De Stijl in order to began in the Netherlands in 1917 is an art movement that becomes the theoretical background of modernism design was the foundation geometric abstraction. Steel design for that they offered a new paradigm at that time art, in various fields such as industrial design is still applied, especially works of De Stijl in the design area of urniture it became the beginning of the modern furniture. The starting point of this study is to analyze the two-dimensional representation characteristics to understand the background of the formation with the basic concepts of De Stijl. Therefore the generation of the surface to be displayed in the work of De Stijl and to analyze the divided element, and not if learn their expression characteristics. Also the line and the plane of the two-dimensional modeling properties of De Stijl, after described colors, and studied the characteristics of De Stjil writers for typical analyzes the moldability shown in their work, which based on, we try to present a new representation technique.

Increasing concerns of environment need to make change furniture field to more environmentally friendly approach, such as reuse of by-products from wooden products. As it is, the methods of recycling wood for industrial purposes have the advantage of productivity and adaptability. However, the industrial way is required a certain production facility of processing wooden by-products and has possible hygienic problems due to contaminated sources. Many designers have developed their own methods for reuse of wood in unique and artistic ways. Even so, because of confined sources, it could be not enough supply. Therefore, I developed the design methodology utilizing wooden by-products from S Design Company to relieve former ways' problems. The design suggestion took materials from a safe and abundant source. The wooden leftover pieces were connected together with epoxy clay, so previous process traces of furniture are remained as a decorative factor. Moreover, the synthesized material was able to be processed by ordinary woodworking facilities without additional installations. In doing so, console table focused on a commercial purpose and dining table for an artistic objective were successfully fabricated as final suggestions. In consideration of the proposal using wooden furniture leftovers, diverse recycling designs should be investigated for future reference.

Lacquer has a high value as a coating of typical arts and crafts in East Asia including Korea, Japan, and China and traditional representative of the gorgeous satin that is fit to the cultural conditions of each region. Lacquer is harmless to the human body and its robustness, preservatives, moth proofness, and strong heat resistance can maintain a long life. It seems that it will be able to make a significant contribution to create a variety of products if we continually study and raise the productivity and quality of the goodness of these lacquer. In this context, we reviewed the Pitae lacquer wares, which is one of the lacquer of traditional techniques that can be applied to the development of daily necessities and cultural product. Joining the goodness of harmless and environment-friendly lacquer and the characteristics of the leather that can produce a variety of physical beauty can develop household goods of tradition and modernity in harmony. It is worthwhile re-interpreting the tradition in the aspect that we can develop our culture from a modern, plastic, and artistic point of view.

With radical increase in one-person households, the consumption market in Korea has also rapidly changed. In line with this movement, customized furniture for sing lecustomershas been recently introduced. Since sleeping more than eight hours a day is needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle, a suitable bed for a comfortable sleep is an essential product for single consumers. In order to respond to this trend, a study was conducted to examine the surface materials of a bed designed for singles. A complete enumeration survey was implemented for beds manufactured by ACEBED Co., Ltd., Simmons-k, Co, Ltd,. Keumsung Bed, Hanssem Co,. Ltd., Hyundai Livart Co,. Ltd,. Emons Furniture Co,. Ltd,. and Borneo International Furniture Co., Ltd. This study helped in the proper selection of surface materials that may be used in the development of furniture for single consumers.

PEG (Polyethylene glycol) impregnation in wood reduces the occurrence of checking during kiln drying. The volumetric shrinkages of wood PEG impregnated by pressure (PEG-P) or soaking (PEG-S) methods, and oven-dried by vent (VD) or air-tight (AD) methods were measured and compared with the controls. The average oven-dry weight of PEG impregnated specimens was larger than that of the controls by 3.6 g, but was not influenced by the drying methods. The average of the total volumetric shrinkage of PEG-P-VD specimens was the least (2.3%), while that of CON-S-AD specimens was the largest (28.9%). Within a drying method the total volumetric shrinkage of the control was the largest followed by PEG-S and PEG-P specimens, which implied that residual PEG in wood restrained its shrinkage during drying.

In modern society, designers started feeling moral and social responsibility in the aspect of environment as a position of suggesting something new. Rather than creating another waste to make something innovative, the concept of Upcycling which is about adding design or utilization to the existing recyclable materials to raise their value to products or art works has started settling down. Among them, there have been various researches on the use of offcut waste to be dumped. Such use of waste can be found in Jogakbo (patchwork), one of our traditional boudoir crafts. This could be connected to the concept of the modern Upcycling in the aspect of giving new values to the wasted pieces of fabric through needlework. Therefore, this study suggested Stitch work as new Upcycling furniture by seeking for the common connections between Upcycling and traditional Jogakbo, and then reinterpreting them in the same viewpoint. It was an opportunity not only to rediscover 'the esthetics of waste' by changing the awareness of 'behavior of dumping', but also to reinterpret or reconsider the tradition. Based on this, it is expected to continuously have new attempts to use offcut waste for eco-friendly design in the future, and also to have opportunities to seek for new directions of Upcycling to rediscover new values through the revaluation of valuelessness.

The Industrial/Technological Cultural Properties are being protected, the rest facing with demolition and damages. In order to better cope with such situation, Korea has officially introduced the Registered Cultural Properties System since 2001 and began acknowledging the historical values of industrial buildings as modern cultural properties. In the Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, there are approximately 3,500 industrial buildings under the cultural asset protection and management not only in the Ruhr-region but also state-wide. Among these, this case study focuses on the Hansa Coking Plant, a large-scale Revitalization project to rehabilitate the old industrial complexes and facility buildings that have been shut down on December 15, 1992. Purpose of this study is to analyze main project plans of each facility in the Hansa Coking Plant and to bring out the main features of the plans, so that they can be utilized to find suggestions for Industrial/Technological Cultural Properties Revitalization in Korea.
