Structural larger timber have some weak points as like much longer drying time at lower MC(15%), a considerable check developing and the difficulty for the chemicals injection, so it is necessary to develop lighter structural size member for using the new Hanok, heavy timber construction, living necessaries, furniture and industrial goods. The developed skin timber can be a good raw material for those uses. Skin timber is a hollowed timber which be bored out of its considerable cross-sectional area. The intention of this study was the evaluation of compressive capacity of skin timber. Specially, skin timbers which have more than 200mm in sizes were used to analyze the compressive capacity. From the results of this study, the following conclusions have been made: 1. Though considerable inner parts were bored out, both pine skin timber and larch skin timber showed a good compressive capacity to that of non-bored solid timber. 2. According to ASTM, pine skin timber showed various failure types, but Splitting type, Brooming and end rolling type were main failure types for the larch skin timber. 3. Pine skin timber didn't show the significance between cylindrical shape and rectangular shape, but larch skin timber showed the significance between two shapes. Therefore, for the larch skin timber, cylindrical shape and rectangular shape should be used as a column uses and beam uses respectively. 4. Pine skin timber and larch skin timber didn't show the significance on the compressive capacity. There is not much difference of compressive capacity between them, so it can be possible to select on the user convenience.

This research was carried out to examine the properties of fancy cherry veneer overlaid on the PF resin bonded Meranti plywood floor, which 2.5% green tea leaf powder was applied in the UV varnishes and the adhesives for scavenging the volatile organic compounds. The results were as follows: 1. The various properties of the treated samples, such as density, moisture content, thickness swelling, bending strength(MOR), adhesion shear strength, surface abrasion, curling, cyclic delamination test with boiling water, boiling property, cold-resistance and heat resistance, acid resistance and alkali resistance, and anti-contamination property showed no significant difference between the properties of the control samples. 2.5% green tea leaf powder treated floor gave a little better results than the control for surface scratch test. 2. In case of QUV and weathering test, no difference between the treated sample and control was found. 3. The floor was discolored by adding 10% green tea leaf powder to UV coating, and the floor was also discolored to light green during by the soaking test. The color of floor was not changed up to 5% addition level.

With changing systems of wealth creation around the 21st century, crafts(traditional and industrial crafts) are affected by the trend of changes or lead the trend, that is to say, a turning point of paradigm has come. Values of crafts give the value of users, and the tradition and modern coexists in the trend of times changing from the tradition to the modern so crafts artists’ works are diversified and used in design industries. Based on a place of expression showing various beauty of crafts, identity of design is established through ‘Craft Consilience’ of intangible cultural assets, master craftsman, crafts artists, crafts industries, and crafts departments. As master craftsman and furniture designers meet together to mix master craftsman’s idea with designers’ idea, the new Korean crafts furniture is suggested.

Since the significance of the living room has been stressed as the space for family gathering, the weight of an ornamental console among the living room furniture is being increased. A console is an excellent small-sized furniture to highlight the spatial characteristics by being placed in front of the plane wall, which is left as an empty space or between doors. Therefore, this study aims to defined a console and to understand the issues raised on it by analyzing the domestic and international data that are addressed until today. Meanwhile, various consoles in the market today were analyzed through catalogues, data derived from internet, and literature sources on furniture to conduct the processes of idea sketch, rendering, design confirmation, design draft, and computer rendering (3D). As for the design concept of a console, modern design equipped with practicability and ornamental is adopted in the form of a combined console table and flower vase. In terms of economic feasibility and versatility, the design is developed to allow the console use by removing the glass pipe depending on needs and in case of using a flower vase, small flower can be decorated using a glass pipe for the ornamental effect.

Shake and gnarl in the timber market are considered as a defect of reducing the quality of timber. However, this study expects that shake and gnarl are the optimum design tools to improve aesthetics of furniture if their unique form is properly used as formative expression factors of wooden furniture. This study is conducted to suggest methods in order for consumers and designers to consider shake and gnarl as new formative factors and apply them to wooden furniture designs. The study conducts a preference survey of general people by manufacturing furniture that has or doesn't have shake and gnarl, and measures the level of aesthetics after providing furniture design majors with furniture image that reprocesses shake and gnarl in a new way. According to the findings, shake and gnarl have latent aesthetic values, which verifies that various methods can be used to improve aesthetics of wooden furniture by means of a case study. By applying hidden authentic value of the verified shake and gnarl to furniture design, various improvement methods of aesthetics will have to be actively studied.

A new paradigm for the 21st century, the Internet and ubiquitous, and mobile devices are being created by the new culture is being created. Rapidly being replaced by digital and analog, and 'Digilog' fusion concept has appeared. In addition, the development of computer cyberspace culture, art, design and structure are changing. In the field of furniture design, changing design processes and innovative design philosophy that change is now occurring. These symptoms experienced at the same time, almost every country on Earth is a phenomenon. Since the 20th century, computer network design based on the relationship between digital and cyber culture espoused by philosophers studied society and organic modernism and organic design of digital-based differences are confirmed through the case. Using digital technology, modeling case study of a furniture designer in cyber space and the creation of human capabilities and the fusion of computing power will be studied in modern furniture design.

This study intends to gather terminology as a first step for encyclopedia of furniture from four areas such as traditional Korean furniture and architecture, modern and contemporary furniture, wood science, and wood culture by each expert. Since China, Japan, America, and European countries have chronologically influenced domestic furniture culture, the furniture terms are currently used by mixed languages such as Chinese characters, Japanese, English, Russian, Korean, etc., in the furniture fields and education. Domestic furniture companies and schools have had lots of difficulties in carrying out works due to the furniture terms not unified. This paper carried out through domestic furniture fields, internet, and furniture books from the inside and outside of the country, including the references of architecture, interior, crafts, and wood science and culture in order to research the terminology, results in the confusing language use of furniture terms at the furniture companies, schools for furniture education, and wood workshops having their own furniture terms. Therefore, for unified and standard furniture terminology, the terms gathered must be reviewed and conformed through the committee composed with the relevant experts so that it will be able to help the relevant business and education carry out their work better.
