size, and contents of waste polyurethane foam was investigated. The waste foam was treated in shape of powder, cube and bar type generated from rigid sandwich panel process. The tests for flexural strength, combustibility, and water absorptivity were carried out to investigate the mechanical and physical properties of the recycled foams. And the cell microstructure was evaluated through Scanning Electron Micrograph. The recycled foam containing powder-shaped underfilled and showed poor properties that was generated through reactivity of the resins and increasing of slurry viscosity. For the recycled foam with the cube and bar-shaped, the underfilling was caused by interference between the waste PUFs and increasing surface areas of PUF. Low cell density, non-uniformity of cell shape and size, and low adhesion of the boundary surface (new/recycled) was showed as a result of the poor properties. Considering underfilling and the properties of PUF (new/recycled), maximum recycle contents were less than 20 wt% for the powder and above 40 wt% for the cube and bar.

  • The production of polyurethane polymer has been increased because of their unique properties and variety process methods available. The generation of their wastes also increases with products. These byproducts of industrialization seriously threaten the environmental demanding. Therefore, development of the recycling technologies have been required. The main propose of this study is to develop the recycling technology of waste polyurethane from a footwear scrap. This technique is composed of the following procedure : crushing, devulcanizing, pelletizing, washing and drying. The pellet was characterized with various methods. The recycled polyurethane(RPU) was blended with HIPS(high impact polystyrene) and investigated morphologically and rheologically. The experimental results showed that the addition of 20% HIPS to RPU was limited without mechanical performance of the superial properties of a virgin polyurethane. We believe that these technical information make possible to develop a rational engineering product.

  • The subject of this study, Eco-friendly Polyurethane Waterproofing Membrane Coating of Exposed Type is manufactured by replacing environmental hazardous substance such as Toluene, Dioctyl Phthalate with Dimethyl Carbonate, waste-soybean oil. As part of existing filler is also replaced with waste-rubber chip and waste-soybean oil. As a result of environment friendly tests, in test of detection of VOCs case was contented with the Ministry of Environment standards at 5% below. Testing methods for heavy metal extracted was contented with standards for official wastes test method. So it is judged that environment friendly is secured.

  • Recently, the develpment of waterproof techniques has been required in morden building field. It is undoubt that one of the best materials for waterproof is polyurethane. Polyurethanes have advantages such as good adhesive ability, durability, weatherproof. However, they have disadvantages like high cost, delicate varnish layer, swelling problem. In this study, we found that the polyurethane with rubber particle of waste tire can solve those problems. We concluded that 10% of rubber particles containing polyurethane was recommened as the waterproof materials.

  • The kinetics of the thermal-oxidative decomposition of waste polyurethane (PU) according to oxygen concentration has been studied using a non-isothermal thermogravimetric technique at several heating rates from 10 to $50^{\circ}C/min$. A kinetic model accounting for the effects of the oxygen concentration by the differential and integral method based on Arrhenius equation was proposed to describe the thermal-oxidative decomposition of waste PU. To obtain the information on the kinetic parameters such as activation energy, reaction order, and pre-exponential factor, the thermogravimetric analysis curves and its derivatives have been analyzed using the kinetic analysis method proposed in this work. From this work, it was found that reaction orders for oxygen concentration had a negative sign, and activation energy decreased as the oxygen concentration increased. It was also found that the kinetic parameters obtained from the integral method using the single heating rate experiments varied with heating rates. Therefore, it is thought that the differential method using the multiple heating rate experiments more effectively represents the thermal-oxidative decomposition of waste polyurethane.

  • Resource recovery and recycling of materials and products including polyurethanes are viewed as a necessity in today's society. The problems of recycling polyurethane wastes has major technological, economic and ecological significance because polyurethane itself is relatively expensive and its disposal by burning is also costly. In general, the recycling methods for polyurethane could be classified as mechanical, chemical and physical. In the chemical recycling method, there ate hydrolysis, glycolysis, pyrolysis and aminolysis. This study was carried out glycolysis using new method such as sonication and catalyzed reaction. There are kinds of recycled polyols were produced by current method(glycolysis) but, this study were with catalyzed reaction and sonication as decomposers and the chemical properties were analyzed. The reaction results in the formation of polyester urethane diols and then the OH value which is determined by the quantity of diol used for the glycolysis conditions. The glycolysis rates by sonication and catalyzed reaction for the various glycols, increased as: PPG

  • The worldwide use of polyurethane foam products generates large amounts of waste, which in turn has detrimental effects on the surroundings. Hence, finding an economical and environmentally friendly way to dispose of or recycle foam waste is an utmost priority for researchers to overcome this problem. In that sense, the glycolysis of waste flexible polyurethane foam (WFPF) from automotive seat cushions using different industrial-grade glycols and potassium hydroxide as a catalyst to produce recovered polyol was investigated. The effect of different molecular weight polyols, catalyst concentration, and material ratio (PU foam: Glycols) on the reaction conversion and viscosity of the recovered polyols was determined. The obtained recovered polyols are obtained as single or split-phase reaction products. Besides, the foaming characteristics and physical properties such as cell morphology, thermal stability, and compressive stress-strain nature of the regenerated flexible foams based on the recovered polyols were discussed. It was observed that the regenerated flexible foams displayed good seating comfort properties as a function of hardness, sag factor, and hysteresis loss compared to the reference virgin foam. With the growing demand for a sustainable and circular economy, a global valorization of glycolysis products from polyurethane scraps can be realized by transforming them into profitable substances.

  • The headliner was made of polyurethane(PU) and glass fiber(GF) composite materials are widely used as a sound insulation material. A large amount of waste materials occurs as a by-product in the headliner manufacturing process. In order to efficiently reuse the headliner waste materials, separation process of the components are very necessary. According to the results of thermal analysis, weight loss showed increase in the order polyurethane foam> non-foaming polyurethane> non-woven fabric> 1st layer> glass fiber in the range of up to $400^{\circ}C$. Analysis of the DSC characteristics, HDPE, LLDPE, PP, and Master Batch by adding additives the wasted scrap. As a result, except for the PP, there was no exothermic transition due to the crystallization.

  • In order to increase a functionality, OH value, for a recycled polyol prepared from the glycolysis reaction of a waste polyurethane rigid foam(PUR), the effect of an addition of pentaerythritol(PEN, functionality(f)=4) or sorbitol(SOR, f=6) to the its glycolysis reactor on the prepared polyol functionality and the mechanical properties of the polyurethane prepared using it was investigated. The OH values increased from 2.2 for a virgin to 2.8 for the recycled polyol. There was an increase in the mechanical properties including dimensional stability for PUR prepared using the recycled polyol, in which the increased OHs provided higher crosslinking density during PUR synthesis. In addition, the amount of the recycled polyol in the polyol system increased to from 8 to 20 wt% to give better mechanical properties to the PUR.
