We proposed an optimum PID controller design method of the Smith Predictor It can be applied to various processes. The real process is approximated via the second order plus time delay model (SOPTD) whose parameters are specified through a model reduction algorithm. We already proposed a new model reduction method that considered four point in the Nyquist curve to reduced the steady state error between the real process model and the reduced model using the gradient decent method and the genetic algorithms. In addition, the Smith predictor is used to compensate time delay of the real process model. In this paper, the new optimum parameter tuning algorithm for PID controller of the Smith Predictor is proposed through ITAE as performance index. The Simulation results show the validity and improvement of performance for various processes.

Theoretical analysis of the depth measurement system with the use of a single camera and a rotating mirror has been done. A camera in front of a rotating mirror acquires a sequence of reflected images, from which depth information is extracted. For an object point at a longer distance, the corresponding pixel in the sequence of images moves at a higher speed. Depth measurement based on such pixel movement is investigated. Since the mirror rotates along an axis that is in parallel with the vertical axis of the image plane, the image of an object will only move horizontally. This eases the task of finding corresponding image points. In this paper, the principle of the depth measurement-based on the relation of the pixel movement speed and the depth of objects have been investigated. Also, necessary mathematics to implement the technique is derived and presented. The factors affecting the measurement precision have been studied. Analysis shows that the measurement error increases with the increase of depth. The rotational angle of the mirror between two image-takings also affects the measurement precision. Experimental results using the real camera-mirror setup are reported.

This paper presents a method for detecting skin tumors on chicken carcasses using hyperspectral images. It utilizes both fluorescence and reflectance image information in hyperspectral images. A detection system that is built on this concept can increase detection rate and reduce processing time, because the procedure for detection can be simplified. Chicken carcasses are examined first using band ratio FCM information of fluorescence image and it results in candidate regions for skin tumor. Next classifier selects the real tumor spots using PCA components information of reflectance image from the candidate regions. For the real world application, real-time processing is a key issue in implementation and the proposed method can accommodate the requirement by using a limited number of features to maintain the low computational complexity. Nevertheless, it shows favorable results and, in addition, uncovers meaningful spectral bands for detecting tumors using hyperspectral image. The method and findings can be employed in implementing customized chicken tumor detection systems.

This study develops an analytical model for the delay analysis of real-time data in the token-passing service of Foundation Fieldbus(FF). Using the analytical model, this study proposes a network design scheme of FF Two design criteria are introduced in this study; one is the average delay of real-time data, and the other is the maximum allowable delay of real-time data. The network design scheme determines the network parameters that satisfies the performance requirements given by these design criteria.

A high speed Viterbi decoder with a circularly connected 2-dimensional analog processing ceil array Is proposed. The proposed Viterbi .decoder has a 2-dimensional parallel processing structure in which an analog processing cell is placed at each node of a trellis diagram, the output column of the analog processing cells is connected to the decoding column, and thus, the output(last) column becomes a column right before the decoding(first) column. The reference input signal given at a decoding column is propagated to the whole network while Its magnitude is reduced by the amount of a error metric on each branch. The circuit-based decoding is done by adding a trigger signals of same magnitudes to disconnect the path corresponding to logic 0 (or 1) and by observing its effect at an output column (the former column of the decoding column). The proposed Viterbi decoder has advantages in that it is operated with better performance of error correction, has a shorter latency and requires no path memories. The performance of error correction with the proposed Viterbi decoder is tested via the software simulation.

In this paper, we designed a portable digital pressure algometer which not only can measure the pain level objectively and quantitatively, but also is able to do RF communication. This system consists of pressure sensor for pain measurement, analog signal analysis, digital hardware based on PIC16C73B, RF communication and display. To evaluate the performance of the developed system, we measured pressure threshold using commercial analog PA(Pressure Algometer) and the proposed system, and then evaluated the correlation and confidence. Using linear regression analysis, standard deviation of 0.1731 and R-square value of 99.3% were obtained. In conclusion, the above results showed good performance and its usability in measuring the pain clinically.
