This study explored the elements, types, and determining factors of successful aging for the Korean elderly. In order to examine the expectations of the Korean elderly, a sample of 377 elderly aged 65 and over living in Seoul and Kyunggi areas was selected and interviewed. The elements of successful aging that the Korean elderly pointed out in the interviews were: 'peaceful and comfortable life', 'self-maintenance,' 'secure social support,' and 'ostentation.' The expected elements of successful aging were further classified into three types of successful aging: 'idealized expectation.' 'self-centered expectation,' 'balanced self-other expectation.' The elderly groups sorted by the types exhibited significant differences in terms of demographic characteristics, self-evaluated economic status, and self-evaluated health status. The variables that affected the expectations were age, level of education, marital status, gender, and self-evaluated health condition. However, further analysis revealed that the factors that affected the expectation for successful aging were different for male and female elderly. The results suggest that the successful aging of Korean elderly should be understood in the context of Korean society and culture. The results could be used to better understand varied and unique life of Korean elderly, as well as in establishing a basis of intervention that meets the specific demands of the Korean elderly.
Purpose: This study aims to examine the relationship between ego resilience, family resilience, and the perception of successful aging in nursing students; additionally, specific factors relating to the perception of successful aging were identified. Methods: The participants comprised 154 nursing students. Data were collected through the administration of self-reported questionnaires. Data analysis was then performed utilizing a t-test, an ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and a multiple regression analysis. Results: Family resilience differed significantly based on the type of residence (p=.020) (i.e., living with grandparents (p=.048)). Perception of successful aging differed significantly based on grade (p<.001). The perception of successful aging showed a positive correlation relative to mode of communication and organizational pattern. The mode of communication accounted for 4.7% of perception of successful aging. Conclusion: The significance of the study on the importance of mode of communication was confirmed by identifying the effects of the perception of successful aging. Nursing students may actively cope with crises through communication; thus, successfully recognizing aging in order to lead a healthy life. Furthermore, having a high perception of successful aging while treating an increasing number of elderly patients at the clinical practice is believed to have a positive effect on patient care.
The purpose of this study is to look into how elderly people's health promoting behaviors influence their successful aging, to realize how their perception of successful aging and their life satisfaction have the mediating effect on the path from health promotion behaviors to successful aging, and to find the significant influence of successful aging perception and life satisfaction on successful aging. This researcher conducted a questionnaire survey with elderly people using a senior welfare center in Gyeonggio-do, and analyzed 250 copies that. For data analysis, SPSS Win 25 was applied to conduct frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and correlation analysis. Mediating effect analysis was made to verify the causal relations between health promoting behaviors and successful aging, and to validate the mediating effect of successful aging perception and life satisfaction on the causal relations. As a result, elderly people's health promoting behaviors influenced their perception of successful aging, their life satisfaction, and their successful aging. Their perception of successful aging had the mediating effect on health promotional behaviors and successful aging, but life satisfaction did not so. This study has the following implications: it is necessary to train persons specializing in support for health promoting, to develop an efficient health promotional model and program, and to provide an opportunity of education. It is necessary to come up with a support policy in consideration of tangible or intangible factors. It is necessary to establish a policy in line with economic levels and health conditions of elderly people.

Methods: 152 people over 65 years old living in D area were interviewed, from August 1st, 2020 to October 30th, 2020. The outcomes were measured by Psychosocial Well-being Index (PWI), Mini-Memory Test (MiMeT) and successful aging. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Results: There was a positive correlation between successful aging and memory. There was a negative correlation between psychosocial stress and successful aging, and between psychosocial stress and memory. Psychosocial stress was identified as a predictor of successful aging, which explained 26.4% of total variance of successful aging. Conclusions: When we prepare intervention programs which improve successful aging for community-residing older adults, we need to consider psychosocial stress. In addition, stress management programs for successful aging should be developed to improve current successful aging.
