The Netherlands' contemporary Art Furniture has drawn large attention from design and art fields all around the world because of Dutch designers' intriguing themes and experimental approaches. Its successful achievement not comes from certain policies or personalities, but the result of ceaseless internal criticisms and self examinations. After World War II, Modernism was the most common notion of furniture design for mass production in the Netherlands like other nations, but Dutch designers and critics put modernist canon up for discussion since 1960s. They have searched counter modernist design for expression of human element and warmth using art works, craft, and Postmodernism theory, etc. Throughout design debate of modernism, free design, design as art and conceptual design, now we could observe Dutch designer's unique and distinguished Art Furniture in the influential places. By analyzing the development of the Netherlands' contemporary Art Furniture in chronological sequences, we could understand them better and learn something useful to Art Furniture in South Korea.

This study purposes on continuing experimental research of furniture form creation focused on the importance and necessity for a-formal concept for designers to drift away from general acknowledgement and practice routine to design more radical forms for meeting various needs of late industrialized society, which have not been satisfied with formal and universal designs. This study covers presenting new points of view on research for designers to look for different solutions to widen their consideration in the process of furniture form development and to set up academic data base with the case studies of designers in anti-construction concept to define their experimental challenges for new design form creation, on the basis of overall research on the effects and roles of a-formal approach in the furniture design form creation.

20th century, beginning of modern, the style of art and design, separated reasonable and sensitive code. Panton (Panton chair) and C. Mollino (Arabesco Tea table).

The museum is a important place to inform the value of various antiquities and relics. The museum, founded in domestic, were increased 90% in 2013 compared to 2006, and total number of including private museums were increased more than three times over the past decade. There are installing a variety of illumination and air-conditioning system, such as the spot lighting of exhibition explanation. But the exhibition explanation should not happen to visual perception disabilities by lighting. According to ICOM (International Council of Museum), it is stipulating that the museum should not to occur glare. However, we confirmed some occurred the glare and it was lack of previous studies about prevention plan. In this study, we verified occurrence of the glare by illumination angles and visitor's eye-level. The luminance values were determined by using DSLR camera and illuminometer. As a result, when illumination angle is 90 degree, the glare did not occurred by the luminance value ratio of over 0.167 regardless of eye-level. By contrast, the angle 30 degree was appeared glare with all level. And this study was compared luminance values that obtained through experiment and surveying.

The social design, which appeared at the end of the 19th century, is getting attention along with problems in modern society. The purpose of this paper is to analyze several cases of social furniture designs, and to present its necessity and future direction. It classifies the cases of furniture, lighting and design project regarding social design into three types. First is furniture design for social minority. Second is sustainable design, and third is social design that delivers social message. The expected effects of social design are cost-efficiency, sociality, and environment-friendliness. Also, social design requires certain direction which is first; the designer should recognize the minorities in the world. Second, the designer is obliged to accomplish social mission, and last, he or she should be aware that the design creates added values.

It suggests a closet design for infants in consideration of space utilization, furniture arrangement, and goods storage by integrating a baby's closet and toy chest, which was used for storage of baby's toys and play instrument. For this, it conducted and analyzed data research on the infants' toy chests in the domestic and overseas market and based on such approach, the colors that helped development of infants' cognition and emotion were selected while suggesting familiar animal characters for infants. Without considering separate arrangement of furniture and toy chest within limited space, it allowed space utilization and provided enough storing space. Also, the attached ball casters enabled easy carry of the closet and with this function, it helps infants arrange and store goods by themselves so that making them feel a sense of accomplishment. For effective spatial utilization as well as security of its genuine storage function, the closet and toy chest were combined in this study. Thus, it is believed that development of such multifunctional furniture will suggest the direction of researches on domestic furniture development that are conducted to maximize utilization of residential space for the people living today.

Recently, the increase of single households are remarkable in Korean society due to various social and economic reasons such as aging and changes in values, and it is expected to bring many changes to social and economic structures and residential spaces. Increase of single households is a result of complex economic, cultural and social factors. It is because as the individual's financial independence increases due to elevated income and education level, the age of marriage is going up and the individualism, which values the individual's value rather than custom, is spreading. It is expected to accelerate further in connection with the changes in structure of population, such as a low birth rate and aging. As the number of single households is increasing, the development and marketing for single household products are actively growing. With the increase in consumption demand and need of growing single households, the multi-functional system furniture that can be efficiently and conveniently used in small spaces are needed, but the furniture manufactured in Korean companies are designed for regular housing and is not suitable for single households. Therefore, the aim of this study is to develop multi-functional system furniture can be freely used in the housing structure of single household and small spaces.

Mendini works architect of magazine. He is a era-transcending designer who started design in late fifties and still works actively. In his design, there are some ordinary emotions which make people easier to approch to than without having any resistance. The purpose of this research paper is to define the traits of Mendini's design work. There are four main characters in his design; post-modernism, combination of art and design, use of contemporary art and traditionary italian colors and redesign. Mendini interpret tradition in modern way. His individuality came from the tradition, and also he modernized italian tradition to it.

In this study, select the Republic of Korea mother-of-pearl lacquerware Lim chung hyu coach, I tried to find out the until the background and coach of his growth. And it was done looking for the elements of the future development of the mother-of-pearl lacquerware through the tendency of his work after the coach has been. Lim chung hyu coach is, unlike other mother-of-pearl lacquer craftsman, confirmed the affection and passion to his mother-of-pearl lacquerware as seen through the work to manufacture in his unique way. Through the mother-of-pearl lacquer-ware production processes and trends of his works of Lim chung hyu coach it increased the overall understanding of the mother-of-pearl lacquerware. The work of Lim chung hyu coach was studied analysis confirmed the superiority of the mother-of-pearl lacquer crafts that are completed through a number of steps. In recent years the industry has utilized some of the 3D printers in the manufacturing process a trend which spread also a personal desktop 3D printer priced. The 3D printer can create the 3D object by using an ink or a laser instead of the powders, and various liquid plastic material. Properties of 3D printers are liquid, solid, powder and raw materials are also classified as varied. New ideas and processes in the form of designer furniture, becoming increasingly evolved through the development of materials and technologies. Science, art and technology combine to create a new aesthetic for the complex and free binding structure is a combination of design and materials are available in craft and the structure appears not showing. 3D scanning was not simply continue to develop as the production process by a variety of tools and content transformation. Create new mathematical tables and chairs designed by the theory fit the digital age shows a coupling structure with decoration into small pieces. It has created a new craft technique in the digital age.

This study was carried out to analyze the effects on mechanical properties of deteriorated wood member by outdoor condition. The surface color, mechanical properties and structural stability of traditional wooden structures, exposed in water and UV, could be changeable. For the purpose, accelerated weathering test based on outdoor condition was carried out. The weathering time levels were composed 0, 500, 1000, 1,500 and 2,000 hours and mechanical properties were evaluated on each specimen according to weathering time level. Bending properties were decreased on weathering but recovered after 1,000 hours. Fatigue and impact strength were decreased to 1,000 hours and did not changed since then. Abrasion resistance was minimized in 1,000 hours. This results could be utilized for effectively stability management of traditional wooden structures and members.

Though the physical environment of life through technological evolution has rapidly improved, the quality of life due to a variety of undesirable environmental issues has been seriously damaging. This study has tried to suggest the positive & sustainable direction of space design which can contribute to improving the quality of human lives by reviving 'place property' which a site itself has, trying to analyze the recycling space which the sustainability has been applied to in a true sense. For this cause, we've tried to draw four 'methods of realizing place property' such as meeting a site, understanding a site, finding the identity of a site, and adding novelty to a site through advanced research. I've tried to suggest the design direction for reviving space which can relieve the artificial aspect of design with pursuing the co-existence with nature on the foundation of realizing 'place property' through case analysis selected on the basis of this, and can express the 'sustainability' through environment-friendly space structures & high efficiency of its function.

This study intends to explore a teaching philosophy of a Master, a joiner, a cabinet maker, Byeung-Soo Kim who has devoted his entire life on creating and making traditional Korean wood furniture since the elementary school. His teaching method is to make his learners skillful by learning how to make traditional Korean furniture with the traditional technique or joint handmade. They are able to create the furniture in passing through some levels such as a beginning, a middle, a high, and a special class for three years. Each level suggests that the students should study its own joints from laminating, dado, butt, dovetail, mitered, mortise-and-tenon, rabbet, tongue-and-groove and so on. The teaching method is very unique as the technique different and difficult to fine it from other education processes throughout the country.

21century design is working in order to increase the accessibility, eliminating alienation hierarchy for the use of the product. Efforts to these design approach are not intended for a small number of users. It offers the advantage of a variety of design for users of a wider range. So, it was allowed to extend the value in good design for all human beings. Traditional thought is expressed in a variety of shapes by applying meaning to another re-interpretation for the form to contemporary furniture and structure and decoration. Gyeongsang have a religious solemn feeling in the typical furniture of hall space that reflects the inner distinctive tradition thought of scholar of the Chosun Dynasty. For these reasons, in the present study, based on the modeling elements of Gyeongsang, which is based on the traditional idea of our country, there is the purpose to propose a design of agreed with table in modern lifestyle. Design concept proposed in this paper, to be applied to the design of the table is placed in the living space by re-interpreting the modeling properties which can be felt in the thin form and structure and patterns as modern image.

In this study, we received each wood plastic composites (WPC) from three manufacturers. These WPCs were evaluated regarding their physical and mechanical properties of both before and after accelerated weathering by ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. The total time of exposure of the WPCs to UV irradiation was 1800 h. The water absorption, volumetric swelling and shrinkage of WPCs did not affected by UV irradiation. Among the mechanical properties, there was no significant differences in bending strength and screw withdrawal resistance of UV treated WPCs compared with those of reference WPCs. However, surface hardness of WPCs showed decrease under UV irradiation. Stereoscopic microscopy observation revealed deterioration of the surface layer polymer in all weathered WPCs by UV. Exposure of the WPCs to UV irradiation caused decomposition and disappearance of the polymer layer. From this result, we can estimate that damage of polymer by UV led to a decrease in the surface hardness of the WPCs. The wood flours retained original shape after accelerated weathering by UV irradiation.

The purpose of this study were to design and develop the user centered desk which considered children with cebral palsy in Korea. The developing process of the desk were performed the convergence study of the University Department of the Social Welfare and the Living Furniture Design. First of all, the 2 students and their professor of the Department of Social Welfare analyzed the literature, observed the children with cebral palsy and the needs survey of the service providers of a Welfare Center for children with cebral palsy. All of the information gathered were provided for the Department of the living Furniture Design. Second, the 2 students and their professor of the Department the Living Furniture Design proceeded the design concept, mocked up the desk for the children with cebral palsy. This was the user centered desk which considered of the features of children with cebral palsy body. Based on the results, the convergence study implications were discussed.

Today, a definition of tourism is shifting from simple sightseeing to experiencing various cultures directly and/or indirectly. Along with the shift, all countries of the world dedicate their full attention on globalization project. In order to do so, they try to promote their images and cultures through eating and drinking spaces for food where the rest of the world can approach with ease. China is a country of diverse culinary culture. By analyzing eating and drinking spaces operated in four Chinese cities, this research studies how the traditional Chinese elements are expressed in modernization. With the research, it will navigate a direction as a new design way to establish modernized traditionality in the future. The research conducted an advanced research that set up and analyzed a standard frame of realizing practice for traditionality. By doing so, it sorted out and reviewed the characteristics of interior space into four styles; an indicative imitation method, a partial invoked method, a partial transformation method and a conceptual reception method. According to the outcome of an analysis, (a) the indicative imitation method that directly employed Chinese tradition was most used one, followed by (b) the partial invoked method that carried a part of traditional space, (c) the partial transformation method that simplified or transformed the tradition, and (d) the conceptual reception method that interpreted hidden minds and concepts by illustrating modern spirit over an inherent order in traditional Chinese space, in respective order.

Natural dyeing is considered to be an alternative to chemical staining in terms of harmful VOC-free and environmentally-friendly ingredient. This study was concerned with an evaluation of color performance of naturally dyed- and painted veneer for cylindrical laminated veneer lumber etc. according to the used condition in terms of existence of light and heat in drying. From the results, the color changes by the color of dyed veneer and the type of paint are likely to be affected by fading condition of light or heat. In the future, long-term outdoor exposure test needs to be additionally followed in order to evaluate durable usability of colored veneers.
