Statement of problem : Fracture and dimensional change of an acrylic resin denture are a rather common occurrence. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare differences in dimensional changes and flexural strength of separate maxillary complete dentures after immediate deflasking by injection molding and conventional compression processing. Material and method: To evaluate dimensional stability, the maxillary dentures were fabricated by using different materials and methods. Lucitone 199(Dentsply Trubyte. york, pennsylvania, USA) and Vertex(Dentimex, zeist, Netherlands) were used as materials. Compression and injection packing methods were used as processing methods. The impression surface of the dentures was measured by 3D Scann-ing System(PERCEPTRON USA) and overlapped original impression surface of the master cast. To evaluate flexural strength, resin specimens were made according to the different materials, powder/liquid ratio and processing methods. Flexural strength of the complete resin specimens (64mm$\times$10mm$\times$3.3mm) were measured by INSTRON 4467. (INSTRON, England) The data was analyzed by ANOVA, t-test and Tukey test. (p<.05 level of significance) Result: The results were as follows 1. There was no significant differences between master model and denture base for each group in overall dimensional changes. 2. Palatal area was more stable than flange or alveolar area in dimensional stability. but. there was no significant differences among each area. 3. Materials and power/liquid ratio had an effect on flexural strength. (P<.05) Especially materials was most effective. (P<.05) 4. Lucitone 199(powder/liquid ratio followed by manufacturer's direction) showed higher flexural strength than Vertex. Conclusion : Dimensional stability or flexural strength are affected by materials rather than packing techniques.
Statement of problem. Although many studies have been carried out to investigate the correlation between the degree of conversion and the flexural strength of composite resins, there is minimal information in the literature attempting to compare degree of conversion, flexural strength and their correlation between restorative composite resins and flowable composite resins. Purpose. The purposes of this study were to measure the degree of conversion and flexural strength of composite resins with different rheological behavior and to correlate the two properties. Materials and methods. Four restorative (Vit-1-escence, Z-250, Tetric ceram, Esthet-X) and four flowable (Aeliteflo, Admiraflow, Permaflo, Revolution) light-curing composite resins were investigated. The degree of conversion(DC) was analyzed with Fourier transfer infra-red spectroscopy(FTIR) spectrum by a potassium bromide(KBr) pellet transmission method. The spectrum of the unpolymerized specimen had been measured before the specimen was irradiated for 60s with a visible light curing unit. The Poiymerized specimen was scanned for its in spectrum. The flexural strength(FS) was measured with 3-point bending test according to ISO 4049 after storage in water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The data were statistically analyzed by an independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA at the significance level of 0.05. The dependence of flexural strength on the degree of conversion was also analyzed by regression analysis. Results. Mean DC and FS values ranged from 43% to 61% and from 84.7MPa to 156.7MPa respectively. DC values of the flowable composite resins were significantly higher than those of restorative composite resins (P < 0.05). The FS values of restorative composite resins were greater than those of flowable composite resins. No statistically significant correlation was observed between the DC and the FS tested in any of the composites. The dependence of FS on DC in restorative or flowable composite resins was not significant. Conclusion. It can be concluded that radical polymerization of the organic matrix is not a major factor in determining flexural strength of the commercially available composite resins.
Objectives: There has been a growing interest in glass ceramic systems with good esthetics, high fracture resistance and bonding durability, and simplified fabrication techniques using CAD/CAM. The aim of this study is to compare flexural strength before and after heat treatment of two lithium disilicate CAD/CAM blocks, IPS e.max CAD (Ivoclar Vivadent) and Rosetta SM (Hass), and to observe their crystalline structures. Materials and Methods: Biaxial flexural strength was tested according to ISO 6872 with 20 disc form specimens sliced from each block before and after heat treatment. Also, the crystalline structures were observed using field-emission scanning microscopy (FE-SEM, Hitachi) and x-ray diffraction (XRD, Rigaku) analysis. The mean values of the biaxial flexural strength were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney U test at a significance level of p = 0.05. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in flexural strength between IPS e.max CAD and Rosetta SM either before heat treatment or after heat treatment. For both ceramics, the initial flexural strength greatly increased after heat treatment, with significant differences (p < 0.05). The FE-SEM images presented similar patterns of crystalline structure in the two ceramics. In the XRD analysis, they also had similar patterns, presenting high peak positions corresponding to the standard lithium metasilicate and lithium disilicate at each stage of heat treatment. Conclusions: IPS e.max CAD and Rosetta SM showed no significant differences in flexural strength. They had a similar crystalline pattern and molecular composition.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of surface polishing and fabrication method on the flexural strength of temporary restorative resin. Materials and Methods: Each of four fabrication methods was used to make 30 temporary restorative resin specimens and the specimens were divided into two groups depending on whether they were polished by mechanical polishing. Specimens were stored in 37℃ thermostat for 24 hours. Flexural strength was measured using a universal testing machine (UTM). The data obtained through the experiment were analyzed with Two-way ANOVA, Tukey's HSD test and Paired t-test. Results: CAD/CAM milling group showed the highest flexural strength regardless of surface polishing. In decreasing order, the flexural strength of the other fabrication method group was as follows SLA 3D printing, DLP 3D printing, and Conventional method group. Conclusion: Surface polishing did not affect flexural strength of the temporary restorative resin (P > 0.05). However, there were statistically significant differences in flexural strength depending on fabrication method (P < 0.05).
In this study, the fabrication conditions of CFRP rebar were controlled to derive the correlation between flexural strength and pore characteristics. The fabrication conditions of CFRP rebar were adjusted for presence or absence of rib, resin temperature, and curing furnace temperature. Flexural strength and pore characteristics of fabricated CFRP rebar were analyzed. The flexural strength of CFRP rebar was changed depending on the fabrication condition, such as the presence or absence of rib, the resin temperature, and the curing furnace temperature. It was confirmed that the flexural strength of CFRP rebar was significantly lowered when the rib was not wound. As a result of Nano X-ray CT analysis, the max. pore diameter was shown in CFRP rebar prepared at a resin temperature of 60℃. According to optical microscopic analysis, the maximum porosity was 6.89% in No. 1, and the minimum porosity was 2.88% in No. 7. The correlation coefficient between porosity used optical microscopy and flexural strength was -0.64, which was higher than the correlation coefficient between porosity or pore size used Nano X-ray CT and flexural strength.

This research aims to assess the flexural bonding efficacy of polymer-cement composites(PCCs) in mending cracks within reinforced concrete(RC) structures. The study involved infilling PCCs into cement mortar cracks of varying dimensions, followed by evaluations of enhancements in flexural adhesion and strength. The findings indicate that the flexural bond performance of PCCs in crack repair is influenced by the cement type, polymer dispersion, and the polymer-to-binder ratio. Specifically, the use of ultra-high early strength cement combined with silica fume resulted in an up to 19.0% improvement in flexural bond strength compared to the application of ordinary Portland cement with silica fume. It was observed that the augmentation in flexural strength of cement mortar filled with PCCs was significantly more dependent on the depth of the crack rather than the width. Furthermore, PCCs not only acted as repair agents but also as reinforcement materials, enhancing the flexural strength to a certain extent. Consequently, this study concludes that PCCs formulated with ultra-high early strength cement, various polymer dispersions, silica fume, and a high polymer-to-binder ratio ranging from 60% to 80% are highly effective as maintenance materials for crack filling in practical settings.

This paper addresses the behavior and strength of structural walls with a concrete compressive strength exceeding 69 MPa. This information also enhances the current database for improvement of design recommendations. The objectives of this investigation are to study the effect of axial-load ratio on seismic behavior of high-strength concrete flexural walls. An analysis has been carried out in order to assess the contribution of deformation components, i.e., flexural, diagonal shear, and sliding shear on total displacement. The results from the analysis are then utilized to evaluate the prevailing inelastic deformation mode in each of wall. Moment-curvature characteristics, ductility and damage index are quantified and discussed in relation with axial stress levels. Experimental results show that axial-load ratio have a significant effect on the flexural strength, failure mode, deformation characteristics and ductility of high-strength concrete structural walls.

Although many structures. with high strength concrete have been recently constructed, the flexural behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete beams with high strength concrete is not exactly defined. This paper presents an experimental study on the flexural strength of the high strength concrete beams. Five large scale beams simply supported were tested and measured. Each beam was loaded by two symmetrical concentrated loads applied at 1.25m from the center of span. The concrete strength, the prestressed force and longitudinal tensile reinforcement ratio vary from beam to beam. From the experimental tests, the flexural strength from tests is larger than the nominal flexural strength of codes. Moreover, the initial crack-load is affected by the prestressed force and the crack width and spacing are controlled by the longitudinal tensile reinforcement ratio.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the bond strength between old and new concrete as well as flexural tensile strength of concrete. To achieve this purpose, a comprehensive experimental program has been set up and strength tests using a series of specimens have been carried out. The present study represents that the flexural bond strength between old and new concrete is much smaller than that of flexural tensile strength. The ratio of bond strength to flexural tensile strength ranged through 15~27%. It is seen that concrete-to-concrete bond strength has been affected by curing condition. Also, test results of tensile strength show that recommendation by ACI 363 committee is estimated to be more realistic than another recommendations for predicting tensile strength of concrete.
PURPOSE. This study inspects the effect of incorporating halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) into polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin on its flexural strength, hardness, and Young's modulus. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Four groups of acrylic resin powder were prepared. One group without HNTs was used as a control group and the other three groups contained 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 wt% HNTs. For each one, flexural strength, Young's modulus and hardness values were measured. One-way ANOVA and Tukey's test were used for comparison (P<.05). RESULTS. At lower concentration (0.3 wt%) of HNT, there was a significant increase of hardness values but no significant increase in both flexural strength and Young's modulus values of PMMA resin. In contrast, at higher concentration (0.6 and 0.9 wt%), there was a significant decrease in hardness values but no significant decrease in flexural strength and Young's modulus values compared to those of the control group. CONCLUSION. Addition of lower concentration of halloysite nanotubes to denture base materials could improve some of their mechanical properties. Improving the mechanical properties of acrylic resin base material could increase the patient satisfaction.
