이 연구에서는 우리나라의 온라인 공공저널리즘에 관한 연구 자체가 단 3건 밖에 없는 상황에서, 그나마 2건이 미국 온라인 공공저널리즘에 관한 연구들이기에, 국내의 온라인 공공저널리즘에 대한 연구의 필요성을 느끼게 되었고, 이런 온라인 공공저널리즘의 역할을 저널리스트나 기획기사가 아닌, 언론사가 그 역할을 수행할 수 있는가에 대한 필요성을 느낀 나머지, 지난 16대 대선 과정에서의 보도를 살펴봄으로써 한국의 온라인 신문이 공공저널리즘의 정책에 관하여 연구하고자 한다.
